Funny thing how easy it is to install new content in Sims 3. Just temporary switch out of the game and wait a bit for it to be installed.

    Hmm...

At least I got her to start it, clicking and two-finger scrolling down pat, and how to open photos in the Photos folder. I also got her to open Safari 6, switch between full-screen apps.

Probably will also get her to use iTunes for music and stuff.

Things I've learned after using my P840 for a while:

    NVIDIA Optimus works as advertised.
The GeForce GT 630M is very capable at the monitor's native resolution, up to and including tessellation.

It feels a bit weird to have a lot of games run in excess of 60 FPS on settings originally used by a HD 3000.

It's funny when a high-end card from years ago is now equivalent to HTPC-friendly performance these days. What used to eat up over a hundred watts can now get by with just 33...

    Twiggy
    Sure. Why not?
I'm running Firefox 10.0.11. I wonder why I picked ESR over the stable release channel? Not wanting another Chrome-like updating? So many minor fixes for 10, and I think the next ESR is very soon-ish.

Still maybe I should try out Waterfox.

Interesting. So the P840 has more features than the P845, including a GeForce GPU in addition to HD 4000, 2MP camera, and a fingerprint reader, and screen brightness rivalling a MacBook Air, of all things?

Aaaaaand now I'm typing on the P840! Man, good thing I got this instead of the M840. I can't give up certain things, it seems... and having a Windows-centric keyboard feels just right.

The fact that the M840 doesn't have a backlit keyboard, and also doesn't have a clickpad, means that... well, I'm going to have fun working in the dark with that. :3

On the other hand, if the P840 doesn't have a 640M, it's woefully underpowered.

Hmm... I think I'll just ask you for laptop advice. Looks like the choice between an M840 and a P840 is tougher than I've thought. Inaccurate brochures are not fun!

If the P840 has a 630M instead of 640M, well, looks like I'll just get the M840... if not for the fact that I'd have to pay extra for a working regional/international warranty, which the P840 already has. (Comes with the premium, it seems.)

Either computer has CPU that is faster than my dead desktop anyway, which is not the case with my current MacBook Air. (My, perf-per-MHz has come a long way.)

I'd also like to be able to work on the bed

*finds himself having to retag several albums in the bundle*

    Missing metadata? Oh my.

    ...But wait, there's even worse!

    Unwritable tags! What the...

The problem albums seem to be Jottobots, Joypad Powerup and Kanto Symphony EP.

    ---

The problem seems to be from having a version of ID3 too new (ID3v2.4 has too many compatibility problems, using 2.3 works better). I used a batch editor to resave the tags.

Why all the non-hassle? Zune works better, plain and simple.

Second, even though Android keeps getting better at allowing developers to get the most out of the hardware, it still has not reached the performance level of Microsoft's mobile platform. You can see evidence of this by looking at the quality of the 3D titles that ran on the ancient single core WP7 devices; plenty of them matched the graphical capabilities of what was possible with the Tegra 2 processor (dual core) on the Android platform.

I like clear screen protectors because you retain display quality with them. Glare isn't much of a problem with modern high-end smartphone screens anyway, which usually have high brightness and low reflectance ratings. (Actually, my phone ranks very high, followed by the phone that went into recycling yesterday.)

Also, I never liked Google Chrome, although I did have a brief stint with it as the default browser. Then something faster came. Windows or Android, it's the same thing in my personal opinion. It's too clunky and doesn't respond well to system changes.

Sometimes, the cheapest way to buy something is to just go out and walk into a computer store.

*ends up with a Sony portable battery that charges anything that can charge off USB and two capacitive styluses*

Capacitive styluses can work surprisingly well. Just remember that they don't need to be pressed despite having a squishy tip. I've tested it in Nokia Diagnostic's Screen Test, and it seems like everything is as accurate as a capacitive screen could be - direct from the centre of the tip.

The Sony portable battery charges off USB and provides 1 USB port to power portable devices. It's a 2000 mAh battery - good for a full charge for my Lumia 900, with some residual power left to spare just in case. (Obviously, buying the device myself is way cheaper than ordering something online and having to pay for shipping.)

The "Game Genie" album combines SNES and NES-like audio. Hmm... That reminds me more of GBA games, to be honest.

Best. Music. Bundle. Ever. You know me very well, don't you? And I spent $5 instead of $1, well, just because.

I think I'm also finding myself growing well towards synth-y music, especially after that and Owl City.

P.S. What's a good genre to assign them to? Genre unspecified is a nightmare.

P.S. #2 Use Audacity's track mixing with The Wave. I like it! (It does sound like a different kind of retro, though. A certain portable comes to mind. Deliberately cranking down the sampling rate of the live track does make it sound more like it!)
