Nothing new with Spriting?

As we saw in the newly released video the models for both Pokemon and TV characters are going to be in 3D. One of he first things I thought about was Spriting. Part of the excitement for me is spriting. So... Will this be the end of 2D Spriting?

That may seem dramatic, but with these new 3D models people will stop being encouraged to sprite. And it as already declining before that.

Some people are really dedicated to this stuff. There will always (well, hopefully there might) be that one person who likes spriting enough to make unofficial sprites of all the new Pokémon for everyone.
And why would its popularity decline? I love seeing those crazy fusions.

A lot of fusions are really just taking the official sprites and splicing together different parts. Original spriting, however, will definitely still thrive. (I might be able to use a few spriters to help with that on VRAC soon. ;))

In a few forums I am apart of I have seen less and less interest in Spriting. But you are are right there will be that person and there always will be a small group of people who are REALLY into spriting. It had it's day and that isn't now. Especially with with 6th gen now coming with 3d models. :|

I'm going to sound really mean here, but copy and pasting parts of other sprites to make some Frankenstein is not spriting. Cutting pieces of a painting to glue together is not painting. I have no idea how this concept of pasting together and recoloring became known as spriting. It isn't.

Spriting and pixel art is just another artistic medium. So long as you're able to place adjacent squares, you could sprite.

If people want to glue parts together, they could always dissect 3d models.

Wow, those sprites are really well made! I love the Y pokemon, I'd love to see attempts on X

Wait I thought the red one was X. XD (since the other's antlers look like a Y)

And yeah those sprites are pretty good. And it may actually be good since it will be 3D and I could get different angles of these sprites. :)

If you look at the Wyvren's FULL body, it's a Y :P

Those images look more in the style of Ruby/Sapphire, especially Chespin, than the later games. Not bad, though.

There is one I grabbed from Pixiv as well, I only saw a Fennekin one but I'm sure that others will crop up soon enough. The hype isn't going to go anywhere, after all.

Way to give credit to the artist, guys.

Spoiler Alert:
At least you did not credit google images.

I found some pretty cool sprites of the staters on DA, they were created by an user on DA named N-Kin.

Oh joy, animated sprites. Here is where I start to miss the sprite art, they have such a cute charm about them.
I know how to credit artists as an artist myself, amazing isn't it? :P Once I can actually get back into my Pixiv account, I grab the Japanese artist's username and edit my post from earlier.
