Pokémon X and Y in October 2013

Just now, on Pokémon Direct, after running through a brief history of the classic games and mention of the delay of internationalization, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be released in October 2013!

These games will take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS console capabilities and be in full 3D! There will be some new Pokémon introduced, including the new starters: Chespin (a chestnut), Fennekin (a fox), and Froakie (a frog).

Jeez, October already? .-. They're releasing these new Pokemon games earlier than usual.

Also, is it me, or did one of the legendaries look like this? o_o

Magmaster12 January 8, 2013 02:17:35 AM

Cat I thought it was a lynx not a fox. *edit* no wait it's dutch name IS Fynx.

Also I am so relieved the water starter is not a Piplup clone, the anime nearly killed me with Oshwott.

Also the region is clearly based off of France.
Makes it a lot more ironic there water starter is a frog XD

TurtwigX January 8, 2013 02:19:29 AM

Heh, X and Y. The only thing that reminds me of is chromosomes. This is one of the first times in a while since I've felt less affection for the Grass starter. Fennekin sure does look nice~
The graphics already look like a major step up and it reminds a lot of... like what Orre looked like in XD. October everywhere~

Blood Swampert January 8, 2013 02:20:41 AM

WHAT ABOUT GEN III REMAKES?! T^T

Reuniclus January 8, 2013 02:21:02 AM

X + Y make me feel like I'm in Algebra class. :P

Anyway though...does anyone know what the heck Chespin is supposed to be?
Chestnut + (Pin?)

Cyrus January 8, 2013 02:21:11 AM

The starters...bleh, not bad but not awesome. We'll have to wait until the games come out to see how good they battle. But as for the overall designs, I'm not that much of a fan.

To me, Chespin sorta looks like a brown pachirisu with green leaves on it's head...

Cat333Pokémon January 8, 2013 02:22:28 AM

Official video added to the first post!

Imagine playing in Hoenn... but with THOSE details and graphics. Problem solved, you're welcome. They wouldn't have looked any good in 5th Gen anyway.

Blood Swampert January 8, 2013 02:23:02 AM

Well, now I'm just sufficiently butthurt.

Better ask for a 3DS for my birthday.

That mirror. Is that a hint for character customization? Also attached are the starters.

Reuniclus January 8, 2013 02:26:10 AM

I really like the Fire starter. It's a lynx ^~^ I also could've sworn the Fire type starter using a Psychic move in the video, so it might have a Fire/Psychic evolution....and it finally looks like we won't have a Fire/Fighting starter this time! :D

Magmaster12 January 8, 2013 02:26:29 AM

Love the fact that they're using cell shaded animation I was actually hoping they would.

The theme for the starters seems to be distinctiveness this time around hopefully this will mean unique type combinations for there evolutions.

Twiggy January 8, 2013 02:27:36 AM

Guess this is the first time I'll go with the Fire-type starter from the get-go. Oh, and have I reminded you that it looks like what if BW were never made for the DS and went for the 3DS instead? It looks like the part.

Generation V had an incredibly short run, though.

Also, RSE remakes on the 3DS would be glorious.

UltimaRaichu January 8, 2013 02:30:51 AM

Fennekin looks hotawesome!

I want one!

But I like the Grass-type too. SO CUTE.

(Is it not a reptile, or just half?)

Cyrus January 8, 2013 02:36:57 AM

It seems to me the water type starter will be the least liked and the least used. (unless it's base stats fair better than the other starter options)

Seriously, why another frog pokemon? We already have poliwag's evo line. I know that since there are a lot of water pokemon, creativity at this point is hard, but still...

Reuniclus January 8, 2013 02:39:39 AM

I agree with Cy. There are waaaaay too many frogs :c I honestly would've killed for a Water starter based off of a dolphin or something.

Got some images of the legendary Pokémon (mostly for the first post)!

TurtwigX January 8, 2013 02:46:07 AM

I dunno, I've always had some sort of affinity for frogs. The only that doesn't interest me so much right now is Chespin. But now that you've said dolphin Pokémon I hope there's one of those early on...

It's funny every time something in a real game reminds us of a bootleg game. Pokémon Diamond, anyone?

Also, seems like I must get every Grass-type, so Chespin's going to be mine in the end. :3

PokeRemixStudio January 8, 2013 02:51:44 AM

Alright, this is better than B/W Pinball.

Magmaster12 January 8, 2013 02:53:23 AM

I thought the grass starter looked familiar.

This is something minor I noticed when looking more closely at the video, but this legendary Pokemon has an "X" on his eye.

It makes me wonder how the legendary Pokemon's eyes will affect their special abilities.
Also, the remake for these games will be Pokemon Z. I'm calling it.

Cat333Pokémon January 8, 2013 03:10:33 AM

Ooh, looks like the bike is gone. Look closely at 0:26. He's using roller skates.

Screenshots, anyone?

Looks really cool, especially the battle animations. Can't wait!

teamplasma January 8, 2013 03:25:20 AM

The legends both looks like Y's to me... THIS IS SO EXCITING! So does this mean no RS? That would be a little disappointing but this makes up for it.

Fallen Trainer January 8, 2013 03:32:55 AM

I'm going to be getting a lot of use out of my 3DS this year with all of these games coming for it.

I must say, I believe this announcement lived up to all of that hype.

Shade January 8, 2013 04:27:28 AM

For some reason the titles of these reminds me of Generation X [those born before the technological boom] and Generation Y [those born when technology started booming].

Cat333Pokémon January 8, 2013 04:39:25 AM

I'm mostly really glad that we're going to be getting the game at approximately the same time as Japan--and that "we" refers to anywhere that normally gets the games, as I know we mostly cater to Americans and Britons.

