September Tourney Discussion: Standard Pokemon Tourney

Hullo everyone! Kazam here, this is my third tourney hosted on the site, and this one is bound to be just as good if not BETTER than any of the ones in the past! With Gen. 4 coming to a tragic end thanks to Pokemon Black and White coming out, I figured that a proper send-off was necessary in the form of a site tourney! Much like the site's very first tourney, this is a no-gimmick, no special twist kind of tourney! Standard competitive rules, no banned generations of Pokemon, everything a good tournament needs. Speaking of such rules, here are the major rules that are to be upheld during the tourney. Learn them well if you do not know them already, or else tragedy and mayhem will ensue.

Rule 1: Banned Pokemon. There are plenty of Pokemon out there that are simply deemed to powerful for fair play, and as such they have received a fair banning. The following Pokemon are banned and as a result CAN not and WILL not be used on any team, unless you like being disqualified:

Banned Pokemon
Arceus
Darkrai
Deoxys
Deoxys-A
Deoxys-D
Deoxys-S
Dialga
Garchomp
Giratina
Giratina-O
Groudon
Ho-Oh
Kyogre
Latias
Latios
Manaphy
Mew
Mewtwo
Palkia
Rayquaza
Salamence
Shaymin-S
Wobbuffet
Wynaut

Rule 2: Sleep Clause. This one is easy. You can not put two or more of the foe's Pokemon to sleep, but keep in mind that if a foe's Rhydon used Rest, and then brought in their Meowth, you could put it to sleep as self-induced sleep does not make a difference.

Rule 3: OHKO Clause. Another easy one! Just don't use Sheer Cold, Horn Drill, Guillotine, or Fissure. All of these moves are banned.

Rule 4: Evasion Clause. This clause prevents you from using any move that raises your evasion. Move like Double Team and Minimize fall into this category. However, keep in mind that moves such as Sand Attack and Smokescreen ARE INDEED LEGAL. There accuracy-dropping effects can be remedied by switching out, so using these moves is a completely valid strategy.

Rule 5: Species Clause. This prevents you from using 2 or more Pokemon that share the same National Dex number on the same team.

:65: :65: :65: :65: :65: :65: X

:65: :65: :71: :124: :350: :80: X

:65: :124: :350: :71: :80: :437: :D

Rule 6: Self-Destruct Clause. If you and your foe are down to one Pokemon each, then this clause doesn't let you use Explode, Self-Destruct, or Destiny Bond on your final Pokemon. If you ignore the rule and bring down your foe anyway, then no matter what the game says you are declared the loser. This type of victory is not considered a valid one.

Rule 7: No Hacked Pokemon. This is without a doubt the most important of any clauses out there. Hacked Pokemon aren't just the ones such as the Dragonite with 999 in all of its stats that knows Hydro Cannon, Blast Burn, Frenzy Plant, and Splash, but also those that have been altered or obtained through the usage of outside tools such as Action Replay or *******. RNG Abuse is considered valid in this tourney.

Oh, and Quick Claw is also banned.

Well that's about it in terms of rules! If you have any issues or questions, bring them up now or forever hold your peace!

It's yet to be decided, but I think it'll follow suit of other tourneys and be 25th September at 12PM Noon Pacific. (I am correct in saying that it's the last Saturday of the month, right?)

IDischarge September 8, 2010 12:06:16 PM

If it is that will be perfect!!! :D

FINALLY a normal tournament which I can hopefully take part in!

I do have a request though: can the tournament take place on Friday instead of Saturday? In this way, I'm guaranteed to participate in it.

If, however, it is a problem, then I'm not going to be selfish and insist on changing it. After all, the majority of the members over here live on the West Coast :S

Well the date of the tourney is actually still up in the air, so once more information comes on based on possible happenings during the month a more concrete consensus will be reached.

Salamence...

I just realized how many of my favorite dragons were banned...
Anwyho this looks fun. Sucks my DS is broken. ._.

LiteTheIronMan September 8, 2010 03:57:54 PM

Oh sweet, a chance for me to actually use a regular unformatted team.

IDischarge September 8, 2010 08:50:53 PM

Aquablast September 9, 2010 03:14:57 AM

Sorry that what Nin said but anyway I can join this toyrney becuase this month is bad for me. The only day I can do it is the 11th but that don't give anybody time to pare. So I can not join this tourney.

Ningamer September 9, 2010 11:59:12 AM

What I said was the predicted time, since all official VR tourneys have been held on the last Saturday/Sunday of the month. It's still up for moving, and since this tourney's been decided on quite late it could easily be pushed back a week. Anyways, we'll discuss the date later.

KAz, I think you've got pretty much everything up there. I'm not gonna be so picky about RNG abuse this time 'round. :P

Aquablast September 9, 2010 12:02:50 PM

The only two date are 18th and 25th.

Alakazamaster September 9, 2010 12:03:59 PM

Yeah no one seems to be complaining about the rules or anything, so more likely than not sign-ups will open up tomorrow. There isn't a whole lot to discuss, anyway. The tourney will probably be on the 18th, since people who ordered Black and White from Japan won't have it yet and we won't be overrun by people raving about it.

Aquablast September 9, 2010 12:08:26 PM

I am going to being in a tourney for my library but I may see if I can join based on time but I probably wouldn't.

Good idea about think about people getting BW but I don't think there will be enough people but I think you can Cat to post a Youtube video and some other stuff. This is a great idea for a tourney.

RotomGuy September 9, 2010 07:55:18 PM

ROTOM IS NOT ON THE BAN LIST! YAY! I enter!

Wait, are Rotom forms allowed?

VictoryofAmerica September 9, 2010 08:34:15 PM

What time is this at??

Obviously, they're not allowed; the tournament is going to be done through DS battles, and so you can't have the Rotom forms in the Wi-fi Club unless you use an Action Replay, which is considered cheating.
