VR Chat Program

6 Attachment(s)
NOTICE:
Victory Road no longer has an official chat.

Annoyed by using the chatroom on the forum? Tired with dead refreshing? The chat is a downloadable executable for usage on Windows 2000 and up, programmed by yours truly (Cat333Pokémon) and KingOfKYA.

Windows:
.NET Framework 2.0 and/or 3.5 is required:
3.5: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...1-508d977d32a6
Newest Versions: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netf...k/default.aspx
It may not work if you only have a newer version installed. At this time, you need 3.5 if you want to use it. 4.0 alone may not work. Some releases may work with 2.0.

Linux:
Mono and Wine are required:
http://www.mono-project.com/Download
http://www.winehq.org/download/
I can't get it to work, but you can try. Still working on the native version, though!

The Spirit of Time February 5, 2010 03:29:13 AM

That would be a perfect idea, as the chat box is lagging the forums sometimes.

Flare Soru February 5, 2010 06:27:11 AM

Sounds great...just one problem

I'm on a Mac.

Yoshi648 February 5, 2010 07:58:37 AM

Looks interesting.

Manny1250 February 5, 2010 08:22:56 AM

Nice!

GreenLiquid February 5, 2010 08:25:13 AM

This will be nice, especially when I don't want to have my browser open to see and post in the chat. Did you make the program yourself?

OMGITSJAD February 5, 2010 08:43:09 AM

Nice, It'd be as simple to use as something like *****, however may I suggest a insta log-in option, like MSN Messenger? I think the chat would be more livelier with an insta log in and just clicking the logo to start it up.
(also, a little buizel icon as the logo, and when your bar is minizied and you get new messages, the buizel starts moving and uses a very low volume version of it's call to alert you about said messages :3)

*gets neck broken by Valory for using...THAT FACE...!!!*

That's an excellent suggestion. Don't worry about Val either.

KingOfKYA can probably assert that this will work on several distributions of Linux by using Wine (a Windows emulator) correctly. I believe the same is true for Mac OS X.

Yes, I made the program myself in Visual Basic .NET 2008. (Take THAT, people who think VB is only good for programming Hello Worlds and inventory organizers. I built a chat!) I found a DLL online to help me connect with MySQL, but the rest of it, including the really annoying conversion to UNIX time and SQL commands, was all my own.

For future reference and anyone coming here from a search engine:

Convert UNIX date to standard date:
Code:

Dim timeInStd As Integer = DateAdd("s", timeInUnix + offset, DateValue("1/1/1970"))
"s" represents seconds.
inputTime is a UNIX time stamp as an integer.
offset is how many seconds offset from UTC (time zone).

Convert standard date to UNIX date:
Code:

' For now
Dim timeInUnix As Integer = Val(CDate(CDate(DateTime.UtcNow)).Subtract(CDate("Jan 1 1970 00:00:00")).TotalSeconds)

'For any date
Dim timeInUnix As Integer = Val(CDate(CDate("Mar 14 2010 08:00:00")).Subtract(CDate("Jan 1 1970 00:00:00")).TotalSeconds)

This takes the current date and subtracts the beginning of UNIX time, then finds the number of seconds in this time span.

Magmaster12 February 5, 2010 10:47:45 AM

Can't wait

Alakazamaster February 5, 2010 11:40:04 AM

Ooh la la this seems like a great idea! Can't wait for it.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Anyways...

This prospect is genius. It'd be like that Xat we had...only less spam ridden.

Buizel456 February 5, 2010 04:44:38 PM

Nice! I can't wait for it

Achievement unlocked
MAKING AWESOME CHAT PROGRAM USING VISUAL BASIC

Yoshi648 February 5, 2010 05:06:22 PM

Hopefully this will make the chat more active.

KingOfKYA February 5, 2010 11:30:01 PM

Will there be a ncruses interface.
Now how manny know what i am talking about.

Cat333Pokémon February 5, 2010 11:31:13 PM

I forsee a March release, maybe April. But if I'm lucky, it will be out later this month. The reason for this is overlooked security issues.

