BronyCon: The Documentary

It seems that the John de Lancie (voice of Discord) has teamed with Michael Brockhoff in the production of a documentary of the BronyCon (an MLP convention). As of now, the Kickstarter campaign has raised 25% of the required $60,000.

Check out the campaign here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...he-documentary

Yours truly has contributed $10 $15 $30 to the project.

Quote:

In the summer of 2012 a rapidly growing adult fanbase will gather to celebrate the TV show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic".

This feature length documentary will follow several individual journeys that converge at the convention. We'll find out who the fans are and what is driving this phenomenon.

What will the funds be used for? The short answer is quality. This program will be shot with broadcast quality equipment and crewed by professional camera operators, sound mixers and editors who do this for a living.

Thank you for your support! Please help spread the word to make this project possible.
As of this edit, with 9 days to go and counting, the community has currently raised $173,866 out of $60,000 $100,000 $200,000 requested.

*also donates $10*

This should be awesome, give something to show the nay-sayers (or neigh-sayers :p) to show we aren't just insane people who like "a show for little girls"

Thought I'd share this pretty amusing thought with you guys

Cat333Pokémon May 14, 2012 10:29:22 PM

$20,000! Wow, this is definitely gonna hit $60k. A better question than asking if it will would be: how much will this project make? $100k? $200k?

Yoshi648 May 15, 2012 03:29:55 PM

..... Wow, someone just donated $10,000! At the time of this post, the current total is very close to 40,000. 2/3 of the way there not even in two full days: Rainbow Dash is proud!

TurtwigX May 15, 2012 07:18:22 PM

The number's going up fast! I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit 60K by the end of tomorrow. It might even go over!
And if not tomorrow, I can bet it'll be there by Friday.

Cat333Pokémon May 16, 2012 02:04:19 AM

$47,472

At this rate, it's gonna be a half million when it's over. Of course, less people will feel inclined to donate as the number goes up, but I definitely think it can reach a quarter million.

Yoshi648 May 16, 2012 08:18:56 PM

Thanks to a nice donation of $5000, we have officially made it to the $60,000 mark! Not even a full three days and the goal was already met, amazing how much the brony community can come together for projects such as this. With still 24 days to go, one wonders how far this will reach.

DashArmy May 19, 2012 04:34:13 AM

Micheal has talked with the $10k backer. Apparently, the pledge is very much real. It's too bad he wishes to remain anonymous, though if he is included as producer in credits he won't be for long.

I would laugh so hard if it was Gabe Newell or Notch :P

TurtwigX May 19, 2012 06:42:01 PM

Already reached 71K, and we're still so many days from our "Goal." I wonder what they'll do with all the extra money.

Cat333Pokémon May 20, 2012 11:53:49 AM

They already answered that:

We can't believe we're already talking about this, but you are probably wondering what happens if we exceed our goal. We've got some ideas of how to put the funds to good use.

* We want to add additional cameras to get better coverage of the BronyCon convention itself. Ideally we want several camera teams rolling on the convention action and a camera team pulling people into a private room to interview them away from the chaos.

* We want to add extra shoot days to show Bronies at home, away from the convention.

* We want to add extra shoot days to interview more of the people who work and act on MLP.

* We want to add extra shoot days to include international fans and conventions.

* We'll be able to pay the fees to enter the finished program into film festivals.

Many people have been asking if the final program will be available for sale on DVD or broadcast on television. The short answer is that while ultimately we expect a wide release to the general public, for now we are concentrating on producing the best program possible. Once finished, our priority will be to get the program sent out to the people who supported the project. There will be a public release, but it will happen later in the process.

Again, thank you and please keep spreading the word and we'll do our part to try to make this project exceed your expectations.

Best,

Mike, John & Laurent

I myself have been planning to go to this bronycon. :> I am quite myself excited myself for this event. I will be wearing either a Rainbow dash or my very own pony, Carmel Colors!

TurtwigX May 20, 2012 02:15:39 PM

That sounds great. I still wish I could at least contribute some of my pocket change lying around. I might even plan to go to Bronycon, but considering my "Secret brony(FAN. Not brony)" status, I might not be able to get a ride.

Cat333Pokémon May 22, 2012 09:15:09 PM

Ooh, there's a new goal to make it 20% cooler: $100,000.

They now have outlined more specific goals for folks they plan to interview as well. Man, I kinda wish I could go to this convention.

Total funded: $75,207 + $257.67 PayPal.

Cat333Pokémon May 27, 2012 05:55:27 PM

Yet another new goal! $200,000 this time, but there's a bonus now: Tara Strong and Lauren Faust will be executive producers for the documentary, and there are new rewards.

Current total: $91,567 (excluding PayPal donations).

Cat333Pokémon May 28, 2012 08:16:32 PM

Woah! It jumped by $30,000 overnight, to $122,622!

Edit: Raised my pledge to $30!

DashArmy May 31, 2012 08:56:23 PM

With 8 days left, it jumped to $173,866 $183,866 because someone JUST apparently donated 10k.

Five bucks says we're gonna hit 200k. Why don't I have 30$ right now?

Yoshi648 June 8, 2012 09:18:35 PM

With 37 hours remaining, we are currently at $272,916 (not including PayPal, which as of two days ago was at $18k). I'm willing to bet this will be at $300k by the time it is done.

Yoshi648 June 10, 2012 12:44:23 PM

Double-posting because update.

Well it ended. Total (before fees and with PayPal payments): $348,164. That's 5.8X the original goal. Good job everypony!

Cat333Pokémon June 10, 2012 01:03:44 PM

Jeez, that's $100k more than I second-chance predicted at $250k. (My original was around $150k.)

Anyway, six people donated $10,000, and 27 more donated at least $1,000. I wish I had that kind of money to throw around.

Dear Princess Celestia,

What an amazing group of people Bronies and those who support Bronies are!

Twenty-four days ago we announced our dream of producing a documentary about the phenomenon of “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” and its dedicated fans who live its values in their daily lives. Well, not only have thousands of members of the Brony Community and other members of the public come forward to encourage us, enough of them have shown their generosity that we can make an even better film than we ever imagined! They also helped the project become the 2nd most funded film of all time on Kickstarter.

Thank you for your inspiration and the inspiration we have received, and will continue to receive, from people everywhere.

Your faithful students,

Tara, Lauren, John, Mike, Laurent & the rest of the crew.
Looks like Discord's goin' global.

TurtwigX June 10, 2012 11:00:19 PM

2nd most funded of all time? Wow, nice job! I can't wait to see the outcome of this marvel.

Cat333Pokémon July 7, 2012 07:08:11 PM

It seems they have captured enough footage and have enough money leftover that they are going to be working on a second documentary titled Bronies.

Also, the digital download and Blu-rays are available for sale at the same cost as before:

TurtwigX July 7, 2012 10:47:16 PM

A SECOND one? No way no waaaay! The brony community is simply stunning. And now that the prices are here, I have to SOMEHOW get a PayPal account to pay for my copy. That is, if I have any money left over from Otakon.
