During EV training, the EXP. Share also shares EVs, so you don't have to use the Pokemon you're training in battle. Once your Pokemon's EVs are maxed, you can fight other Pokemon without worrying about gaining EVs, because you won't gain anymore.

Exp share gives the exact same amount of EVs as long as the pokemon is getting exp. So lets say I switch out ALL my pokemon in my team atleast once on 1 pokemon and then KO it. That means they all get a split of the experience so they all get the full amount of EVs. Trust me i've been using this method for ever. |

I don't use the Exp. Share method though. I prefer the switch in method. For unaware readers: Switch in method is when you basically send the Pokemon you want to get the EVs, then switch it out with a different Pokemon. After the battle, both Pokemon get the total EVs. I find this useful because if I equip a Pokemon with a Power item and PokeRus, then use the switch in method, it still gets the full 10 EVs. If I use the Exp. Share method, then I wouldn't get the 10. Assuming I had PokeRus on the Exp. Share'd Pokemon, that Pokemon would get 5 EVs. (unless I just did my math wrong, but the point is I don't get as many EVs from the Exp. Share method than I do the switch in method.) If you're going for time, I suppose the Exp. Share method is easier, but you'd have to fight a few more Pokemon than you'd like to, so I use the switch in method. |

I never switch out or use Exp. Share. The Pokemon I fight for EVs are all at reletively low levels, so my Level 1's have trouble at first, but once they level up its not a problem. Sweepers and walls need Speed and HP, respectively, and there are level 2 and 3 Bidoofs for HP, and Magikarp for Speed. I start out on them, and I have gained enough levels to fight either Gastly for Sp.Atk, Machop for Atk, Geodude and Onix for Def. I have yet to train for Sp.Def, oddly enough.

This may be a little late, but I think this may be helpful:
http://www.serebii.net/games/iv-calcdp.shtml It's an IV calculator. Just put in the stats, nature, (My bad! You don't need to put in EV's. Your supposed put in the stats the moment you look at them.) Last edited by Quadcentruo; May 20, 2010 at 03:49:46 PM. |

I hate the EVs that Wormadam actually gives, 1 Def and 1 SpD Serebii says it gives 2 SpD... Someone knows something to make EV training more fun? I got like 1 box full of breeded pokémon and they need EV's. |

Could I share my favourite HG/SS hotspots here?
HP: Go down to Slowpoke Well and surf on the first patch of water you see. You'll only find Slowpoke, which'll dish out 1 HP EV each. Atk: Head to Mahogany Town and go west, towards Mt. Mortar. Surf again, on the water in front of the cave. There you'll find Goldeen and Seaking, giving out 1 or 2 Atk EVs respectively. Def: Go over to Pallet Town and surf just past the fence. The patch of grass there is home to Tangela, who give out one Def EV each. However, every so often (Though they're pretty rare) you'll come across a Mr. Mime, so make sure you run from those. SpA: Like Quad said, surfing in Ilex Forest is the place to go. SpD: Find yourself almost any patch of water (The water between Olivine and Cianwood is probably the best). Surf on it. Tentacools will give you 1 SpD EV each, and Tentacruel will give you 2. Spe: I have two places for this, but one's really for higher-levelled. The first is Diglett Cave, where you'll find Diglett and Dugtrio (Duh). Diglett give out 1 Spe EV, while Dugtrio give out 2. Watch out though, because they might have Arena Trap, stopping you from switching out. I only recommend this place for higher-levelled Pokémon or Flying-types. The second Speed training spot is a great one. Head on over to the Power Plant in Kanto. The grass outside that is home to Spearow (1 Spe EV), Voltorb (1 Spe EV), Raticate (2 Spe EVs), Fearow (2 Spe EVs), and Electabuzz (2 Spe EVs). However, if you go training there at night you'll come across Quagsire frequently, which give out HP EVs rather than Speed. And that's what I've got! Good luck! |

This is a little late but I don't think anyone shared BW Pokemon to EV grind at. (even though it's sort of common knowledge)
Palpitoad- HP (2 points) Patrat, Lillipup, Pidove- Attack (1 point each) Roggenrola, Durant- Defense (Roggenrola 1, Durant 2) Purrloin- Speed (1) Litwick- Sp. Atk (1) Gothita (Black Only!), Frillish- Sp.Def (1) Note- Evolved forms of Patrat, Lillipup, Pidove, and Purlloin will yield 2 points for their stat. |

Pokerus Modifies EVs
This may have been already said earlier in the thread, but in case it's buried somewhere down there, I'll bring it up.
Pokerus is, as its name may imply, a virus that catches on to Pokemon randomly. It's about as uncommon as Shiny Pokemon (if not, please do clarify). It's contagious, so if one Pokemon on your team catches it, they all do. Even though it's a virus, it's actually a REALLY good thing to have. Each Pokemon has an EV yield toward each stat, which usually goes at most to 2. HOWEVER, if a Pokemon has Pokerus, each EV they get toward a stat for fainting a certain Pokemon is doubled and contributed toward their stats. Here's one way to look at it-- Magikarp has 1 Speed EV if memory serves, but if a Pokemon that has Pokerus has it, it will recieve 2 Speed EV instead. A Pokemon that has pokerus will have a purple PKRS symbol on their stat page. Pokerus will go away if a Pokemon is outside the computer with it after a random amount of time. HOWEVER, the effects will continue to last-- it just can't be transmitted anymore. If you give it to a Pokemon you don't use, though, and keep it in your PC, you can keep the Pokerus available to transmit to other Pokemon indefinitely. It makes a great gift to trade across to your friends if you get it, too! Another way you'll know about Pokerus is if you have your Pokemon healed at the Pokemon center, then the Nurse begins to inform you about the virus, CHECK YOUR TEAM-- you've probably been infected. This has actually happened to me TWICE before-- on HeartGold version and Black Version. It's much easier, btw, to get PKRS on Gen III-V then in II, and it does not exist in Gen I. |
