[SPOILER] CoroCoro Magazine Reveals New Pokémon and Mega Evolutions

5 Attachment(s)
CoroCoro revealed new info on X and Y today including not only new Pokémon, but also a new mechanic called Mega Evolutions.

Attachment 5220
First off, 3 new Pokémon were revealed; they are Skiddo, Dedenne, and Bunnelby.
Skiddo is the pre-evolution of Gogoat and is a pure Grass type.
Dedenne is the Antanna Pokémon who is an Electric/Fairy type with either Pickup or Cheek Pouch for an ability. It also has the move Nuzzle, which will do damage while paralyzing the opponent.
Bunnelby is the rabbit-like Normal type Pokémon that can have either Pickup or Cheek Pouch for an ability.

Cheek Pouch is an ability that takes effect when the user eats a Berry during battle, it will not only get the effect from the Berry, but the Pokémon will also be able to regain HP in addition.

Attachment 5221
What's more interesting is that there are now Mega Forms, but the process is called Mega Evolution. The following Mega Pokémon were revealed: MegaBlaziken, MegaAbsol, MegaMawile, MegaMewtwo, MegaLucario and MegaAmpharos. Mega Pokémon, from what can be seen so far, have different abilities compared to their normal forms.

MegaMewtwo has Insomnia for an ability.
MegaAmpharos is an Electric/Dragon type and has Mold Breaker for an ability.

Attachment 5222
MegaBlaziken has Speed Boost for an ability.
MegaLucario has Adaptability for an ability.
MegaAbsol has Magic Bounce for an ability.

Attachment 5223
MegaMawile along with normal Mawile are both confirmed to be Steel/Fairy types. MegaMawile however, has Huge Power for an ability.

Attachment 5224
Lastly, Korrina was revealed to be a gym leader. In her gym, you'll need to navigate a puzzle while wearing roller skates. She is also an expert when it comes to understanding Mega Evolutions.

Update: English trailer

randoguy101 August 8, 2013 12:23:29 PM

Poor Mewtwo has amnesia AND insomnia now.
I'm glad they will at least be more than just stat boosts. Maybe they'll learn different moves too?

Magmaster12 August 8, 2013 12:24:17 PM

Mega Pokemon Discussion

First off I'm happy Mawhile got something close to an evolution, hopefully it's not the only one getting what it deserves.

Pokemon like, Sableye, Dunsparce and Jynx.
Maybe they'll even make some random retcon that previous pokemon that received new evolutions like Magmar or Rhydon were actually Mega Forms.

Also how will it effect the meta game?
Will they be considered Uber?

randoguy101 August 8, 2013 12:25:59 PM

Oh hey it's Pikachu with whiskers

Magmaster12 August 8, 2013 12:44:22 PM

I just found out they revert back to there regular selves at the end of battle.

Magmaster12 August 8, 2013 12:46:32 PM

I love the designs of all the new pokemon this might be my favorite coro coro so far.

So he have a rollerskating gym leader now, I'm guessing she's either fairy or fighting type.

randoguy101 August 8, 2013 12:49:51 PM

Blaziken apparently evolves via a hold item. Maybe it's just a hold item that changes a Pokémon's form? That would explain balance I suppose.

Alakazamaster August 8, 2013 12:53:25 PM

Man, those megaPokemon are like competitive dreams come true. Electric/Dragon Ampharos? Huge Power Mawile? If that doesn't move those Pokemon from NU to RU I don't know what will.

Also it appears as though Blaziken is due for another generation in Ubers.

Shade August 8, 2013 02:16:47 PM

This makes me wonder if every final evolution pokémon will have mega forms. If so, I wonder what mega umbreon would look like.

Plusleplusminun August 8, 2013 03:35:04 PM

the mega evolutions for some reason remind me of both super saiyans and the class upgrades you can use in Fire Emblem Awakening.

Magmaster12 August 8, 2013 03:52:17 PM

Can't wait for MegaMeganium.

zsaberslash August 8, 2013 04:02:55 PM

Is it bad I'm hoping there'll be a MegaTyphlosion? The name really reminds me of Digimon, by the way.

No, because I'm hoping for that too, and MegaZoroark.

FINALLY someone made a connection to digimon.

PHANTOMxTRAINER August 8, 2013 07:02:56 PM

Lol they all look like badass digimon.

I'm just gonna put out the things I don't like about these announcements.
1. The Pikachu Look-Alike - it's stupid and looks too much like pikachu.
2. Blaziken Mega form - If they get even better stats and stuff, that thing is OP. Plus, why ADD to a starter pokemon, especially if the evolution line has 3 stages already?!
3. Lucario Mega form - Like above, it's just way too OP.
4. Ampharos Mega form - Even though Ampharos isn't really that strong, it has 3 stages already.. though I like it's typing!

