Admittedly, there are some real languages that look even worse. Dovahzul's got, what, 35 characters + punctuation, or so? Imagine having to learn to write Chinese, which has a different picture for almost every word >.<

Unfortunately the runes aren't too quick either, especially if you don't know them by heart. Having to constantly reference it is complicating.

I should totally get a massive pad of paper and write the next day's to-do list in dragon runes while I'm on break at work just to see how many people question my sanity.

I did that with binary letters in high school a few times but it takes so long to write out a single character in binary it really wasn't worth the effort.

It sounds like a great idea! I've actually written stuff on projects in it, people stared xD

The alphabet does look fun, though. At the very least I could write notes in it and people'll think there's something wrong with me . . . that sounds like a good idea, right?

I'm also ignoring the alphabet. I've tried Memrise, it seems to work. It's pretty much just memorization though.

I'm mostly ignoring the alphabet for now, since the alphabet is just hardcore memorization and I don't like hardcore memorization. Learning the words first seems more important, since I could at least pronounce them out loud or spell them in English, and probably even most people who can speak Dovahzul can't read the letters (yet), either.

There's also a somewhat interesting course for it on Memrise, which supposedly has teaching languages down to a science.

I've been attempting to learn using that site's lessons, although I haven't joined the community. The alphabet is the most daunting part, I think.

Better than some other languages I've tried to learn . . . which isn't saying much, I'm pretty bad at languages :>

I know a few phrases and a few odd words here and there, mostly from the names of various dragons/shouts and listening to the Dragonborn song a few hundred times. "kul do od" -> "sons of snow," "Alduin, feyn do jun" -> "Alduin, bane of kings," "joor, zah, frul" -> "mortal, finite, temporary," etc.

Also I stalk the Thuum.org community from time to time, where half of the users speak Dovahzul like the mother tongue, so that's sort of helpful.

Drem yol lok :3 I'm just starting my Dovahzul lessons, don't know much yet except for the Song of the Dragonborn. How well do you know the language?
