What disappointed you in Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver?
In spite of the new games being extremely appealing for all Pokemon fans (me being one of them), it is undeniable that every game must have something disappointing for some person or the other. The same goes to Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver. So, is there anything in particular which disappointed you?
I personally was slightly disappointed at some of the Pokemon sprites, such as Pinsir's and Scyther's. However, that didn't ruin my extremely positive view upon the games. (You can have a look at the Pokemon sprites here) |

The fact they didn't change any of gym leaders teams, no mention of Agatha, Lorelei, or Leaf, the put way to many pokemon in the safari zone, the Gen IV evo's didn't get new sprites despite being in the Johto Dex, and the thing with the golden leaf.

Re: What disappointed you in Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver?
Some people might consider my grievance to be pointless. I didn't like the fact that you can begin trading with DPP immediately after you get a Pokedex. I really think that ruined a good challenge and it allows for some unfair sequence breaking. Having said that, I am a Metroid looney, so I should be happy with sequence breaking. But not in this game.

Kotone isn't bad and I like the costumes of both Gold and Kotone. I was disappointed with some sprites and the fact that the Battle Frontier didn't change a bit! Although the gym leaders got their teams stronger, yet I expected more from Nintendo. I also hate the fact that Celebi isn't a Wi-Fi event, unless I am wrong.

Battle Frontier has bored me since Emerald for some reason. I should try harder to get into it.
As for the Pokéthlon, I keep forgetting that exists. I often just fire up the game, do a bug-catching contest, and power down. |

Awww im a big fan of the battle frontier =w= Very useful way to get items and challenging as well. I just wish they would have a building that allows 6 pokemon. Ive beaten all the battle frontiers brains on platinum but getting to the 2nd battle with them to get the gold pass is near impossible with only 3 pokemon, since eventually they'll be a trainer that counters it completely .-.

Also, I'm still bothered the combat doesn't go a bit faster without turning off the animation. Shouldn't we choose to attack a Pokemon and have the attack do the damage at the same time (like in other games) without waiting for the attack to finish? I say a choice next to the regular style and no animation. |

xD To be honest, one of the disappointments for me was the lack of a VS Sprite Animation before battle for Pokémon Trainer Red. It just seems completely out of the ordinary to not give him one, especially when they gave Sakaki one.
Note:To avoid confusion, "Sakaki" is called "Giovanni" in the English games. Someone on Deviantart made one that I think could work quite well as an official one, though: http://da-suspect.deviantart.com/art...rait-137324029 |

That all you're three starters aren't lv.100 magikarps thats move sets were flare blitz, sky uppercut, fly,and close combat....and a focus sash. Nah! I wish that you can do all the regions from Kanto to Shinnoh. I know that would keep you occupied for HOURS. I can't wait for a Pokemon handheld experience where you can go through all the regions. THAT...WOULD...BE....AWESOME! I would love it. Too bad.

I bring this up because I saw it roughly mentioned, but Platinum's lack of polish in the movement permissions really annoyed me - buildings that, when you are far enough left or right of them, clearly have a good two steps of open space, however you can't access that area. This was polished near perfectly in Emerald, and was reasonable in Diamond/Pearl, so we kinda went backwards. I'm assuming HGSS is better.
Some problems that, from the news, I've found slightly annoying are the fact that the Safari Zone was brought back so en masse (it may as well be impossible to actually make heads or tails of what Pokémon can be found where with what items). I also was considerably disappointed by the fact that the game doesn't use weather effects very well (for someone who has actually played the game, I would love you to contradict me on this). What disappointed me the most was the sprites. Poor Jolteon.
...That also ticked me off. Now we have to play the new game, Voltorb Flip, which is even more random than the slots. At least in the North American version. In the Japanese version, the slots are there. And you can buy coins with money! |

T~T That I can only battle Erika on Sunday mornings. Otherwise, I would make it my duty to battle her at least once a day. 8D; Also, Cycling Road transitional building, your hat outline kind of melts with the desk outline. Though, my character is Lyra, so I'm not sure if Ethan/Gold has the same problem. |

The Gym Leaders need to be harder and there needs to be more trainers to train with. I went through the entire Lake of Rage and Team Rocket's hideout by that tree in Mahogany just to train for Jasmine (fighting every trainer). One that was finished, my Pokemon were Lv. 28-30. It took me a few tries to beat Jasmine still.