And then there's that whole fairy type thing.. Idk how to feel about this generation, there's so many ups and so many downs.

Or Warp Digivolving. That's what this reminds me of most.

GrassPokemonFTW August 8, 2013 08:34:03 PM

Not sure I'm on board with the mega evolutions just yet, but I'm interested to see where it will go. They do look interesting, though; I feel like if they extend Megalutions (yes, that's what I'm calling them) to most other Pokémon, they'll be a way to make up for the loss of Dream World abilities.

Meekuru is adorable. I approve of this Grass-type.
Horubii...um, well, I guess it doesn't hurt to have another rabbit with grossly oversized ears.
Dedenne is our classic sucky Pikachu-clone. It happened last Generation, the Generation before that, and...well, you get the idea.

Still waiting for more news on Oorotto, but this is a nice update in its own right.

kakashidragon August 8, 2013 09:05:39 PM

Yeah have Megagreymon VS MegaMewtwo or something, also im hoping for a mega raichu or garchomp.

(Oh dang, there's a typo in that.)

Pokemanmdj August 8, 2013 09:54:54 PM

I think it's rather neat- the whole idea of a Megalution.
Not that Blaziken really needs it. It will pierce the heavens ubers in competetive, still with speed boost. :p

I bet it's a different type of form change, though. Unless the "evolve 3 times" is void, it wouldn't really make sense for Blaziken to get an megalution. (Y'know, megalution flows. :3 ) And seeing as Mewtwo gets his Awakened Forme from this (According to the scan. ), I'd personally say it's a forme change.

But there better be one of these for Ledian- I mean, Ledian could really use it. And Ledian's my favourite big tupe. ;~;

Reuniclus August 8, 2013 09:55:12 PM

I would like Dedenne more if it didn't look too much like Pikachu. :L
For those who don't know, I don't like Pikachu.

RotomGuy August 8, 2013 11:18:10 PM

What if MegaRotom happens.

I'll be a happy bunny.

SuperEspeon25 August 9, 2013 12:11:14 AM

Honestly, I dont think I like the idea of Mega Evolutions. How does it effect the meta game? How does it work? I think they're changing Pokemon too much :\

Magmaster12 August 9, 2013 04:59:52 AM

I just realized that we only have one more issue of Coro Coro left before the game gets released.

Trailer is now out.

Mega evolutions explains the rainbow thing in the Japanese logo.

Yay another reason for me the hate PUSA for still refusing to change the American Pokemon Logo

PHANTOMxTRAINER August 9, 2013 06:27:14 AM

So wait. It's event only?! God damnit Pokemon.. I really hope I'll be able to catch the event, but it's likely that I won''t... *sigh*

Wolfbane5001 August 9, 2013 06:37:51 AM

What's up with the MegaAbsol? Looks like some idiot put MLP and Pokémon in a blender.... God why?

Where does it say its an event?

EDIT Wait never mind now I understand.

Mega evolution is supposed to be linked to this tower so not all of them could be required through event.

The Torchick holding the item needed to evolve Blaziken is an event. That's all I know.

PHANTOMxTRAINER August 9, 2013 06:55:14 AM

I really hope some Megastones are available in-game.. If not, I'll be blocked from the "X and Y experience".

I think most are, just not the Blaziken one.

blueumbreon August 9, 2013 07:59:13 AM

I really dig the looks of these new evolutions. ESPECIALLY Absol. Makes me even MORE excited to pick up my copy of X~

I really like the hair, it's very fitting

Magmaster12 August 9, 2013 08:45:41 AM

Hopefully none of them will only be available through DLC.

RotomGuy August 9, 2013 08:52:35 AM

New Video:

  • MegaEvolutions are just forms and are not permanent.
  • MegaEvolutions are triggered via Megastones and are in-battle exclusive
  • Blaziken MegaStone is event exclusive, the event starts at release date and comes with a Torchic.
  • You use Rollerskates to navigate through Korrina's gym.

HOW? How is it fitting? It looks like a stupid pony! Haven't the bronies screwed up enough? Including every server in TF2.

EDIT: I just realized how much rage I'm going to attract.

I was referring to its hair covering one of its eyes but okay sure.

Something tells me it's another one of those Pokémon designed by a fellow American. More icecream, anyone?

randoguy101 August 9, 2013 09:37:05 AM

So considering they showed off MegaMewtwo and MegaLucario (come to think of it, how are they going to fit these names into the 10 character limit?) using what look like very powerful moves, I guess they do indeed have their own special attacks as well

Those names probably aren't final. Probably they'll all have something different instead of 'Mega'.

Edit: Or they wouldn't be names at all, just when they mention the forms.

