I'm glad nobody here has voted for the first option. I know a few (mostly older) folks who think that having a cluttered desktop is the reason for a computer running slowly and simply filing them away to My Documents will make it faster.

Yeah, I think I worded it a little oddly, but it's this: not falling for the fallacy that having a large number of icons eats up more space on your hard drive than having a few, regardless of their content. (Don't get into allocation units.) I have personally seen this before, too.