Wine stands for "Wine Is Not an Emulator". :P No matter what Wine is, it should work. I can't wait to see the program. :)

1. Xat is only spam ridden, unless you have a chatbox and therefore only people who visited the site where the chat box is active could chat. There is also a "Members Only" feature built into xat where you'd need to be membered to talk. *I know this cause I volunteer for xat*

2. I do look forward to this new chatting system. Less lag.

Shadow February 6, 2010 07:13:59 AM

Great idea, Cat.
I'm looking forward to it.

Precisely. We used to have a Xat chatbox. People kept spamming sounds and emotes and sounds and sounds and emotes and sounds...

On the other hand, it was a great customizible chatbox.

Yea you do have a point with the sounds. They do get annoying

Just rememer who were talking about here CAT333POKEMON LOVES EASTER EGGS i would be surprised if thee wasn't a hidden sounds in it.

As a side note he broke the game breakout. 4 Paddles and every time you hit a block a new ball appeared. So 2 4 8 etc you get the idea

Cat333Pokémon February 6, 2010 09:58:28 PM

There will be a selection of sounds in it. Right now it's your default computer ding.

evandeck February 7, 2010 01:14:50 PM

So the chat will be impossible to be used with a Wii or DSi?

No, The chat program is just an optional feature for users who aren't on a DS or Wii, the normal chatbox will stay intact, and that's how Wii or DS users can chat.

GreenLiquid February 7, 2010 01:48:18 PM

If you're particularly tech-minded, you might be able to find a way to get it to function on Wii homebrew. I don't think it would be easy, but I suppose it's possible.

Thanks. I lost The Game.
I don't really see how useful it'd be on the Wii, but it'd be cool as a DS application because I could have my DS with me while doing something else. Not that either is likely, but they're neat ideas. I can't wait for Chat333Pokémon. Yes, I just edited the post to insert my name for it.

Cat333Pokémon February 8, 2010 01:47:33 PM

Progress: login is now possible. The server now makes appropriate responses.

However, due to severe recoding, getting messages and posting messsages are not yet possible.

Cat333Pokémon February 10, 2010 02:00:38 PM

Beta 2 (first public release) is out! The link is in the first post.

Please report bugs.

You don't use your username, you use your ID number (in your case it is 397).

Magmaster12 February 10, 2010 04:40:43 PM

How do you find your ID number?

The moderator is a n00b! lulz.

Click your username and look in the address bar. You'll see with a number at the end of the equal sign. Whichever number is there is your User ID# and should be used as your login on the chat program.

James February 10, 2010 06:25:23 PM

I can't wait for this chat.

Shadow February 11, 2010 07:58:13 AM

I've noticed something: It takes some time for the chat to display what you wrote after pressing "Enter". In other words, the response is a bit slow.

Can that be fixed?

James February 11, 2010 08:26:07 AM

Yea I agree with Shadow. It's kinda slow at times.

Cat333Pokémon February 11, 2010 10:27:36 AM

The only way to fix that is by fixing the 503 errors that the site gives.

Cat333Pokémon February 12, 2010 11:30:46 AM

Okay, the chat software will have a required update soon. The 417 errors, while odd, are being caused by the Squid caching. Just use the one at the top of the forum for now.

(Serious folks, please bear with me. This stuff is not easy!)

Cat333Pokémon February 12, 2010 12:24:58 PM

REQUIRED UPDATE
Beta 3 is now out. Please download the new version because it fixes Error 417.

James February 12, 2010 12:55:31 PM

Cat can you PM me the link to downloading it. I'm gonna see if there are anymore errors.

Cat333Pokémon February 12, 2010 01:05:03 PM

The download link is, and always will be, in the first post.

Shadow February 13, 2010 08:39:46 AM

The Beta 3 link is not working for me. Why is that?

(I'll post a screenshot as soon as an image uploader website works for me, since they're not doing so now for some reason)

Cat333Pokémon February 13, 2010 07:09:07 PM

Beta 4 is out! Get it while it's hot. :D

James February 13, 2010 08:37:45 PM

So far the chat is running good except for that every now and then it will lag for a second or two and then post the message.

Shadow February 14, 2010 08:38:27 AM

Exactly the same here.

Cat333Pokémon February 14, 2010 12:26:25 PM

Yeah, it does that for me too.

But don't you agree that it's far better for it to freeze than for it to just pretend to post and not actually put it up?

zsaberslash February 14, 2010 02:18:27 PM

I'd like to see a Mr. Saturn font in the list on fonts. Well, if it's possible...
Also, liking Beta 4 so far :D

Cat333Pokémon February 14, 2010 02:35:59 PM

I might add a few other fun fonts like a Mario one.

