Pokémon X and Y Soundtrack
I wanted to post this earlier, but I think it's been a long enough time to sit on it.
What do you guys think of the soundtrack of X and Y overall? I personally think that the soundtrack of X and Y is the best of the main series so far, as the orchestral themes that play through much of the game are, in my opinion, phenomenal. Granted, there are some themes that grew redundant really quickly, especially the Trainer battle theme, and some themes that were too similar to older themes (I think the Rival Battle Theme didn't change much from Gen V to Gen VI...), but on the whole the soundtrack is amazing. There are many to list, but my personal favorites are...
Awesome Music
So, comments on the soundtrack? And what are your favorite themes? |
Aw man this soundtrack is probably my 2nd Favorite to Gold and Silver's. My favorites were

I remember these themes standing out.

I like so much of the music. It fits really well together, and the trainer theme is definitely memorable.
Also, it looks like this will be the first Pokémon game to have the soundtrack released outside of Japan. Unfortunately, for those regions it will only be releasing to iTunes. Guess that means I'm going to still be picking up the CD. :P Here's the bad boy: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=OVCP-2 |
Favorite theme so far
I just beat the fifth gym leader, and along with the Team Flare Grunt Theme and Gym Leader Theme this one is at the top of my list. Ooh la la, tres French! |
Okay, please say I'm not the only person who thinks Lumiose City sounds like Good Egg Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy.
|
Now that I've played through the whole game, I'll include my favorite themes. :3

One of the things I've noticed is that Pokémon-Amie mini-games use sequenced music with BW soundfonts unlike most other music. Why? Probably dynamic layering and tempo changes.
|
Oh I almost forgot one thing about the soundtrack
WHY DID THEY BRING BACK THAT GOD AWFUL LOW HEALTH NOISE? I mean, it's not as piercing as it was in 4th Gen and below, but I screamed out loud the first time I got to red. |
I think enough people complained that the low health song ruined the epicness of major battles (particularly the awesome song for the champion in B2/W2) that they reverted to the beeping noise. Also, it only beeps four times instead of constantly.

I never liked it, but they also got rid of the climactic gym leader's last stand song, too. |
Y'know, I've noticed that some parts of songs in the soundtrack remind me of songs from other games.
1. Victory Road Theme with Unused Theme from Pokémon Yellow 2. Route 15 with LoZ Twilight Princess Overworld Theme AND Final Fantasy 9: Crossing Over Those Hills 0:16- 0:45 Sounds like the Hyrule Field theme from Twilight Princess 0:46 - 1:01 Sounds like the Field theme from Final Fantasy 9 3. Santalune Forest with Final Fantasy 9: Evil Forest Theme |
Oh, just a reminder, folks. No linking to the soundtrack due to some odd restrictions. Various game companies been really cracking down on soundtracks lately.
Anyway, I think I really enjoy the music played at this point:

Ooh, there's a jazzy version of the Hearthome City theme that plays when you speak to the lady in the house north of the Pokémon Center in Snowbelle City.
|
It's probably because I've been doing it so much, but I really like the songs for Super Training. I might even feel motivated to do an 8-Bit Super Training medley.
Is it just me or does the Wild Battle Music kinda sound like that of Hoenn's? |
Yeah, it definitely feels like Hoenn music.
The Gym Leader Battle music (I think it was that, at least) sounds a lot like the Gen I Champion Battle theme. |

Wow, I love the Champion music! Elite Four music is pretty good too.
Only open if you've seen the ending credits.

I think I've finally come to a conclusion about the soundtrack as a whole. While I don't exactly like how the overproduced Phil Spector-isms of Gen V's music came out, it was gripping. X and Y's soundtrack has a lot of very good tracks, the arrangements were soft and focused on wide, beautiful instrumentation. It reminded me a lot of D/P. Black and White had speedy, gripping arrangements, which is more my style (I think its music tainted my tastes.) I'm sure there's someone who enjoys an ambient sound, though.
My personal favorite song is the Gym Leader theme, my new 2nd favorite. Quote:

You can now get the soundtrack on iTunes for 9.99$.

I put down 2,900 yen (about $29) for an import of the physical soundtrack.
After looking through the iTunes track listing, I'm actually rather surprised that the Pokémon Origins soundtrack is included, and I'm even more surprised that it's in the international release. |
I'm stoked that they have the Pokémon Origins soundtrack included! I have about $6 to my iTunes account though, so I'll have to top it up in order to buy the soundtrack. I'm just so excited to listen to all of these on the go!
|
I can't purchase it because my "Network was reset". I tried purchasing a different song and it worked just fine. I have no idea why I can't buy the album.

But Kalos' music as a whole just didn't impress me for whatever reason. The only one I really liked was Sycamore's theme, and maaaaybe Lumiose City. Quite unlike Gen 4, when most every song in DPPT/HGSS has been my "favorite" at one point or another. Idk, maybe it'll grow on me over the next few months. |

Personally this soundtrack beat the snot out of what I expected, specifically with the Pokemon Origins OST held within it.

Loved the music in X/Y, so many good battle themes- I think my favorite is a toss-up between the Team Flare Boss theme and the Kalos Legendary battle theme.
Of course the best part of it all is hearing all those wonderful tunes again in online battles! |

Well, it finally arrived! Here are some photos of it.

So I finally went on the GTS for the first time in X and Y. My God the music is beautiful. ;_;
As one of the few people who like Gen. 4 the most out of all games the tune brings back a lot of memories of the hours I spent on the GTS. A great remix. On that same note, the piano rendition of Jubilife City which plays in a house was a sweet addition. |
It appears like an official soundtrack is now available for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver within the United States, again through iTunes for $10:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/po...on/id796790051 Like the one released in Japan, this one appears to include the GB Sounds versions of most of the songs. |
Oh wow, I didn't even notice that the FireRed/LeafGreen soundtrack was also available on iTunes (again, $10):

I still prefer the HG/SS soundtrack though, since it has stronger music, even most songs from Kanto are improved. But FR/LG still has a sick champion battle. I'm also glad that both soundtracks include some retro songs as well, since I prefer the retro sounds for a fair amount of songs, specifically the surf theme in HG/SS (my favorite pokemon song of ALL time, btw <3)
|
*looks at FrLg sountrack again and notices tracks 76 and 77*
Oh wow, I'm actually quite surprised they kept the two lyricized Japanese remixes. |
