Adoptables question

If you're trying to get a Shiny, how do you know it's not one? Because when you're scrolling down the list and click one, you can see what it looks like. And then on page 2 where you put name and stuff, you see it too.

Quadcentruo March 7, 2012 11:17:03 AM

1. This might've been the wrong place to ask this question
2. You'll know if it is or is not a shiny after adopting the adoptable. It'll be fairly obvious if an adoptable is/isn't shiny (unless the adoptable and its shiny form have similar colors). If you are trying to get a shiny and it's not a shiny, you can release it and try again.

The shiny factor is visible on page 3 of the adoption, which is the point at which you actually adopt it. You can also see in the My Pets list, where there will be an "S" under the attributes, as well as on the pet's page, where it will state "Shiny" below the counters.

kakashidragon March 9, 2012 03:42:55 PM

So in order to get a shiny, you have to select it and release it again and keep doing that till it says its shiny?

Quadcentruo March 9, 2012 03:49:20 PM

Pretty much. The shiny encounter rate in the VRAC is much more frequent then in the games, so you don't have to release over 8000 adoptables.

kakashidragon March 9, 2012 03:50:32 PM

Cool gotta try it somtime.

kakashidragon March 13, 2012 09:47:49 PM

I have adpoted over 100 sythers and released them and still no shiny.

Cat333Pokémon March 14, 2012 12:48:22 AM

Remember the Gambler's Fallacy. It states that many gamblers believe that a game of luck is "due" after a while in a game in which every round is completely random among the same number of items with equal distributions. That, however, is not true; every round is independent of one another, meaning that you have the exact same odds every time. While your chances in VRAC are 1 in 100 when you adopt the first pet, they are still 1 in 100 when you adopt the second, third, hundredth, or thousandth.

However, while we're on the subject of Gambler's Fallacy, the initial theory is correct when playing a game with playing cards in which the cards are not shuffled back into the deck after the first hand.

If you talk to ThePokeMan, he'll tell you a story about hunting a shiny Gligar. He counts every adoptable he adopts until he gets a shiny form of that. It took him 384 adoptables to get a shiny Gligar, so remember that "1 in 100" doesn't necessarily mean there will be a shiny after 100 adopts.

Also, to check if they are shiny, when you are on "My Pets" page, if you see the letter "S" next to the adoptable, that means it is a shiny. I know some shiny Pokemon are hard to distinguish from their original form, so that "S" is a good double checker.

I got Heat after 34 tries, but after 60 tries on another Pokemon, no such luck. Is there some sorta mechanism that works against you based on # of shinies you already have?

kakashidragon March 14, 2012 01:45:40 PM

Well i finally got that shiny syther adopt. Took over 100+ times to get it.

You know I don't like remembering that particular hunt. I have that blasted thing, and that's all that counts.

No mechanism, just luck. If the site wants to troll you with bad timing, it will go ahead and troll. Trust me, I have 10 successful shiny hunts~ :faec:

Yeah, shiny hunts can take that long in VRAC. While it doesn't usually take that long for me, both my first hunt (Gallade, 173 attempts) and the aformentioned Gligar took over 100 adopts to get.

Honestly, I thought the site was trolling me with Gligar. I had gotten 2 shinies in <10 attempts, so I was pretty angry when it took almost 400 tries to get it right...

Absol March 15, 2012 09:00:11 AM

Uo to 80 tries...

Also Beldum is missing

SpikyEaredPichu96 March 15, 2012 09:20:46 AM

Some Pokemon were intentionally left out. Those will probably be in some sort of event later on.

Absol March 16, 2012 07:27:21 AM

I got something. It doesnt look different but in Attributes it says E

That means you chose to give it an everstone. You can change it by clicking the checkmark box next to it, then choosing the "Take Everstone" option from the pull-down list at the bottom of the page.

I now present to you;
VEL'S GUIDE TO SPAMMING FOR SHINIES
  1. Head to the adopts page and double-click the droppy-downy box.
  2. Type in the first letters of the Pokemon's name until you get what you're looking for.
  3. Go through the pages (don't nickname them, it wastes time) until you reach the "Successfully Adopted" page.
  4. Repeat 10 times. If there's no shinies, release them all.
  5. Repeat the entire process until SHINY GET!

Terry807 March 16, 2012 12:33:35 PM

I got my shiny Eevee after 10 or 13 tries. I'm so lucky. :3

SilverX March 16, 2012 05:58:22 PM

Look at my massive list of shinies. Rufflet came to me after 8 adopts.

Also, I should tell you something. On the page it says, 'Adoption successful', click refresh. Presto- You'll have just adopted two of the pokemon without having gone through the loong adoption process. :faec:
It's how I manage to spam for shinies so quickly~