Speaking of which, it looks like one of my previous hopes will be true: not having to worry about that phase of using the Japanese names prior to the English release. That also means no worrying about importing a region-locked game. :D

Yoshi648 January 8, 2013 04:40:54 AM

Holy freakin Arceus, that was awesome! I think I need to change my pants now....

(Also it's only been out for less then 3 hours and there are already three pages of this and multiple topics? Man you guys work fast, and most of us are still asleep.)

isbragg January 8, 2013 04:49:51 AM

"#PokemonDirect" and "Pokemon X & Y" are the top trending topics on Twitter at the moment. All aboard the hype plane! https://twitter.com/Bulbagarden/stat...042497/photo/1

NismoZ January 8, 2013 05:04:05 AM

Funny, the day after I discovered this.

SirShinyPichu January 8, 2013 07:34:44 AM

chespin... YOUR.MINE!

PureAurorae January 8, 2013 08:11:41 AM

Yet again the trainers sizes have increased! As for the new Pokes, I don't really like the look of the new ones released so far but the design of the Pokemon world looks very sexy if I may say, I hope the eventual Ruby and Sapphire remakes will be designed like this.

Fubab_107 January 8, 2013 10:18:19 AM

... You know. If Mozilla over there turns out to be a Fighting secondary type. I will break into a fit of laughter.

But oh my, more 3D. My interests are peaked again.

LugiaDialga January 8, 2013 11:25:54 AM

Well, I'm going to be blunt and say I'm laughing at anyone who so soooooo sure they knewwww it'd be RSE Remakes. I did want those, but I didn't think they'd be so soon after the previous HGSS remakes (plus All the other remakes skipped ahead at least one generation or system). I am a little disappointed it wasn't a spin-off game, honestly (yes, a new Pinball game would've been awesome actually, PRS~). I personally think that Generation 6 has come way too fast.... heck, I've not even learned all the Generation 5 Pokemon names. xP The starters... are.... meh. The Lynx is going to be overatted I know, since it looks like a fox. :P But I'll wait to see what they all evolve into before I decide, I think Chespin looks ugly though so I won't be choosing him for sure. >w<;; (My opinion though peoples~ I know a lot of people like this Pokemon, and that's good! For them). Anyways... I don't like the Deer Pokemon but that Avian! AHH! He's now only seconded by Lugia in my top favorites list. He's freaking... utterly... adorable~! <3 This game makes me think it's slightly based off of Paris. Kinda like BW was slightly based off the USA. Members from Gamefreak were in France recently I believe from a few tweets on twitter. So that's interesting.

Also, the Deer legendary has an X for a pupil in it's eye (zoom in on that sucker). I assume there is a Y in the Avian's eyeball too.

DashArmy January 8, 2013 12:22:17 PM

Good thing I was getting a 3DS this week. I'm just surprised it was announced so early, but hey, the best thing this time is that we're getting it the same time as the rest of the world. How d'you like them apples, Japan?

Also, I'm probably Captain Slowpoke here but the reason its called X and Y is because of the 3 axis in a three dimensional plane. So for a 3DS title, its pretty clever.

Super Pichu62 January 8, 2013 12:27:56 PM

Im not liking the new games too much...ive always liked the classic pixelated looks.
Say goodbye to spriting guys. ;~;

Nope, I think he's a little more obvious.

I... really don't know how to react to this as of yet. Personally, I think it was a little too soon, but it's possible they were working on these games from before Black and White 2 came out, which would explain how they already have constructed battle scenes, towns, 3D models, etc. Sure, I'll be reserving it, but... I don't know yet how my opinion falls on this.

Not quite. I may be able to use some help with that.

The Spirit of Time January 9, 2013 03:56:46 AM

The region, as well as how you meet wild Pokémon and battle... the graphics are just too awesome!

Alakazamaster January 9, 2013 09:24:24 AM

Generation 6 was the one announcement I didn't see coming from Game Freak. Black and White seem so recent, but I'm certainly not complaining about the news! Unless the final evolutions of the starters change my mind drastically, then I'll be going for a Fire-type starter for the first time ever. Far more important, though, is the question of whether or not the Abra line will be in this game's regional Pokedex...

One of the legendaries does look kinda like the picture (particularly the antlers). When I first saw that legendary, the first thing that pops in my mind does Bambi cross over the Pokemon World? o.O Look at the way the deer poses and the light...

Anyway, I am so surprise that Nintendo announce the new Pokemon games so soon. I don't even know all the 5th generation names. I like the graphics though, but I don't know my opinion to Pokemon X and Y yet.

Idno58 January 9, 2013 11:17:53 AM

Now, I'm just the peanut gallery here, but does anyone else notice that Fennekin has giant tufts of fur coming out of its ear-holes?

And also, if I'm not mistaken, Froakie is the first frog pokemon. All the other ones were actually Toads. It's TOADally different.

I know a feature I really want: a more reliable, functional, and resilient network!

PHANTOMxTRAINER January 9, 2013 06:22:54 PM

So they went from names of colors, to gems/rocks/minerals, back to colors and now letters... interesting~

Reuniclus January 10, 2013 09:35:54 AM

I really hope these games have autolevelling to level 100 like Gen 4. It would make things so much easier.

RotomGuy January 18, 2013 12:11:27 AM

This is the only Generation of Pokemon ever where I want all 3 starters.

The legendaries look very nice indeed! This is also the first generation where I want both legendaries too.

Funny thing, this is the first generation where I don't want the legendary Pokémon at all.
