Default Generation VI pets

Looks like there won't be any sprites in XY (not sure if at least some part of the game will have sprites), so I'm not sure how I will implement the new Pokémon in the coming days/weeks. If anyone has any good ideas, go ahead and post them. Remember, I cannot use images unless they can be perfectly cropped out and placed on a background of a different color.

Give it time. There will eventually be non-official 2D sprites of the Generation 6 pokémon.

I just hope they don't look like crap and I don't have to give credit. (Well, maybe on the credits page, but not on the sprite or the Pokémon page.)

When simulators have to use the Gen VI pokemon, they'll probably find sprites too, so you might be able to use them as a source xD

*BUMP*

Anyone else have any ideas? I kind of want to add some Gen VI Pokémon, but it might be too early, as we lack the evolutions right now.

Maybe the games will still include some form of sprites (similar to menu icons), so who knows?

I think the game will include the menu icon sprites, but will be in a different style than they normally are (as this is a 3D game).

And I think that you could add these new Gen VI Pokemon. Even though the Evolutions aren't released, I don't think people will mind too much.

Menu icons is a possibility, but on the topic of cropping it looks like there's not going to be any anti-aliasing in the new games, which should make cropping them out perfectly a breeze. I guess a lot of sites will be having this problem, since sprites are such a big part of the handheld games that many fansites rely on them greatly, so maybe we can just wait around and see what they do!

If all else fails, we have a community here which consists of at least a few decent spriters, too!

I can see Fletchling and Fennekin's menu icons in the picture. I wouldn't mind waiting for the Gen 6 adopts until X and Y come out, honestly. We'll have all of the menu icons by then.

The small icons will be nice for the little icons below names, but I'll need full-size sprites to add the Pokémon to VRAC without them looking out of place.

You could replace the full-size sprites with the Pixel images of the Pokemon. The full-size sprites aren't as important as the icon sprites.

A lot of people use these off VR where the full-size icons are the norm. Hmm...

Actually, the 3D models in battling seem to be able to be cropped without white edges. We can just get the models from a good view and make them the right size. It might be possible.

That might be doable. Gotta find someone with the 3DS capture device planning to get X/Y who is willing to help (unless someone releases the images credit-free). Of course, there will be official art, so we could use the Sugimori art too.

If we're going with alternative kinds of art, it'd be wise to replace all of them for consistency's sake.

Well here's some proper sprites if you want to put out certain pokemon early.

This seems to work out best for GrassPokemonFTW since Chespin is the only starter

Yeah, I saw that on Kotaku. Those sprites would be fine for the little icons, but we'd still need something for the full art.

Seeing as there will be a Pokémon Global Link for X and Y, do you think we should wait until then? Flash Player assets can be easily extracted (as seen in Global Link for Generation V). Think there will also be mini-sprites there? I think that there will probably DW-equivalent art there.

That could work if they get put up.

Again, though, I can't look at the Pokémon until I see most of them in-game. I don't want to be spoiled, so it'll probably be a month or more before VRAC gets them. That'll also give whoever extracts the images plenty of time to actually get them.

I just realized that Serebii has both a 3DS capture device and is getting 2D caps of Pokémon models off his captures. They sure look very nice on Serebii's site. Think you might be able to get permission to use his captures for both main and icon "sprites"?

I still have that e-mail from Serebii Joe saying that I could use Gen V materials without credit during the news days, so that probably is still valid. 'Course, in this instance, if he's doing the capturing himself, that might be different.

Either that or I'll wait for Bulbapedia to get something of the sort, as their materials are usually usable.

Also, the images are a little...big. I mean, it doesn't really matter here because the icons will be fine, nor does it actually matter for the images on the adoption site, but for the people embedding them in their signatures on other forums, the images will be about 120x140.

Hmm, maybe I should change the default signature images to use the icons too instead of the full sprites?

(for everyone, not just what I did for VR)

After all, it does limit the number that can be put into a signature having a huge image like that. I can very easily convert all the large images to small ones with a little renaming.

Heck, if I go that route, maybe I can just convert to Sugimori or Dream World artwork? But then what should I do about shinies?

Hehe, I see what you're thinking of.

The Pokédex has a 3D model viewer built-in. Maybe Serebii can help in this - there's a zoom function in there, giving you three sizes. You can rotate them, too. Perhaps for larger Pokémon, the smallest size would fit better?

For the latter, you'd need someone else to help recolour all of them, so I think it might be a good idea to hold onto things until people actually get the shiny colours for everything.

This might take until the release of the next game(s), though. A good idea would be either suppressing shinies for new Pokémon or temporarily using the same art as normal until a shiny "sprite" shows up.

Alright, yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to switch to the mini icons as the default for off VR as well. I think all I have to do is rename a single file. Shinies are going to definitely be a challenge, though. There is no artwork of them (including Gen VI).

There are these, however:

Alright, I have swapped the icons and updated the [adopt] BB Code, so now everyone is using the mini icons. I've also obtained the both the mini icons and the images of the Gen VI Pokémon off Serebii. I have also obtained all of the X/Y mini icons of previous gen Pokémon too (at least the ones that have been found so far). No idea if I can use them yet, though, and they're still missing shiny forms.

Guess we'll have to temporarily mark shiny Pokémon with some other method for now. Better than going behind, eh?

The model images of Pokemon on Serebii look like they come from the previews from the Pokedex. If that is the case, we can send you pictures of our Shinies in the Pokedex and you could crop them. (if possible)

Er, how would we take a clean picture of them? I don't know anyone here with a 3DS capture device. I had a buddy with one, but he graduated last semester and moved away. It'd probably be easier to modify the ones from Serebii, and we probably won't get the rest of the images until the Bank comes out. It'd look really weird to have some of them still as sprites.

I'm hoping Bulbapedia gets the rest of the Global Link images so we can temporarily use those.

Hm, at this point, would it be wise to simply play the waiting game until a little after Pokémon Bank comes out? I'm not sure what to do about the images.

I bet Serebii might be able to get the mini icons for every single Pokémon with a bit of screen capture magic.

(Also, I think the PC Box quick-view is better for full-size Pokémon images, too. No nasty faux LCD overlay.)

Faux LCD overlay? You mean for the images of the Pokémon?

And yeah, I already have all the Gen VI mini icons (and updated icons for some previous Pokémon).

Yep. I'm actually that there are multiple places where you can get a nice, fixed view of a Pokémon. Besides the Pokédex, you have the top screen PC Box summary, and the general Pokémon summary screen to work with.

I believe the overlay spoken of is the one that the Pokedex uses. It's very annoying.

Looks like we won't have any trouble trying to get shiny Pokémon images as Serebii has begun to compile shiny images for the new Pokémon.

Well, that's good to hear. Hope I wouldn't have any problem using them.

Looks like Serebii now has the unobtainable Pokémon models up.

Are you going to give the option for Espurr to evolve into female Meowstic? Right now I think it defaults to the male one.

For the time being, genders do not exist. I've considered adding them several times, but it simply isn't feasible at the time.

You could be totally game-breaking and have it evolve with a male stone or a female stone. But it's not that big.

Oh crap, you're right I should so test this.

...And I just got a Honedge. Those images are lookin' pretty good. I'd add it to my signature but there's an issue with the line limit and I don't feel like trying to fix it this late in the morning.

Hm, Frillish and Binacle are also missing. Otherwise, I have added all the shiny images except those listed above.

I have added all of them, but I set a few aside for special events, including the monthly promotions.