Magmaster12 February 14, 2010 02:40:10 PM

Can you get Mario font like this?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...iobrothers.png

Yoshi648 February 14, 2010 04:06:08 PM

It may be easier just to have people add their own fonts instead of trying to add every font ever created manually.

Cat333Pokémon February 14, 2010 04:29:14 PM

I don't want to allow that because then people will start using all kinds of kooky fonts that are quite rare and custom ones that aren't installed on more than 200 computers worldwide.

*ALSO* I would really like a ban and/or kick feature.

Anyone who talks in the chat is a member of the forum. We haven't received any problems but if anyone is a troublemaker you can just deal with them on the forum directly.

Cat333Pokémon February 14, 2010 05:59:49 PM

Kick feature will be implemented, which will force the chat software to close.

James February 17, 2010 06:49:15 AM

Awesome Cat. Will the kick feature be beta 5?

Cat333Pokémon February 17, 2010 08:44:01 AM

Hmm, yes.

Magmaster12 February 17, 2010 10:53:23 AM

What about the Mario Bros text I brought up earlier?

KingOfKYA February 20, 2010 11:59:57 AM

why jut let the user (client side) pic a font so that all text comes back to them in there chosen font.

or we could get really creative and have a font package that installs

Cat333Pokémon February 20, 2010 12:03:28 PM

Nah, I like it better with the user choosing fonts for just their text. It makes it look more custom.

James February 20, 2010 07:43:14 PM

Cat, hows the kick feature coming along?

GreenLiquid February 20, 2010 07:48:43 PM

Will it be possible in future versions to choose which browser links open in? IE messes up Flash things for me.

Cat333Pokémon February 20, 2010 07:50:54 PM

Might be. Again, it's an IE frame embedded so it might be a bit of work. It's not a high priority at this point.

The program was on standstill while KingOfKYA was testing stuff. However, because he abandoned the test project, work will resume.

Why the heck are you so pent up on having a kick feature? Nobody causes trouble in the first place on the chatbox anyways, and like Yoshi said, you can just put warnings toward their profile in on the main forum. >_>

Did the quote ever occur to you, "better safe than sorry" (pun intended)

Jaredvcxz February 21, 2010 08:29:50 AM

Cat, will you make the emotes available for use in the VRC soon?

James February 21, 2010 09:56:50 AM

ooh Emotes. Will they be like the ones on the site?

Cat333Pokémon February 21, 2010 01:16:20 PM

Hopefully, yes. KYA is currently testing some new stuff out, so it may be on hold for a couple more days.

In the meantime, I'll be working on the Pokédex.

Buizel456 March 13, 2010 08:40:20 PM

Can I suggest something 2 things to be added? If so...
1.Maybe a drop down menu that may include things like (View Profile, Private Message)
2. As for the Private Message thing, maybe like a tab system on the top of the program? (That of course is used for Private Messaging, or maybe other stuff)

2. Well then, nevermind

I HAVE NEW IDEAS

3.When you get the Emotes working, maybe there could be like a list of emotes on the side of the program? (Well like, you click on the side and then a list of emotes show up Like-

:D  :-o etc.
4.Copyright notice on the bottom of the program

Cat333Pokémon March 13, 2010 09:48:46 PM

3 is very possible and a good idea.
4 might be better on the Help menu.

James March 14, 2010 05:42:59 AM

Beta 5 must be awesome.

The wait it because there were two things before it, now only one: [formerly] the server move and the Pokédex.

KingOfKYA March 20, 2010 01:03:30 AM

Were almost ready:)

The first Release Candidate will be out soon and if no bugs are found it becomes ver 1.0.

It was almost a total rewrite so its taken a while.

James March 22, 2010 05:04:40 PM

I can't wait :D

Oh look KYA gave a link to Beta 6 that isn't a .zip or .exe and the thread title wasn't changed. This won't be a Rick Roll, nope, not from KYA.

Beta 6 will have rooms, so tournaments won't be a complete mess.

GreenLiquid March 28, 2010 03:37:06 PM

Is it still going to be made version 1.0, or will it still just be Beta 6?

