For one thing, I hate digitally downloading any games. I can't play computer games due to not having the "perfect gaming computer" and if it's on a system I will push for the physical. If it's an arcade game I just give in.
For the most part I do most of my game shopping at GameStop. It's exactly near, but it's always in stock with whatever it is I'm searching for. Nowadays (Can't really say that, I only buy games once every few months) I go to the Target which is just around the corner from me. They don't always have everything, but I only travel 1 mile versus like 10, so I always try it first. |

I feel the same way. I have a terrible Dell (*shudder*) thats ancient. It has too much old crap on it to save Steam. As for consoles, I have a Gamestop about a mile away from my house that has some awesome people working there. They're so kind. Sometimes I download games of XBLA like Minecraft or Castle Crashers. They should make a disc version of CC.

I always buy games on steam nowadays, unless it's not available there. Not even really because of sales, I just find it a convenient service. But then again, I don't really buy many games period, and they're usually not big company games.

Most of my purchases recently have been coming from online (mainly game collecting forums I visit and eBay). Next would be garage sales and thrift stores, I love popping into those whenever I get a chance wondering what kind of wacky surprises I'll find. After that we got some local mom-and-pop type stores that specialize in classic games, pretty nice to visit every now and then. Standard retail chains (Wal-Mart, GameStop, etc) I really only visit if a new game comes out that I want to play ASAP when it is released (like upcoming Pokemon X and GTA V) or if they have something I want on sale. Digital stuff is pretty much all from Steam when they have stuff on sale for crazy prices.

Gamestop is closest place so they're now my main place to go to.
I also sometimes go to Target. I'll also buy games from Best Buy or Amazon if they have a good deal. The last three sims expansion games I got off Origin on sale but I'm done with them. Last edited by Magmaster12; August 24, 2013 at 06:16:17 PM. |

Gamestop is only a few kilometres away, and there are literally two Gamestops within 500 metres of each other, so I have double the chance of them having what I want.
Otherwise I buy games from garage sales (because nobody ever knows what anything is worth around here), or from Amazon if I'm looking for a specific game not sold in-store. I also import through Play-Asia, but I haven't lately because of region locking, and because I plan to buy quite a few games when I travel to Japan in a few months, which will save me money in the long-run. As for digital downloads, I buy eShop exclusive games (Pokémon Dream Radar, etc...), games whose digital copies are more rare and pricey (Majora's Mask, etc...) and Google Play/Maketplace games just to pass the time. Deeeeepends...
Most of my New game purchases are either done on Steam/Origin if on PC and accessible there. Then there are the very slim few I buy from the respected marketplaces on the consoles for the reason you can't get them any other way. If on a console, more than likely I'd go to either Wal-Mart, Target, Future Shop,(Pretty much like BestBuy.) If those are out, I'd tend to go down to the malls to Gamestop or HMV (Music/Movie store,) unless a pre-order bonus drives me there first. For older titles which may be harder to acquire, I would hope transit or drive down to either the Cash Converter (Local Pawn Shop near me.) or to Game Traders (Local game exclusive shop.) I almost never buy Console games digitally for some reason, not sure why. Most PC titles I'd try to get physical, but more than often I just opt to go digital on those. Nearby, there are two GameStops literally within 500 FEET of each other. A major mall with one right across the street from a strip mall with one in one of it's smaller buildings. Needless to say, that is where most of my physical purchases for consoles happen. In terms of PC games, Steam is where it's at. I will also take advantage of a console's digital offerings.
EDIT: I don't have a smartphone, so nothing there for me. Last edited by isbragg; August 26, 2013 at 10:30:38 PM. |
