Yes and no.

You can find odd Pokemon surfing on the dock East of Cinnabar (such as Tangela). You can also find MissingNo with the glitch will max out the 6th item in your bag. Also, catching MissingNo will NOT corrupt your game.

In fact, TWO of my friends have caught MissingNo. One traded it to silver (which turned into a Kangaskhan with sky attack) and the other transfered it to Pokemon Stadium (which turned into a Rhyhorn with two water guns and a sky attack).

By the way, MissingNo is usually over level 100 when you find it, but is very easy to beat.

I used to believe that if you nicknamed a pokemon with another pokemon name, it will evolve into that pokemon. I trained a Charmeleon named Mew in Yellow to level 36, and was disapointed when it did not become a Mew. I'm pretty sure I tried the same thing with a Phanpy named Latias in another game. <.<
