Competitive Battling Sub-Board?

I've decided to bring up the idea of having a Competitive Battling sub board. In the past week or two, we've been having a lot of new members who are competitive battlers or those who just love to battle and get better.

If this new sub board were to be made, here are some thread ideas which would appear:
-A PoTW thread (Pokemon of the Week)
-An RMT thread (Rate my Team)
-EV Training Guide and Support thread
-Breeding Guide thread

More thread ideas will be included later, but I would like to know who would want to see the possibility of a Competitive Battling sub board in the future.

I will be including a poll at the top of this thread, so please don't forget to vote yes or no.
**Be sure to post the reason why you said yes or no.**

I'm one of the new members you are talking about. Of course I'm for it. It's nice to talk competitive with people, always learning and helping others...

JDxImpetus November 19, 2012 08:58:44 PM

Yes this also benefits myself as I need to better grasp the concept of EV training and it would be nice of a Rate my team

Wobbachomp November 19, 2012 09:07:40 PM

Yes!
I don't really have any real reasons, but I love competitive battling and it would be nice to talk about it a bit more soo...

PHANTOMxTRAINER November 19, 2012 10:05:18 PM

I am definitely for it and would love to continue PotW with you, Reuniclus

The Spirit of Time November 20, 2012 02:40:42 AM

I would say yes, since that would help members to improve while they challenge the Gym League. However, there is one issue that I guarantee will pop out once this is discussed in the Staff Board; is there commitment towards that board?

The PoTW and EV Guide need a lot of work, so who is ready to participate in these? Another issue is how to keep it active; one of the ways is to get newer members to the boards, so are you capable of that?

My questions aren't directed to Reuniclus only, but to all of you who want this board.

PHANTOMxTRAINER November 20, 2012 02:50:59 AM

I remember talk of Reuniclus wanting to male the EV training guide. Me and Reuniclus had a good thing going last time with the PotW, but then I got a bit lazy. But if its going to be a (partially) big part of the forums, ill stay active on it

TurtwigX November 20, 2012 03:29:17 AM

I'd enjoy having one. I like all the ideas that were listed, and I'm sure it'd be that one part of the forums that I visit more than others. And I'm pretty good at EV Training, I might be able to supply to the guide for that. Breeding... well, I know some tricks, but I don't really like it.

PHANTOMxTRAINER November 20, 2012 03:31:18 AM

Oh by RMT thread, do you mean section?

Trainer_Kylce November 20, 2012 09:03:38 AM

I'd be willing to help with the PotW and the EV training.
And as for breeding, I can help with that also.

Yeah, I think I can put in the time and effort.

MaNiAc November 20, 2012 09:20:50 AM

I'm all for it! It would be a great addition to the site, especially for people warming up to competitive battling!

Terry807 November 20, 2012 10:30:04 AM

I say its a great idea!

RotomGuy November 20, 2012 11:01:20 AM

I support fully!

teamplasma November 20, 2012 01:02:02 PM

Finally! Yes, I support this, and so does 100% of who voted so far.

ThePokeMan November 20, 2012 01:33:10 PM

I support this 100%. I've been thinking we've needed something more than an RMT section for a while, but never really put that much effort into organizing those thoughts. This would be a great opportunity to be able to share how we structure our teams (I know a lot of people use Smogon as a base template, but I never found it before starting, so my teams are very unpredictable and quirky). Also, a place to put guides on competitive training and possibly basic strategy might be able to convert some people to semi-competitive or competitive, and grow the appeal for the site more. The only possible downside would be the crowds a dedicated competitive section could bring in, but we could cross that bridge if/when we come to it.

PHANTOMxTRAINER November 20, 2012 02:48:13 PM

Yeah, I was thinking maybe we can have guides to using different strategies too! Like for example: "Guide to Baton Pass Teams", "Guide to Weather Teams", "Guide to Trick Room Teams" etc. Anybody with it?

Trainer_Kylce November 20, 2012 02:48:55 PM

You know I am.

Quadcentruo November 21, 2012 07:36:17 AM

I'm going to be the odd one out and say that the sub-board really isn't necessary. While competitive battling is a large part of the community here, it's not large enough to keep a sub-board standing and have it see a lot of attention. Most of the threads that could be in the sub-board could simply be threads in Pokémon General because after the thread has been made and the intro post has stated what it set out to be, let's say the Egg Guide thread, it wouldn't see a lot of new posts relevant to being a guide to breeding. The posts that it will see will be people asking questions surrounding breeding, rather than helping the guide (that's mainly what happened with the old EV and IV Guide).

So if the Board is made, it will see plenty of activity within the first month or two, but after everyone makes a guide thread or RMT post, the board will not see a lot of activity afterwards. It would go down the same path that the old TCG board did only because nobody would have anything new to add after a few months.

The Spirit of Time November 21, 2012 07:58:16 AM

I have a proposal, which might work, but I still need to discuss it with Aura.

We can have open certain threads in the Gym League board, dedicated to competitive battling. These threads can include: a sticky thread where people can post their teams to be rated; a sticky threads where people can ask for tips regarding EV training, IV breeding and any other competitive-related topic; a sticky thread for PoTW. The list can include more of what you think is suitable.

It is worth mentioning though, that Aura and I are quite busy, so we can create such threads, but we prefer to delegate monitoring them to few of you guys who are interested.

kakashidragon November 24, 2012 10:35:10 AM

i support it !

Cat333Pokémon November 24, 2012 11:43:24 AM

Alright, looks like I'll need to restore the board soon, then, unless there are any other strong opinions.

Twiggy November 25, 2012 09:31:24 AM

I've always wondered why a competitive battling board didn't exist or is defunct in Victory Road, given how almost every other forum has at least a subsection for it. This might just pull in interested players and draw in new users for the forums, no?

Even though I'm not interested in it for the most part, I would be happy to see it reinstated.

Cat333Pokémon November 25, 2012 10:33:33 AM

There was this board before, but nobody ever really seemed to use it besides clans.

The Spirit of Time November 26, 2012 06:03:24 AM

That's why I gave you my idea of a solution in between. I haven't heard any remarks about it though.

Cat333Pokémon November 27, 2012 09:00:24 PM

Any more opinions on this?

DashArmy November 28, 2012 12:25:11 PM

For some sticky suggestions in the new board you could include links to guide for like EV training, and RNG. And also, the VGC Modified Format was updated recently to include the rules for the Spring '13 regionals (over at Nugget Bridge) if it hasn't already hit the official site.

PureAurorae November 28, 2012 01:34:40 PM

I think it would be a great addition because newblets (like me) who want to get into competitive battling could use this place to learn :D

The Spirit of Time November 28, 2012 09:39:15 PM

So would you people prefer a sub-board on its own, or an extension to the Gym League?

Trainer_Kylce November 29, 2012 09:39:56 AM

Extension to the Gym League sounds like a good idea.

PureAurorae November 29, 2012 09:59:05 AM

I dont really mind where it goes to be honest but an extension to the gym league wouldnt be bad.

TurtwigX November 29, 2012 11:45:32 AM

As I've been reading I haven't posted since I didn't even know myself what I wanted... but I think I've finally decided on extension to the gym league. It sounds more neat and organized.
