GreenMan loves his iPhone, and it definitely does show me how handy one can be, but it makes me wonder why they decided to make it so closed and hard to access the filesystem for. Perhaps they programmed it specifically for the "dumb users" who would get confused with a hierarchal file browser?

Yeah, I'm liking the iPhone thus far... I haven't really done much with it yet, although it sure is nice to have one or two less devices in my pocket. :3

Just got a shiny new iPhone? I've been a little interested in Androids, but I frankly wouldn't bother with a new phone unless I got a data plan; otherwise, a smartphone is useless for me.

Ooh, that's old school. I think I found an interesting line in computing: computers that can use the Internet, and those that can't. As the Internet is always changing, it's lots of fun testing infinite websites with machines.

Yeah, lately I've been monkeying with a 15-year-old laptop... it's an IBM ThinkPad 385ED, with a Pentium MMX, 2.1 GB in hard disk space, and what I presume to be 48 MB of total RAM. Everything seems to work fine, except it won't let me boot into Windows. Not a difficult problem to fix, because I looked up the error code it gave me, and here, the BIOS battery had died. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to get out and buy a replacement battery. :3

Yeah, I can definitely think of some games like that, especially some that I've downloaded for my iPod Touch. I hate when AdMob ads take up a space normally reserved for game controls... >.<

I don't know if this kind of discussion is allowed on Victory Road, but once I get my iPhone, I'm probably going to jailbreak my iPod Touch, only because I want to try creating themes for iOS devices, plus I hear there's a way to control music playback with any of the external buttons (volume controls, sleep button, etc). I would never jailbreak for piracy reasons.

Yeah, it's a pretty rare piece of software. I just had a quick look at it on YouTube... it looks a little too juvenile for my taste. I guess I could stick to the versatility of the software synths and audio stuff that I already have. :3

Yeah, I haven't had much time to really enjoy my Dreamcast, no thanks to school. -_-
Speaking of Dreamcast, I was hoping to be able to use a synthesizer or chip tracker program with it, but it looks like I'm coming to a lot of dead ends... all I see are blog articles and no actual downloads. >.<

EDIT: Wait, I take that back... There's this one sequencer called "O-to-i-re," but it's a Japanese release. Still, it might be worth a shot. :3

XBMC works decently even on my 5-year-old MacBook, and it only has an Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics processor. That being said, you shouldn't have any issues with XBMC, no matter which platform you're using. :3

If you're looking for some decent media center software, I'd recommend either Plex or XBMC (formerly Xbox Media Center). I have yet to actually try Plex, since there is no Mac version as of yet. XBMC, however, is easy to use, has support for many different media formats (audio and video), and you can get all kinds of themes for it. As for hardware, I really don't know what to tell you.

Yeah, I seriously need to build myself a PC entertainment center, especially one with a powerful video card that can output video via analog composite as well as VGA and/or DVI. You know, gotta have a versatile home entertainment/gaming PC.

    ISA, huh? Now that's old-school.

It's a shame that none of my computers have PCI slots or ISA slots. Then again, that's the price I pay for owning laptops. X3

Yeah, I wish I had a computer with PCI slots to use the modem in, or I'd happily accept the offer. :3

    Seiji J. Konokama
I have seen where I could connect the Dreamcast to a PC using a standard modem, but alas, the only other thing in my house that still has a modem, is my iBook. Unless I can figure out how to emulate Windows 98 on the iBook and use a server program, there's very little hope in getting the Dreamcast connected to the internet. Of course, that's of least concern to me.

As for Windows CE on the Dreamcast, I'll have to look into it a little further.

Ooh, hope that goes well. I like the idea of modding consoles, too. I've heard a bit about installing a real copy of Windows CE on the Dreamcast.

Yep, I've got a dual-boot of 2000 and 7 on it. It seems to work quite well for its age.

Ooh, nice. I haven't really had many memories with the Dreamcast myself.

A seven-year-old laptop, huh? That's like an epic hamburger with awesome sauce. X3
Lately, I've been enjoying the Dreamcast that I scored on Thursday... I've been wanting one since my neighbor moved out a few summers ago, because he had two of them, and I secretly wanted one of them. Being the honest person that I am, I only went as far as having a closer look at the consoles, but never took anything.

Ooh, I used to have an old dot matrix printer that ran over a parallel (IEEE 1284) port. I wish I didn't get rid of it, because that thing never jammed or really had problems and was a cool retro piece of technology.

    Seiji J. Konokama
Just got an old Apple dot matrix printer working again... the print carriage evidently rusted itself frozen, but after a few squirts of WD-40, the carriage moves freely. I still have yet to get my computer to print properly using a USB to IEEE 1284 cable, but at least it works as good as it did in 1982. This was at work, btw. :3

A few other things that are missing from DS-10 include envelope control for VCO 2 pitch (essential for sync leads), tempo precision to at least one decimal place, and, like you said, some sort of MIDI interface. Other than that, I think DS-10 pretty useful for my experimental style of techno. :3

I absolutely love , much because its personality is similar to my own.

I've only played around with the Korg DS-10 synthesizer for the DS, but I must say that it is pretty fun to mess around with, and it gives some interesting sounds. Pity there was never a MIDI attachment for the DS.

The scanner on my desk in the spare bedroom (which is also where I have my classic video game consoles set up) has a weather radio band with an alert function, and I also have a crank-powered weather radio in my living room. Ah, the spirit of radio... XD

I've got a weather radio that still works, but it's annoying in that the tuning has to be precisely 160.55 MHz
  84. Seiji J. Konokama
    February 20, 2012 08:09:25 PM
    Seiji J. Konokama
Yeah, if I ever need to get a quick weather report without firing up the old Sylvania TV, I usually end up firing up the old RCA TV. XD jk
Actually, at the flick of a switch and the push of a button, the weather report is always available on my police scanner. And that's all it's really good for, since the local law enforcement probably uses digital radios.

Haha, I've seen friends have lots of pictures of solid black because of that. I've accidentally called people before.

I hope it won't be too much longer till I get an iPhone... my Samsung phone is starting to wear out, and I have to press buttons pretty firmly to get it to respond. Plus, it seems to want to take pictures while it's in my pocket. :S

I'm not too worried about my phone, as I use a laptop for anything that requires signficant usage. It's also Samsung.

Mine's a dinky Samsung camera phone, which is fine for me until I can get something much better, like an iPhone.

Do you have an LG phone? I know those sound like that.

The UNATCO theme from Deus Ex is my ringtone. It really makes me feel like I'm JC Denton. XD
Surprisingly, my phone makes MIDI's sound like they're from a Sega Genesis game, and of course, I like it like that.

Yeah, my current ringtone is a retro-style (retro like older cell phones) version of Route 2 from Pokémon BW. It's really loud and easy to hear in a crowded room.

Yeah, nowadays, it's the Verizon Song as the most commonly used ringtone.
Regardless, I agree with you 100%. That's why I usually use video game music as ringtones. XD

It's kinda funny how everyone now has annoying ringtones of the same clips of the latest hits. While they're not really bad songs, they just get annoying and repetitive after a while. Wait a minute, there was a time when every ringtone was the Nokia Tune. Hmm, tough call which is more annoying.

Just now figured out how to import MIDI into my Samsung slide phone... Took me long enough. XD
