Pokédex 3D Pro

Pokédex 3D Pro just came out a few hours ago, and is now available for $15 on the eShop. It's about 3350 blocks or 400 MB in size, so expect a long download.

It's currently downloading for me, but I've heard that you can see it in all available languages. It also has voice acting for all Pokémon, as well as (apparently) full move lists and egg groups. Lookin' sweet from what I've heard. :D

DiamondEdge November 8, 2012 11:38:11 AM

I just downloaded it minutes ago, and I have to say, I'm very impressed with this particular version. Not only is it MUCH better detailed in terms of updating not only the Neo-Unova Dex, but the entire National Dex as well, for the 3DS.

...Seeing Floatzel in 3D never looked better. Especially his animation. :'D

I have also tested out all the other languages, but sadly, the anime voice acting is either absent or unlockable (I still need to find out if either is true, unless Cat is talking about the announcer itself.) The cries, however, are activated along with the Animations by pressing the A Button like in the previous version.

There's also quizzes that could be similar to the ones formerly given in Pokemon Stadium 2, but the first few are just "Who's That Pokemon" quizzes. Answer enough, however, and you unlock other categories.

Cat333Pokémon November 8, 2012 05:44:22 PM

Really quick random question. Any idea what the POKEMON, 45Q7, and ZR222222 challenge sets are? They seem like defaults, where the set names are probably usernames, but they have a "Delete" button. Will there be some form of creating your own challenge?

Edit: I think this page is relevant: http://www14.atwiki.jp/pokedex_3d/pages/28.html
They appear to be unlockable sets.

Magmaster12 November 8, 2012 07:13:27 PM

Just to mention must of the 3D sprites are same ones we've had since the original Pokemon Stadium.

Cat333Pokémon November 8, 2012 07:36:36 PM

Oh, heck no. These models are far cleaner than the original Stadium ones. They might have used the Stadium ones as a base, but they've certainly improved vastly.

Twiggy November 8, 2012 08:42:27 PM

Maybe a comparison screenshot would come in very handy. The polygon count is definitely too high for the 64, though.

Magmaster12 November 9, 2012 05:56:09 AM

Yes I made i mistake I meant to say model.

Pingouin7 November 9, 2012 04:42:43 PM

Not worth the money if you ask me.

Twiggy November 10, 2012 05:53:46 AM

I think I'll consider buying it next year. Not now. I'm interested in it, but I'll hold it off for now until I get my new laptop.

Are you insane? The models here are vastly superior to ANYTHING that the N64 could ever have pulled off. In fact they're a little better than the Pokémon Battle Revolution models, and about on par with the PokéPark models.

However I can't justify the price. It's Ł13.49 here, which is probably about $20 for nothing more than a spruced-up Pokédex. Other than the quizzes, models and AR viewer there's nothing here that's not on Serebii, which is also far more convenient than saving and exiting from my game to open this Pokédex.

(I will say that the anime's Pokédex-esque voice is a nice touch. Learn to pronounce Arceus though)

I will say that I'm glad I now know how to pronounce a few of the Gen V names, like Virizion.

Chatot = Cha tot and not Chaetot.
Phione = Fi o ne and Fi one

Marill is said like how they used to say it in the anime, Mer-rill, instead of PBR's Muh-rill.

I figure we can also use this thread to share our Pokemon Challenge Keywords. I found a really long one, so you better have plenty of time for all 647 questions of the keyword, "AXEW" (without quotes, of course).

EDIT: Upon further research, it's an egg group quiz. Oh, dear.

Cat333Pokémon November 13, 2012 12:38:02 PM

Is there a known keyword to identify all of them yet? I think they are all just some form of hash algorithm.

The grammar around the site seems to be very good. While it is fairly laggy (realtime simulated 3D in 2D), it appears functional too.

Hmm

It relies on old-school JavaScript-based manipulation on individual div-block basis. This does make it work in a browser as old as IE7, but it's total molasses no matter your hardware compared to 2D Canvas. (The CPU has to recalculate positions with DIVs.) You know it's inherently slow when IE10 and Chrome - JS kings - lags.

Usually downloadable apps have a good rep for app updates. I would give it at most until the end of Q1 2013. (That'd be late, but it DOES give them so much leeway, that if they can't meet it, it won't happen, ever.)

Cat333Pokémon December 21, 2012 05:42:47 PM

Those new Pokémon could be paid DLC more than anything, considering how some gaming companies have marketed their content nowadays. If we get lucky, we could get those new Pokémon for free.

Either that or they'll get their own separate app / it'll be integrated into Pokémon X and Y.

Cat333Pokémon January 22, 2013 07:13:32 PM

Hmm... That said, who's going to bet that the app will be patched to allow for in-app purchases? Or do you believe that, given the huge entry price, the new stuff will be just given away as an update?

Speaking of Pokedex 3D Pro, I binge-read a lot of entries, and now I'm halfway through Hoenn.

Edit: Huh, only 20 questions? I generated a challenge that quizzed you on all the first 151, but I forgot the code since I replaced it with Cat's. I'll just put up my next best code. :P

question about pokedex 3d on 3ds

i was woundering if the pokedex 3ds pro, is it worth it? cause i wanted to get but im not sure to get, also what does it do/include.

TurtwigX January 31, 2013 07:25:25 PM

From what I've seen, Pokedex 3D Pro is similar to the last one except for a nearly complete National Dex instead of the Unova Dex, anime voices, and Pokémon trivia minigames + downloads. There's probably more, but I never bought it (too expensive.) If you'd like to have these features plus the comfort of a full portable Pokedex, then you should get it. If you prefer to use one of those random other internet sources that go more in-depth, then you don't have to buy it. I use the internet sources, but if I got a card for my 3DS then I'd get the pro version. It reminds me of a Pokedex toy I had as a young boy...

kakashidragon January 31, 2013 07:42:44 PM

i read it on serebii about a few mins ago, looks like a handheld version of there pokedex information. im planning to get another 20 dollar card to get it. (i think its like 14.99 for it) i didnt see the free one of the non-pro one though.

Cat333Pokémon January 31, 2013 07:52:36 PM

The free version is no longer available.

I'm still debating whether or not I should go ahead and get it.. It'd be useful if I need to look something up about a Pokemon while I'm out and about, but I could also just get on my Nook and look it up on Bulbapedia.

The one fatal problem is the app cannot be run on the same system as the game itself. Even if they update it with X/Y information, they'd need to allow both the app and the game to run concurrently--or just make the in-game Pokédex more useful.
