TUESDAY: Victory Road, Floatzel.Net, Pokékaki possible downtime

This Tuesday (March 29, 2011), Victory Road, Floatzel.Net, and the Pokékaki may experience downtime. We will be recreating the virtual machine for the VR server from scratch to fix many of the problems that have propogated from constantly changing interfaces and configuration for MySQL, Apache, and other server software. The new VM will not be posted live until the evening of Tuesday, so, theoretically, the aforementioned sites should be offline for very little time.

VRIM, VictoryBattles, Victorydex, Buizel.Net, and hosted sites should not be affected.

This should resolve much of the downtime, network latency, boot sequence, and possibly VRIM crashes.

Will this make the connection to the forums better?

Yes, it should.

Aquablast March 25, 2011 03:14:21 AM

Well I hate when we get downtime.

The Spirit of Time March 25, 2011 04:30:59 AM

I hope it works well. Yesterday, the server was down, and it was really annoying. Good luck in fixing it.

I'm really glad to hear that. Although I did not come across such issues recently, any effort to minimize them is appreciated for the future.

Yeah, that happened to me, too. I hope this fixes most issues with the server well.

A'bom March 25, 2011 10:30:17 AM

Alright. Thanks for the heads-up, Cat!

Kirby-Chan March 25, 2011 10:37:54 AM

That's nice to know the head of time so I don't have to wonder why the site is down.

FreezeWarp March 25, 2011 01:50:56 PM

In case you need me on as a free hand or whatever, feel free to PM me with a timeframe.

Cat333Pokémon March 25, 2011 11:23:46 PM

The timeframe will be about 2:00 PM PDT as the start of the work. No clue when things will be changed over.

James March 26, 2011 04:30:03 AM

I hope this fixes some of the random situations when hosted sites go down.

PokeRemixStudio March 28, 2011 08:44:59 PM

Oh dang, I thought today's downtime was part of the scheduled maintenance since it was Tuesday in some parts of the world :P.

Light Vaporeon March 29, 2011 03:52:02 PM

yay no more random downtime or crashes thanks Cat! :D

Cat333Pokémon March 30, 2011 10:10:57 AM

We didn't actually do much of anything except delete a few files. We're still on the same VM.

However, we did clear out over 100 GB of data from the root server by deleting some virtual hard drives for VMs that were no longer in use.
