Happy 20th birthday Mario Kart!
That's right, one of the most popular racing games turns 20 today! It was on this day in 1992 that a little game called Super Mario Kart was released in Japan (followed by a US release 5 days later). A game that started out just to be a multiplayer game similar to F-Zero became one of the greatest hits to grace gaming. From beating your times on the track, to multiplayer fun Mario Kart has proven again and again to be a smash hit with no signs of stopping. Thank you Mario Kart for the countless hours of fun, and here's to another 20 years!

Happy Birthday to my favorite racing game, Mario Kart! *Throws a cake* This series is so great. I never thought that a game where throwing bananas and shells just to tick off friends and family would be such a great hit. Wait... yes I did. Funny, I'm only missing 2 of the Mario Kart games, for the only 2 systems I never owned, but I have played all 9 of them numerous times. (Well, the arcade games a lot less, but y'know)

It seems that a lot of major Nintendo-related anniversaries are coming up on us very quickly, and this is one of the stand-out ones to me. While I haven't been a fan of the series from the get-go, it seems to have evolved over the years into something that anyone can enjoy casually. I myself have owned 3 of them, and played 6 of them at one point or another (Mario Kart DS being the only one left out). I think it's fair to say that this is one game that deserves this major milestone.

My first Mario Kart was actually Double Dash, and it took me SO many years to complete the stuff in it, but I did it. I mostly main the Toads with it. Next came Mario Kart Wii, DS, Super Circuit, and then 3DS. I play the arcade version whenever, y'know, I go to the arcade. |

I've never really had many fond memories of Mario Kart except a little bit back in '02~'03 when I had a little video game station setup in my large closet and I'd often play games with some friends I had back then, including some Mario Kart 64.
To this day, I own Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart: Double Dash, and Mario Kart: Super Circuit (3DS VC). |
