Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow Coming to 3DS eShop in February 2016
The Generation I titles, Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow Versions, will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop on February 27, 2016! Unlike most other Virtual Console titles, these classics will support wireless trading to improve upon the original trades requiring a Game Link Cable. You'll be able to download all three titles next February to enjoy where it all started without fear of dying batteries or deteriorating cartridge contacts!

Bam, told all of you it could be done.
To bad I considering the Gen I unplayable. |
I pretty much said the same thing a few years ago: they absolutely would not release Gen I or II on the Virtual Console unless they hacked in some kind of trading between the games. And they did, so it happened. :P
Yeah, the first generation hasn't aged well. Gen II, on the other hand, is still pretty good, but the mechanics feel dated when compared to the changes that especially came in Gens III and IV. Now the batteries... |
Was in no way expecting this, but maybe I'll actually play a Gen 1 game now! (Still have not even played FRLG.)
Now maybe if they could fix the myraid of glitches the games are famous for . . . |
I've been waiting for this day a looooong time. Hopefully G/S/C and R/S/E will be announced for the eShop at some point too. If not, then that's fine, just having R/B/Y is enough to satisfy my nostalgic needs.
|
Yeah that's pretty cool which means another thing for me to put on my 3ds. Doubt they would be able to program it so you could trade between two games on the same 3DS
|
Yes time to glitch the heck out of the games ;)
|
Mm. This is fine and all, but I hope after this, Gold, Silver and Crystal are on their way, too.
Also, I'm starting to wonder if I should download at least one of these games from my other 3DS. It's not linked to any Nintendo Network account, but... |
I really want to know if this is compatible with Pokebank, probably not though.

They probably won't patch anything. As far as I know the other Virtual Console games are exact ROMs of their originals, like you can still get into the Minus World in Super Mario Bros., so I'd expect them to do the same for Pokémon.
Also it just now occurs to me that catching them all will be impossible unless they do program in some kind of multiplayer thing. Maybe they'll have a Poké Transporter-like eshop application that'll let you do Gen 1 PVP with your save data? |
They already did patch in linked trading, so they very well could have patched in battling.
How to win at Gen 1 battling: 1. Acquire Mewtwo 2. ??? 3. PROFIT! (Sadly, not an exaggeration.) |
Hmm, really? That's pretty cool, then. Maybe there's hope that they could fix the missing weakness to Ghost thing, at least on the PVP side? o-o
|
If we can battle over wifi on these games, i'll gladly battle any of you. I never battled anyone but my friend on gen 1 before.
|
I'm pretty sure that won't be happening.
|
So this begs the question
Red or Blue? |
