Seeing Slaking in any battle besides Single always scares me, so I directly try and take out what I anticipate to be the 'ability remover'. I blame one of my friends who abused this for my reaction. But usually they do something like Worry Seed or Gastro Acid, they don't usually swap it.

I actually got the idea from when I used to use Venomoth to take Truant away from slacking and give slacking tinted lens. That worked beautifully in double battles, especially if venomoth survived two turns. Then venomoth could give truant to the opponent.

Either way, you really broke a wall for me, I had completely forgotten about Skill Swap and other ability changing items.

I just realized an error in my strategy, Kray. I said Close combat would raise attack and defense when it's actually defense and special defense. Either way, I suppose it's still beneficial due to Gallade's already-high attack.

Yes, so far it is known that Wonder Guard and Multitype are the only abilities unable to be swapped, but I fear for some of the Dream World abilities, but I guess we'll see!

Unswappable? I was not aware that there were abilities that could not be swapped. If that is the case, then this strategy may be useless. I can't see any other purpose for spinda having it, though. The only move it learns on its own that would be of any use would be fake tears, but even then it would only work if contrary could pass to another pokemon for spinda to fake tears on. Either that or you have the other pokemon on your team screeching and fake tearing at spinda, but that seems a bit... I guess you could have another member of your team use memento on it, but again, this seems counterproductive. Hopefully contrary is, in fact, swappable. Just think if you could somehow get contrary on an infernape. Overheat and close combat would make for a murder machine. The only way I can see this working is having a pokemon swap abilities with spinda, then swap that ability to infernape.

Anyway, glad I could be of service!

    This is pure genius.
    Pure.
    Unrelenting.
    Genius.

I for some reason thought Contrary was one of those 'un-swappable' abilities, and seeing that it isn't, I'll be eager to work on this! Thank you so very much for your help in triggering what I hope to be the best team I've designed since Team Beta!

My eye immediately falls on teeter dance. While the ability "contrary" does not benefit Spinda, it would benefit another pokemon... specifically gallade. Close combat would raise gallade's attack and defense. The other partner would need to be something like Whimsicott or Serperior. Whimsicott would probably work best because of prankster to use safeguard and protect your team from confusion. So, Whimsicott would use a prioritized safeguard. Hopefully gallade and spinda both survive the opponent's attacks. After this, gallade would use skill swap to give either steadfast or justified to spinda, who would then confuse every pokemon on the opponent's team. Then, on the next turn, Whimsicott uses a prioritized Trick room (if it survived the prior turn) to make spinda and gallade (most likely) go first. Spinda could then use thrash, and Gallade could use close combat. On the next turn, whimsicott could start spreading leech seeds or use substitute--both of which would still go first due to prankster. You could also have whimsicott have taunt to completely destroy other gimmick pokemon. That's the gist of it. Safeguard would protect spinda from confusing itself.

Thank you, my good man. I shall try not to be a burden upon your generosity whilst chatting with you. Now from what it looks like, none of Spinda's stats are... necessarily good on their own, without a little augmentation, be that from item or from teammate.

So I suppose the first step in this fancypantsery would be to see what offensive moves are best suited for a Spinda, be it special, mixed, physical, or perhaps even a tad more on the unorthodox side: afflicting.

Dear visitor to my profile, I desire to reply to your inquisition:

I would be pleased to assist you in your endeavor to properly equip the often-overlooked pokemon, spinda, for battle in a manner that would provide it with adequate provisions for a sporting round of fisticuffs. Though I cannot guarantee that my suggestions will result in an all-powerful deity, I can safely wager that said strategy will, in fact, be rather unorthodox--especially in the case of a rotation battle or a triple battle. How does one wish to go about this discussion? Through the secretive means of a private IM, or the slower but more reliable means of a private message?

Good sir, I wish to ask you a question:

I was referred to you when thinking aloud with friends about ways to allow Spinda to see lovely battle time (I'm a huge fan of Spinda you see). I was pondering if we can perchance talk about a strategy? I've tried thinking about multiple different battle types it can be in (though Single/Rotation is preferred).
