When it comes to radio, that's the end of your Gangnam-dodging streak.

In other news, "Good Time" is on the radio. Owl City and Carly Rae = I'm melting

H.264 video glitching out when completely covered up is actually a good demonstration of desktop composition and selective rendering in action. Why draw it when it's not visible? Obviously, doesn't work in Windows Classic.

I don't believe that you've managed to dodge the Gangnam Style sensation!

Nope, didn't notice. Then again, I never look at those.

I wonder whether you've noticed how my mobile browser of choice suddenly shifted from Opera to IE in the logs.

Because faults start to become obvious?

Live action content needs at least 3 megs at 480p, though, and I'd reckon that 14 megs is just good enough for 720p video without cringe-worthy macroblocking.

I remember way back when I first used Windows Media Encoder (probably 2003). I thought anything over 1 Mbps was really good quality. Oddly, I still use 1 Mbps for comparison purposes between codecs.

You seem to be able to get away with just 1.4 Mbps for animated content, especially older content, at 480p.

Yeah, I'm not too fond of the price for Gold.

It's a "name-that-tune" type game. You have to guess either the song or artist out of a set of four choices in a chosen genre and get more points than another player. The more you play, the more genres you can choose from and more songs you can get in each genre.

It's already confirmed that it'll be there, too. Thank goodness Gold membership is useless on phones and computers because it'll never work.

Oh? Xbox Live games are given away on Windows Phone? I'm curious if they will be/are on Windows 8 too.

Never thought I'd see that day, either. I blame GreenMan for making me play SongPop.

Are we in bizarro world? Cause the new iPhone 5 for some reason is very non-competitive with regards to its screen and hardware features compared to a Windows Phone, let alone Android.

Never thought I would see the day that I start liking to play smartphone games and end up spending three hours in a go!

Granted, they were the likes of Hydro Thunder and Crimson Dragon instead of Angry Birds...

Also, not too shabby for DirectX 9 phone hardware.

Firefox doesn't support inverted outline colours because the backend, Cairo, doesn't support them without sacrificing HWA.

    *facepalm*

(This is because I've noticed that DirectX 9 hardware is perfectly capable of performing inverted outlines under Aero - must be caused by some other window manager.)

By the way, once you install Windows 8, immediately disable the Flash plug-in from desktop IE. Patches won't come until Windows 8's GA date, and evaluation versions are most certainly going to be left out.

    Dedicated hardware decoders = fun!

4 logical cores all used up for two background video conversions
Separate 1080p video plays without even choking

Funny thing, if a H.264 video that is hardware-decoded has the display hidden for long enough, but not minimized to the taskbar, when you switch back to it, it'll get super glitchy until it gets to the next keyframe.

Yeah, true. That's rather why I don't like smartphones, though. So many of its uses desire something a smartphone cannot physically have and keep its small size: a full-size keyboard.
