Ever thought about how many Pokémon have changed over the years? The battles of Pokémon Stadium have changed a lot in Pokémon Battle Revolution. From Red and Blue to Heartgold and Soulsilver, the battle field has changed drastically. So many changes in strategy, moves, abilities, and training has led to a different experience with almost any generation.
Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh: the main regions that have taken the series into different directions. Whether it be new moves, double battles, abilities, EV training, or attack changes, something new has been brought to the series since the early onset of leaving Pallet Town. With Heartgold and Soulsilver arriving close in the future, remakes of the Gold and Silver games, I couldn't help but think of how the Johto series changed the game for us. New steel and dark types. Holding items. New stronger Pokémon. It all started with this part of the series and has really changed the games the most. It is because of this nostalgia I'm having that I want to post a series called "Generation Shift." In this series, I will look at several notable Pokémon that have changed over the years, whether it be new moves or different strategies or whatever new changes have happened to them. There are around 40 Pokémon that are used consistently today that were not the same back when we were just traveling to Viridian City. It's important to understand how they got better or why they got better. In this series, I will first discuss how a Pokémon has been used consistently. What has always been a strategy or way of using a particular Pokémon? After that, I will look at each region and discuss how they were used, giving movesets that worked best for each one and what improvements happened over time. I will conclude with how the Pokémon changed in a quick summary. So I hope you will enjoy this series as I post one each Saturday morning. This should give all you gamers, new school and old school alike, something to look forward to (so that you don't have to do the research yourselves you lazy Magikarps!). Enjoy the series and I hope you all look forward to interesting looks at many Pokémon. :) |
I really liked it! It would be great if one of these came out every Saturday, because its quite interesting to read. The writing style also works well. There are no complaints from me, so I would be greatly pleased if more of these were done :D.

Wow, that's a very nice analysis of the changes in Pokémon through the years. I'd love to see more!

I have plenty of time to write these on Fridays beforehand so that they can be read as smoothly as possible. |
Very nicely done! Gets very in depth of how the Pokémon changed during the generations. I would also love to see more of these.

I already have a good list of Pokemon to use for this series. It's amazing how many Pokemon have changed for better or worse. Edit: I can do this for about 42 weeks (meaning 42 Pokemon I found that had significant changes). This translates to almost of year of Pokemon analysis for me. I know it seems like a small number compared to the 495 Pokemon that are out there, but the Pokemon I found that changed the most were the ones that most people use. I'm also disregarding evolutions, and most of the Pokemon do evolve that I want to look at. |
I loved I can't wait for future ones.
|
Awww I love your post Jack~! Always gives me something to think about~! =w=
Yea, id love it if one of these came out weekly or so~! Perhaps the sneasel family could get analysis? ,:3 4th generation has been awfully kind to it. =w= |
I really like the idea. Love it!
Also, I agree with you about Gyarados; he is the most fearsome monster in the whole Pokemon World! |
Show us more! This is a great way to show changes through Pokemon history.

I agree with all these opinions:
Spoiler Alert:
So, needless to say, I exceedingly liked this article, and I'm looking forward to the next ones. |
Again, thanks for your support everyone.
Based on special request from my brother, I have already decided which Pokemon to do next week. Look forward to it. ;) Hey Cat? Any chance this could be posted as an announcement on Saturdays? We don't post all that many of them in the first place and it would be nice for people to see it first thing to get their attention that it's a "weekly" thing. Just a suggestion. I'd love to see this get attention the way the "Pokemon of the Week" gets attention on other sites. |
I love this, dude. This is a great way to annotate changes Pokemon go through from their debut to their most recent appearances.
|
It looks fantastic. Yes Jack I can't wait for your next one.
|
Thank god you're doing the Johto starters, I can't wait to see Meganium's! Typhlosion was just as good as Gyarados, keep it up!

Decisions, decisions... |
TYPHLOSION! :D
:typhlosion: One of my favorites too, obviously. :p |
Cat, Typhlosion has barley changed, except for maybe how thunder punch is no longer a usefull move.
You should do Dragonite :149: |

I'll have to research a bit more on the more "versatile" Pokemon like Dragonite. |