Cat333Pokémon March 28, 2010 03:39:37 PM

The first version will be as soon as we have enough features implemented for the program to be used well enough.

randoguy101 March 28, 2010 05:58:20 PM

Does Beta 6 show the layout people have in the forum chat? Because Mag's and KYA's aren't showing on Beta 4 for me.
EDIT: Disregard this, GL answered my question.

Then we should have had 1.0 at beta 4...

piexing March 29, 2010 12:46:25 PM

All Beta 6 gives me is the music video for "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley! D:

Cat333Pokémon March 29, 2010 02:12:43 PM

Well, the Beta 6 links are a joke at the moment.

PokeRemixStudio March 29, 2010 03:20:48 PM

I totally fell for that.

randoguy101 March 30, 2010 12:32:00 PM

PROTIP: Don't use size tags :/

piexing March 30, 2010 02:15:44 PM

Thanks, for the tip. I need to stop abusing the size tag. appreciates it. o3o

Cat333Pokémon March 30, 2010 02:29:32 PM

ATTENTION
Due to illegal filesharing from beta testers without my permission, Beta 6 is CANCELLED. Now we will be waiting for Beta 7.

Thank you, Pikaluv1 ("Jawsh") and zsaberslash.

OMGITSJAD was only joking and didn't actually send it.

Pikaluv1 March 30, 2010 02:32:30 PM

Sorry, I thought we can share it now, I fail at English >.>

Jaredvcxz March 30, 2010 02:41:09 PM

Cat, I'm sorry if I offend you, but as of now I don't care. I have no future here to look forward to other than how I am now.

Here it goes.

You're being immature. So what if 3 other users went on the program? What gives you the right to publicly humiliate them like this?

I only have a basic understanding of programming and servers, but I do know that there's barely any way that this could have changed the results for the worst, if that's what you're peeved about.

I also know that Josh, Zsaber and I deeply regret what we did. Isn't that enough for you? The damage (Whatever there is of it) has already been done, and it can be fixed.

Furthermore, there is fault on your part. With my 5 minute experience with the program, I can see that it should be stable enough for release(Correct me if I'm wrong!). You've also been teasing us with stupid prank links disguised as Beta 6 downloads. How can you blame us for growing impatient?

I've said all I can for now. Ban me if you will, I don't care anymore. This is just getting rediculous even to me.

Cat333Pokémon March 30, 2010 02:52:42 PM

Pikaluv1 (Josh) agreed not to distribute the program:

Cat333Pokémon (Floatzel) / 猫333ポケモン (フローゼル) says:
Just don't distribute it, please.

3/29/2010 6:46:15 PM
Joshua Duh says:
Ok
Zsaber aided in the distribution, but he was not briefed on the details. I don't really hold him as acountable as Josh.

The program is significantly far from release. The rooms can be posted in, but you cannot see what you're doing. Also, the moderation menu doesn't work, and there are still bugs riddled all over the place.

As for the RickRoll links and stuff, that was mostly KYA having fun. I did participate a little, but it was all harmless.

It doesn't matter anymore though. I'm just annoyed that people went behind my back. Besides, Beta 7 has a whitelist and calls out if anyone tries to share it.

James March 30, 2010 05:06:33 PM

Bravo to the ones who can't interpret ENGLISH. The rick rolls were actually kinda funny. "I have been Gaga'ed"

LiteTheIronMan April 1, 2010 06:56:56 PM

... Uh...

Tch, how many times has Josh's fail grammar/spelling/etc. gotten him into such shenanigans?

Anyways, the progress with the chat program is coming along great, considering that B4 was out for a while before B6 was in testing/illegal distribution. And now B7 is on its way, too.

Cat333Pokémon April 1, 2010 07:37:54 PM

Due to numerous severe security risks encountered with various versions of Beta 7, the next release will be Beta 8. When that occurs, Betas 6 and 7 will become inoperable to patch these holes. When RC 9 is out, all beta versions will be disabled.

6.0-7.2 bugs:
Anyone can change topic

7.2 bugs:
Anyone can kick anyone using Beta 6 or 7.

I will not reveal the worst bug until 8 is out.

James April 2, 2010 09:00:48 PM

Anyone can kick anyone? o.O. eh i'm not worried. I have INFRACTION AND BAN POWAH.
