HTML5 vs Flash: Which would you choose if you could?
Let's say that you have the choice to pick between the two. What would you use?
Criteria | HTML5 + CSS + JavaScript | Adobe Flash |
---|
Compatibility | Emerging standard supported by modern browsers and many mobile browsers; workarounds exist for older browsers | Time-tested browser plug-in based rich application that has almost perfect computer support, but spotty mobile support; mobile support EOL | Ease of use | Easy to implement for simple tags; advanced apps like games need to have extensive work, has to consider for browser differences | One size fits all, easy to use and program, but limited choice of tools | Performance | Very high across all supporting devices; consistency concerns | Mobile devices may be not up to task for intensive graphics, consistency is very high otherwise | Complexity | Can end up as a mishmash of HTML5, CSS and JavaScript; tag soup may occur if not carefully handled | Everything can be done in a Flash authoring application |
