Default Refurb 3DS XLs from Nintendo? Yes, you heard it right.

Refurbished 3DS XL handhelds available from Nintendo starting at $169

(First time Nintendo bundling 16 GB SD cards?)

As usual, Nintendo refurbs come with full warranty.

Think this might be a good time to go XL for those that don't have a 3DS yet?

The only time I ever see that a 3DS XL is going to NOT be a waste of money is if you're going to use the 3D flipnote. That's just my opinion. But it seems like Apple talk, "Hey! Why not take our device, make it work exactly the same in every way... and make it bigger!?".

A PPI of 133 and a screen size of 3.5" for the top screen can be a bit on the small size, especially when you're also playing games for the Nintendo DS and wish to obtain the highest quality visual output (by playing in 1:1 pixel mapping).

When the PPI goes to the thereabouts of 96 PPI, it's much more easier on the eyes.

Also, much better build quality and sunlight visibility (AR coatings do help, as well as uncapped brightness).

What really sells the 3DS XL to me (and what sold the DSi XL to me) is longer battery life. So there's that. I'll definitely have to check this out.

I'm (mostly) fine with my original 3DS. I'll probably pick up a highly-reviewed battery once school starts back up to satisfy my battery woes.

I don't want an XL I can barely fit a regular sized one in my pocket.

Oh man that price D: Everything's so cheap in the US...

I dunno if Nintendo are doing this in Europe, but either way I'm still waiting for the X/Y 3DS XL. It's really cool that Nintendo are doing this though, more money for everyone involved!

Third-party batteries tend to make the system's battery meter not work correctly in the sense of "you now never know when it's dying since it can hold it at critically low for an hour instead of 5 minutes".

Oh man that price. Oh man that 16 GB sweetness. If I didn't hate the XL then I might actually consider it. If my 3DS ever dies and I can't find a purple replacement I'll have this in mind.

Though... there's still the problem of extreme stretching on regular DS games...

Less of a problem with the 3DS XL when playing at 1:1 since the pixels should be as big as on a DSi = perfectly acceptable.