Cat333Pokémon August 9, 2013 11:21:23 AM

They'll probably have "Mega" in front of the name and not count it as part, similar to the gender symbol.

Also of interest is this part in the trailer:
Quote:

This Mega Stone is not available during normal gameplay.
If all Pokémon can be transformed with the stone, this may be of importance.

randoguy101 August 9, 2013 11:24:03 AM

Wasn't the item that Mega Event Speedy Torchic will be holding called Blaziken Knight? Or was that a silly translation error? If not, they may be unique to each Pokémon

Reuniclus August 9, 2013 11:33:16 AM

Took the liberty of editing the names of the Pokémon and characters to their English names.

Also put in a bit more info in addition to that.

Zoruark110 August 9, 2013 01:21:17 PM

Pokemon ''mega evolving?''

I have been watching some videos on youtube all about pokemon X and Y.
i then watched one video on a countdown and someone was talking about ''pokemon mega evolving'' there were pictures of ''mega evolved'' Blaziken, Lucario and Absol. I'd really like to see them in the games especially a Absol evolution

I think each one has a different stone.

Edit: Speaking of the stones, what's with the red and blue icon above the pokémon when they transform?

Tarellethiel August 9, 2013 05:04:17 PM

Now I've officially begun to dislike this. So, they seem to be showing it off as a power-up of sorts for pokémon...so, what, it'll increase all stats by 25% or something? If this isn't available for all pokémon, it could severely limit the variety in the competitive environment. I'm not looking forward to needing a MegaAbsol or whatever just to stand a chance.
I'm hoping I've misinterpreted this, and I probably have, but if I happen to be right for once then I think we should just put all Mega pokémon in Ubers when they come out.

Sorry for the rant, we now return you to your regular forum browsing.

I think almost ALL if not ALL of these new forms will be put in the uber section. And I'm not even sure what they do yet!

I think when everyone saw that MegaBlaziken had Speed Boost, everyone assumed that it would be put in Ubers. :P

Maybe its a hint about a game or something else. [i did notice that everygame i played or restarted over, the gamefreak building always hinted about another game there making] Edit: Then again i looked after i posted i didnt see no red and blue icon, wheres it at?

It's more of a red, blue and yellow. Look over their heads after the sphere shatters. It looks similar to the shape of Mega Absol's horn(as disgusting as that new form is).
Spoiler Alert:

MegaKangaskhan confirmed.

Magmaster12 August 10, 2013 08:45:19 AM

Finally the developers notice Kangiskhan has a baby.

http://www.serebii.net/megakangaskhanth.jpg

But you're technically using two pokemon at once, isn't that cheating.

It's ability actually allows it to attack twice. Two different moves. In one go. :0

Scizor seemingly confirmed to get a MegaEvolution by Hiro:

http://www.elotrolado.net/hilo_ho-po...50#p1733266600

Quote:

I'm going to be kind and tell you that Scizor is one of the other Pokemon getting Mega Evolution, although a lot more Pokemon are going to get Mega forms.
Hiro commonly posts on those forms, so it is him.

GrassPokemonFTW August 12, 2013 03:58:30 PM

I'm still not fully on-board with the whole Megalution hype, but I suppose it's not a terrible thing if it's battle-only and requires a held item. Maybe I'm just not so hyped up about it since no Grass-types have been confirmed to have a Megalution yet, so I'll see what happens when a Grass-type does get one.

(Please make one, Game Freak, or there will be problems with you and I)

kakashidragon August 13, 2013 09:05:51 PM

Ya whats sucks is if u need a certin held item to use a mega pokemon, u lose out on life orb/choice items/and leftovers.

That's the trade off you have to make, otherwise Mega Forms could destroy everything ever.

I'm happy that it's a certain item. #1, I wouldn't want the forms to be like an actual Evolution! #2, I like it because it's sort of like Giratina-O, who gains benefits for the loss of an item. That way, it's not TOO broken and it can be stopped.

Sub-zero August 18, 2013 05:57:24 PM

Whew, I'm glad they find a way to balance it. That Mewtwo ain't gonna like Sucker Punch, though. xD Anyways, I find this concept interesting, but I wonder why they decided on using on already powerful Pokemon such as Mewtwo and Blaziken. Lucario, even. With that said, will these Pokemon support stat raising moves? I dunno. I just think this concept is kinda broken, particularly with the Pokemon they chose to boost up (except Absol and the others that aren't THAT strong).

Tarellethiel August 21, 2013 03:20:25 PM

Perhaps there will be a sort of 'Super-Übers' tier for MegaÜber pokémon like MegaMewtwo and MegaBlaziken? And MegaOU pokémon will be moved up to Übers?

josegold February 20, 2014 02:58:28 PM

MegaMawile is going to dominate dragon types.
