*chuckles* I like how people joked about "Wotter" as its name, then it turned out to have the "wott" half in its name anyway.

Oh yes, like everyone can print the instructions. I'm guessing it was for another computer, but I typically don't see people printing instructions unless:
    1. They want a hard copy to keep for later, possibly near a disc with drivers.
    2. They have to turn the computer off at some point during the steps.

So I was downloading a printer driver today and in order to download it you have to pass through the "installation instructions" page and I couldn't help but lol when I saw the "Print page" button.

I highly agree that netbooks are extremely handy. Mine works great as a "module" computer, like a second machine to easily connect to the network to host extra drives, while being an excellent commuting machine. And it was $300! Mine's not severely underpowered, though. It's just running on 2006 technology.

The 403 is kind of confusing, though, because the 500-599 range is for server errors. 403 is for when the user doesn't have permission.

Hehe, I love getting bluescreens on computers that aren't mine. There is one exception to that: when the hard drive crashes while using it. It happened to me once, and System Restore only had one point, which was corrupted. I had to use the command prompt to backup the files to an external disk. When you're on vacation, ain't it great to "break" your aunt's computer?

What kind of dump files? There are various sizes of them. Some of them include just the base 640 KB of RAM, some include only the "active" RAM, some include the entire physical RAM, and some include all the physical RAM plus all the virtual RAM in usage.

I was at school tonight and we were working on Remote desktop connection, I edited the registry on the remote computer (that was about 1.5’ away from me) and the changes aren’t taking affect, so I decide to reboot from the remote window. I open command prompt and typed in “shutdown /r” the computer starts acting really weird through the remote window (its not supposed to reboot for 30 seconds). Anyways out of curiosity I open the start menu and the menu is transparent (it’s a Windows XP system… no Areo). I’m like WTF, but as I get the WTF look on my face explorer closes and the computer begins to shutdown. I say okay good and I go to reboot the computer I am on for good measure when I look over to the “remote” computer its at a Stop Error. .. I threw up my hands and went “whooohooo” really loudly, people ask me if I got it and I just say look, they see the blue screen and start laughing really hard, I know I did.

Which brings me to a question: you know how to read a dump file? Just looks like a corrupted text document to me.

I totally had a moment today.

Somebody accidentally tried to (not even sure how this happened) to upgrade one of the computer in class to Vista from XP with a virtual drive. Obviously this didn't work once It restarted, then the people in morning class tried to "fix" it, which only made it worse. When I got to school, the computer would boot into XP if you manually choose it under boot options otherwise it would boot loop into windows Vista setup something wouldn’t work then it would restart.

The IT Dept. head wasn’t sure what was going on cause the boot.ini file for XP was fine, I suggest that since vista was partly installed that its boot manager was probably installed, (which it was, more on this latter.) but after doing a search for the file we could not find it (bcdedit.exe). I happened to have Ubuntu 10.10 CD in my laptop cuase I had just updated Ubuntu on my machine(Dual boot 7 and Ubuntu) I suggest that perhaps we should use the a live CD and search for the file, after 30 mins of the teacher and another student looked for the file and messeing with boot.ini they let me load ubuntu. Took a good 5 mins for the live CD to load, another min for the search to finish… I found the file for them. Rebooted the computer back into XP then navigated to the file location and said “here it is.”

I kind of 1 uped the teacher and the student… which I didn’t mean too, I was just trying to be helpful. Now I’m kind of worried that they are going to peg me as a “thinks he knows it all” or something like that, but hey it worked right?

Only problem is I can't pass X11 to my phone to display the virtual manager and I don't know how to use the command line KVM manager to reboot the misbehaving VPSes. However, I did see a standard Java-based SSH client that may work on my Samsung Flight.

hey... I found something you might be instersted in as an administrator.

SSH client for Android... and it works, tested it myself. I don't know what type of phone you have but get an android, they are really cool, and you can manage your server from one if need be. I tired sudo shutdown -r now on it took a while to type out but it worked. So as long as you don't have a really long command to type out it would be great to fix your server if something came up and you weren't at a computer.

Well I better get to bed, long day ahead of me tomorrow + I willl be installing phpBB on my server this weekend. I started on a fresh install for this project of mine. Wish me luck (I'm going to need it XD)

EDIT: Oh yeah, trying IE9 beta ATM, not bad, not bad. Probabaly faster then firefox the last time I used it, and maybe as fast as Chrome. Only time will tell if it keeps up its speed, and no built in spell check yet either.

    idk.

Hey have you heard about HTML kit?

AND, I showed my teacher the backend of my server (webmin) and he was impressed. This is the same teacher that I am going to be taking over the website from. I showed him some of the features of webmin, (like shutting my server down cause there was a thunderstorm moving through the area.) The converstation moved towards UNIX and how far it has come, we talked about Windows and how it was popular (This conversation stated when I told him I installed everything through CL.) because of the ease of use. We touched briefly on Macs and how they are built on UNIX, and he said "So thats why they have a good OS." I replied "I should have recorded that", we both lol'd.

Well anyways I have a purpose for my server now, Going to make a mock school website on it to show him that I know what I am doing, or at least can press random buttons in the right order. XD
