Yeah, early-game, the checks have a bigger margin of error, but it's still rather dependable. Better than discovering that your starter was a dud a long time later.

It's fun to abuse my phone's diagnostics' audio loopback function and redirect music output from the loudspeaker to the earpiece. The earpiece has MUCH better bass but clips easily.

Not bad for a sorta el cheapo monitor that isn't a Korean white-box brand! IPS monitors are like a revelation to me. And since it isn't one of these Korean white-box brands AND I bought it in store, I get three years of warranty.

So many lenses, it looks weird.

    Ever heard of MILCs?

You probably haven't noticed it yet, but real DSLRs give me back pain. Looks like it's mirrorless time for me. From what I've seen from reviews from reputable sites, the only thing I should be worried about is lens compatibility and autofocus speed. Really, i don't need a compact cause my phone does it OK, but...

I think I'll hold off and take a look at them first.

If you ever feel like trialing a modern Nokia phone, take advantage of this. I would recommend you to try out the Lumia 920 when it comes out. If not, if you're an avid photographer, consider the 808 Pureview (tends to rival DSLRs (!)), or Lumia 900 if you want a head start on Windows Phone.

Me? I sent them a request to try out some spiffy new headphones as mine's busted, I need better quality audio, and I am always wondering what I've been missing out all along.

Time to consider a sorta el cheapo Canon DSLR. So I joined my university's photography club, which turns out is sponsored by Canon. (This is also this first time I finally got to see the individual pixels of my phone in a photo!)

Image noise is not a problem with these DSLRs, even if budget-level. Hmm... (which we were given for today)

Under ideal conditions, my 900 takes 2.25 hours to charge from 0 to full. 1800 mAh battery on a 800 mA power supply. Does that sound about right?

I think I like the diagnostics app on my Nokia Lumia 900.

    Charged: 39%

    Voltage: 3.859 V
    Current (Charging) 404 mA

The proximity sensor seems to have a range of about 1.5 cm.

The capacitive touch screen produces very accurate lines that seems to originate from the centre of my finger when drawn on diagnostics.

    "NFC not supported"

...I think the app was updated.

Also, it has an impossible score in the HTML5 Test. (241 + 2)

I am not using the default browser on that one, though. So many things wrong with it. I'd rather use Opera Mini - now that runs fast AND renders properly! (It reminds me a lot of a DSi, except much faster.)

You know it's a different world when even el cheapo Nokia feature phones come with support for H.264 video playback... on an uber-low-res screen. Ohai, 144p movies@15fps

Oh wait, it actually played an MPEG-4 file at original framerate. So smooth.

    ---

Let's see, the best bet seems to be 160x128 maximum size, ~384 kbps, up to 30 fps, MPEG-4. Any higher, and it'd be useless on that screen. (Remember when feature phones didn't have enough processing power to handle MPEG-4?)

    There's a bit of a problem

Series 40 phones straddle between the line of a feature phone and a smartphone. The 110 I just bought is dirt cheap and dual-SIM and is 2G-only, but it does have stuff you'd expect from a smartphone.