After playing Voltorb Flip a lot, I'm not mad that they took slots out, rather that the payout in Voltorb Flip isn't high enough. It should've been higher to compensate for the fact you can't buy coins.
Also, it's beginning to tick me off how I can't just track down the Gym Leaders for rematches. I need their phone numbers! I'm bored as hell and I need to grind levels! |

Am I the only one who thought the Pokeathlon was just bad in general? It may be the poor calibration on my DS, but those minigames were just downright annoying. I wish they left Contests in.
But I think I'm in the minority here, so I guess you can disregard me. |

Yes, but I never do it right. It always turns out off.
To you. I certainly don't like spending an entire minigame clueless of how to control my Pokemon correctly while everyone else wins. The other two I played were okay, but one was recycled out of Stadium 2. I liked the contests mainly for the strategic part of them, which meant you had to put some thought into what you did. The Pokeathlon just lacks that. Medals seem to equal ribbons, here (but I don't have any so I'm not totally sure), and Rare Candies are essentially worthless given that they don't boost your Pokemon's stats, just their level. Also, ribbons in D/P just so happen to help out unlocking the Ribbon Syndicate, which can help a lot with evolving Pokemon by happiness. |

A few aesthetic details also made me a bit dissappointed.
1. You have how many buttons on the DS that don't serve any function? And only two items can be assigned to a face button? I would like to have my Bike, Super Rod, and GB Player all assigned to three different face buttons. 2. Music doesn't change from day to night like it did in DPP. In DPP, this gave a bit more of a realistic "oh wow, time actually passes while I'm playing this game" feel. Although you could tell when the sun is rising/setting/not out, it still ruined the experience a bit for me with the exclusion of specific themes for times of day. 3. This isn't really aesthetic, just... Why is it so hard to get in contact with Gym Leaders for rematches? In Platinum you just went to the Battleground and they'd alternate. Now we have to hunt them down for their numbers and call them at certain times of certain days. |

Today I started catching Dittos, and noticed a huge flaw in the new PC system. It is now insanely difficult to re-arrange Pokemon based on numerical order, because you can't move a Pokemon to a box that is full. Before I could just keep switching Pokemon with each other, but now I must find a new way to do it. Plus re-arranging Pokemon just seems awkward in general with the touchscreen. :/ They even got rid of the multi-grab feature, which was incredibly stupid. It is now extremely tedious to move Pokemon in bulk.

One of the biggest grievances I had was how easy the Johto portion of the game was, and by exstension how difficult it was. Most of the Trainers (including Gym Leaders) were pathetically simple to defeat, and the wild Pokemon? Don't make me laugh. As a result, I would breeze through large portions of the game thinking that this is way too easy. However, when I get to an opponent who's level is higher than mine, grinding becomes infuriatingly difficult because there was no one strong enough to give my Pokemon decent XP, despite the fact that all of my Pokemon except one was traded over from Platinum (I trade my entire team over to each new game I get as level 1 infants) and thus received an XP bonus.
I can understand why some people lament the loss of the slots. Voltorb Flip should have been an addition, not a replacement. However, I've never liked the Game Corner in any case, so this is one oversight I can ignore. The Pokeathlon should not have replaced the contests either. I will always prefer to compete in the athletic events as opposed to the show events, but removing contests entirely makes little to no sense. The Flying issue is also annoying, and I don't like the way the 2.5D graphics make it difficult to know what I can and cannot walk behind. I also found some of the dialogue difficult to swallow, and cutscene immobility has always frustrated me, but these have always been a part of the games, so eh...There're other issues, but those are my biggest. The game did a lot of stuff right (I never want to bike or Fly anywhere because I love having my Pokemon follow me) but it also made a lot of mistakes I didn't think it would. I hope Nintendo learns from these before Black and White go out. |

A pet peeve of mine is when one complains about something directly related to one's acttions. To blame underleveledness on the game design is stupid because there are many opportunities to level grind. |

My point is, while it's perfectly possible to grind it takes a lot of patience to gain any decent levels against wild pokemon of that calibur. Most people will simply breeze through the game thinking they're on top of the curve until they get walled by a really tough trainer. That was actually one of the things that I found very annoying. In every other game that I can remember, in order to be strong enough to defeat a Gym Leader you had to be a high enough level to run away from the wild Pokemon in the area, so in order to even get there you'd be fighting Pokemon that would nturally bolster your level as you trekked. If you managed to arrive and found yourself lacking, the Pokemon were strong enough to offer decent XP so you could grind. Not so in Gold and Silver, for reasons I stated above. Let me say this nicely and calmly...THE LACK OF TRAINING SPOTS. There are about... hmm... 2 places to grind for the elite 4. And they are both crappy. You can barely get EXP in trainer battles, you have to rely on Gym Leaders, which are impossible to grind for the Jhotto elite 4. When I got to the elite 4 in my 1st runthrough, I was a team of level 30s. NEEDS. MORE. EXP. *breaths in, and out* Im done.

The Game Corner, it was an Epic fail.
I checked out the Japanese Version, and it HAD a Game Corner. For some reason the English version has a useless old man who wants to play one mini game with you.. grr. Also, Victory Road. No Trainers? (Ok I know this was also in G/S/C) But some good training before the League would have been helpful. Otherwise HG/SS is my Wife. |
