JULY - Victory Road's Pokémon Video Game Championship! RULES, DISCUSSION, SIGN-UP

Hey everyone, it's that time of year again. The Pokémon VGCs are (normally) going on this time of year, and I take it upon myself to hold one here. Since there are already set rules for the tournament, there's really no need to discuss what needs to be set in stone. So, this thread will not only be to introduce and discuss, but it will also be to sign up for it as well. This tournament takes place one month before the standard one in August, so this could be a good chance to see how your Pokémon work. Keep in mind though that this is doubles, and there's a chance that this will work a bit differently than August, which is singles.

The rules are as follows:

MAIN RULES:

Battles are conducted in a 4v4 manner double Flat Battle manner. This means that Pokémon will battle at level 50. If they are higher than level 50, they will be scaled down to level 50 BUT Pokémon lower than level 50 WILL NOT be scaled up. You may bring in a team of 6 Pokémon. On battle initiation, you will be given a glimpse of your opponent's team. You can then rearrange and choose to your liking before starting the battle. Keep it brief.

Pokémon:
The following are restrictions on teams:
  • Battle Tower Pokémon: only Pokémon that can be used in battle facilities such as the Battle Tower and Battle Subway may be used.
  • A player's team cannot contain two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number.
  • Each Pokémon on a player's team can hold an item, though no two Pokémon may hold the same item.
  • A player's team cannot contain two Pokémon with the same nickname.
  • A player's team cannot contain a Pokémon nicknamed with the name of another Pokémon.
Moves:
You may only use moves that have been learned through one of the following ways:
  • By leveling up
  • By TM or HM
  • As an Egg move
  • From a character in the game
  • Already learned by a Pokémon at an official Pokémon event or promotion
  • You may not use the moves "Sky Drop" or "Dark Void"
External Devices:
Players should only have Pokémon that they have raised themselves and items that they have received through normal game play. It is always the player’s responsibility to have legal Pokémon and items during the competition. That means no cheating guys. If a player suspects something of their opponent, they will both be subjected to check. If you don't comply, you will lose that match.
Match Resolution:
A player wins by knocking out his or her opponent's final Pokémon
  • If the player's final Pokémon used Selfdestruct, Explosion, Destiny Bond, or Final Gambit, and both players' final Pokémon are knocked out as a result, that player loses that game.
  • If a player's final Pokémon used Double-Edge, Volt Tackle, Flare Blitz, Take Down, Submission, Brave Bird, Wood Hammer, Head Smash, Struggle, or Wild Charge, or was holding Life Orb, and both players' final Pokémon are knocked out as a result, that player wins that game.
  • If both players' final Pokémon is knocked out by a weather condition, such as Hail or Sandstorm, the player whose Pokémon is knocked out last wins the game.
  • If a Pokémon's Ability or held item, such as Rough Skin, Aftermath, Liquid Ooze, Iron Barbs, or Rocky Helmet, results in each player's final Pokémon being knocked out, the player with the Ability or held item will win the game.
A player who hits run will count as the loser of that game, whether selected intentionally or not.

That about covers it, typed pretty much word for word from the official rules. I don't need "maybe"s for the sign ups, so if you post something along the lines of "I might be able to, but I'm not sure" without posting something of importance to the thread, IT WILL BE DELETED. People who have signed up are as follows.

Seeing as I'm clueless to just about everything related to VGC, how many Pokemon will be in this match? 4v4?

Also, sign me up.

Ditto616 May 1, 2012 02:06:25 PM

In my haste to write this up, I forgot to put in how it's played, silly me. That's been updated in the rules now.

PHANTOMxTRAINER May 1, 2012 02:26:04 PM

If it's a month before august, IM IN!

Reuniclus May 2, 2012 02:30:18 PM

well, this does seem interesting, so I'll join.

PHANTOMxTRAINER May 4, 2012 03:52:39 AM

Does this mean Drizzle+Swift Swim is okay and other stuff?

Ditto616 May 4, 2012 06:32:11 AM

Unless I've actually forgotten one, all the rules are mentioned. This stuff isn't run by Smogon or any fansite, it's normally hosted by Pokémon Company approved groups. Pokémon Company also makes the rules.

DashArmy May 4, 2012 01:00:44 PM

I'd like to enter.

Terry807 May 6, 2012 07:42:35 AM

Question involving the rules: It says we can bring a team of 6 in, but are we required to do so? And if we do bring a team of 6 in, but it's 4v4, what happens to the other two Pokémon in the battle?

The other two are just not used. I don't think you HAVE to do it, but it woudn't be a bad idea to do so. You know, just to psych out your opponent with the order and selection of your pokemon! ^_^

You just don't use the other 2 for the battle. Think of it as being like PBR random wifi Doubles battles; you have a team of 6 pokemon, but you only choose 4 to fight with. :p

There will be a check-in thread the day of the tournament.

And that would be 3pm.

kakashidragon July 18, 2012 01:26:22 PM

So how many rounds will we be doing? Is the whole tournament in that one day or will it be going on to the next day?

Mikey6505 July 18, 2012 02:18:42 PM

Im in this for the tournament!! and we will go to a certain thread or back to this on

IDischarge July 18, 2012 04:08:51 PM

Can we get a specific date for this? Cause I will be out from the 26-29th to Colorado.

The number of rounds will be determined by the number of participants. It should only need to span in one day, confined to an hour or two. I'm also going to cut off entries once we get one more person, however, I will allow more sign-ups for alternates in case there are drop outs or no shows.

Quadcentruo July 26, 2012 04:01:30 PM

Unfortunately, I will have to drop out of this competition.

Ditto616 July 27, 2012 07:55:01 PM
