Non-existent user (spam?)

I was recently PM'd by a user named "Eternity". The thing was, when I tried to respond, an error came up, saying that the user does not exist.

Here's the message I got:

Quote:

Hey,
I'm new here, how's it going?

I also got this, it very mysterious...

OMGITSJAD May 12, 2010 11:27:23 AM

Best not to mess with it, just delete the message & move on. I bet it sent a multi message to a few members before it got banned or something.

Yoshi648 May 12, 2010 12:14:19 PM

Yeah, we have been having A LOT of spam accounts opening within the past few weeks, so if you get something like that just delete it and move along.

Buizel456 May 12, 2010 01:26:22 PM

I got that too, I get it all the time.

Best thing is just to delete the contact/message (And block, if it's a contact, because they'll just keep resending) and just move on

Luxray13579 May 12, 2010 01:37:42 PM

Oh that is very weird. I've never gotten anything like that.

Azu May 12, 2010 02:39:47 PM

I also received this. Tsk. Spammers are quite annoying. Well, the quote was certainly interesting.

In a separate note, is it possible to report users that do this (in the future)? Or do they generally get closed by the mods (like this one) pretty quick? ;P

Yoshi648 May 12, 2010 02:42:18 PM

They get deleted pretty quick, I've been watching the new members who register and see if the are spammers (they usually make it very obvious).

UltimaRaichu May 12, 2010 02:53:39 PM

Weird, i gotten the same thing.

If the user doesn't exist, that's because we deleted the account after the PM was sent.

That explains a lot.

Nightshade Darkrai May 12, 2010 06:28:21 PM

Indeed. I had no idea who this was, so I replied saying so but got an error message. Glad to know it means nothing.

Shiny May 12, 2010 06:51:00 PM

I got that message but when I replied it was like a normal pm and there was no error.

I recommend you guys never open messages in which you have absolutely no clue who the person is. The person might put a virus in it or something.DX Happened to me once, but I got it killed.
Other than that, nothing happening with me atm.

Dorei_Uchiha36 May 13, 2010 12:28:21 PM

I got a message from him to and I deleted it.
The message said, I am a Spamer, delete this message.
Why would he tell me that he is a spamer?

Cat modified the database with all the PM messages. He searched for all the PM messages sent from a spammer and replaced the text with that so people would know that it was previously a spam message and to just delete it.

Oh ok! That makes sense now.
