Interest Poll: Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Tournaments

This thread is for the discussion of any tournaments for games that require Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and therefore will not be available after May 20, 2014. Does anybody have any good ideas?

Please select all options in which you would be interested to compete. If there are any other games, choose Other and post with your ideas.

Question, is there any idea of a formal date/range these could take place?

Also, if we did MKW, would we do a bunch of one-on-one races or would everyone join the same race and compete for points? Or Balloon Battle or whatever?

I'll be running the MKW and MK DS tournaments. When it gets closer to the time to run them, I'll throw up a poll to see what everyone wants.

Any chance of any PC games in a competition?

This is only for Nintendo WFC games before Nintendo axes the servers.

Magmaster12 March 9, 2014 03:29:09 PM

Super Smash Bros since it's one of the few Wii games I still have.

I can't even vote for any pokemon games because all my good pokemon are in Pokebank.

Yeah, that was the primary problem I thought about when including the Pokémon games. Most folks interested probably have already transferred most of their good Pokémon forward, and it's a pain raising a fresh team in Gen V compared to all the luxuries we have now. Gen IV might be even worse, but at least you wouldn't need to level the Pokémon up after they learned their last important move.

kakashidragon March 9, 2014 05:33:34 PM

My 4th gen team will always be there. I would just feel sort of bad for others that dont there good mons on them games still. (I also probably would have an advantage than others)

True . . . the fact that I still have decently bred, EV-trained Pokémon in Black and White would definitely put me at an advantage, even if someone with a half-baked team trained in a week was twice the battler I am.

I feel more and more like the Pokémon tournaments probably won't happen . . .

Cat333Pokémon March 9, 2014 07:27:36 PM

I think the only way to make the Pokémon tournaments work is by doing something gimmicky that doesn't require having kept a team behind, constant breeding, or training to high levels. I mentioned an idea of Triple Battles with each person having a team of six freshly hatched Togepi (not bred for IVs) and only using Metronome. Of course, that would involve pure luck.

kakashidragon March 9, 2014 08:21:17 PM

To bad we couldnt use pokemon we freashly catch within the first few routes of the games

But that could be part of the fun, right?

Indeed it could.

Dragonite March 15, 2014 10:26:57 PM

Any more word on this?

(My window of time for possible MKW is March 22-30)

kakashidragon March 16, 2014 12:36:31 PM

Heck if people had Yugioh 5d's: Stardust Accelerater-World Championship 2009. We could do a tournament for that. Sadly i might be the only here on the forums that actully has this game.

As it appears Yoshi will be running a Mario Kart Wii tournament, I'm curious what ideas people have for a Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament in early- to mid-May.

That sounds really fun, actually. Time to dig out my copy of SoulSilver once again! (and quickly head to Route 10 to catch a Ditto. :P )

Cat333Pokémon April 30, 2014 05:35:14 PM

We've got just three weeks left!

Dragonite April 30, 2014 06:03:18 PM

Still pushing for Metroome Togepi.

I will clone an army of Togepi for people if that is what it will take to get this done :<

TurtwigX May 1, 2014 02:48:01 AM

We never had our Mario Kart tournament.

TurtwigX May 19, 2014 09:06:35 PM

The Wi-Fi gets turned off today. I don't recall us having a single tournament.

Dragonite May 19, 2014 09:18:08 PM

For what it's worth, I've heard people are making their own ad-hoc WFC servers. No idea how to access them, though.

Hopefully it's similar to the way people connected to their own custom servers for special Mario Kart races and the GTS exploit.

kakashidragon May 20, 2014 09:37:52 AM

Serebii says the wifi got shutdown for old games :(
So much sadness, will miss them good times over wifi with these games of 4-5th gen and such.
Plus turt is right, u guys didmt do your tournaments.

ThePokeMan May 20, 2014 02:02:07 PM

Just checked my Picross DS cart, Wi-Fi is indeed shut down. I guess that means this thread can be locked now?

Yoshi648 May 20, 2014 02:06:14 PM

Sorry guys, we were going to do tournaments but we got busy with real life stuff (being near the end of a school year doesn't help either), and if my Mario Kart discussion is anything to go from, not many were able to participate anyway (I haven't even gotten a single message asking the status of it).

Cat333Pokémon May 20, 2014 02:21:54 PM

Don't worry, though, Yoshi definitely wants to run a few Mario Kart 8 tournaments soon.
