Default monarchs or presidents

born to lead (so they say) or elected?

In my opinion i would say elections even though i live in the uk with our useless queen and muppets for kids.

This is my opinion mind you but all she does is sit on her backside and do nothing while feeding those rats that she thinks are dogs, the newspaper did an article on her and her dogs and they went through what she feeds those dogs, 6-7 course meal for dogs -_- really while the people are struggling to feed themselves, annoys me.

and those princes, prince harry what a joke, he joined the military and after 2 months made officer, i know alot of people in the military and even they agree that is favouritism, people in the army go for years before making officer rank and he gets it in 2 months then gets posted to the backside of the Iraq and is then called a hero for driving a bike and shooting at air.

he was even caught on camera being racist to another soldier and they told him to say sorry that was it, while a person a few months before hand was arrested for saying a racist remark.

it's a joke hence why i think we should elect someone, and dont even get me started on the banks at the moment someone i know had a Ł2400 bonus and the "tax man" collected Ł1400 of it i fell off my chair.

as you might have guessed by now i hate the monarch with a passion =3

give me your views.

Although democracy has been promoted and talked about by most presidents these days, and in some cases, larger countries trying to enforce it in other countries as well, I started viewing that the well-being of a country doesn't depend on the system it is following. It depends on the rulers, whoever they are.

Even if a country has an elected president, if that president is bad, then he would harm the country, more than benefit it. He might even play around to make sure that in every election, he would take part in the government. On the other hand, a monarch could be good-natured and benefit his country more than any other president would in years.

If you are frustrated with your country's situation, then it is not the system to blame, but the person who is ruling.

A democratic system is far better than a monarchy, generally. A monarch inherits leadership whether they know what they're doing or not, while a president or prime minister has to make sure they know what they're doing to be elected. The monarchy here in the UK doesn't have nearly as much power now, and this is probably the reason why.

I do not really have a problem with the system, just the person ruling the country.

I also agree with you about electing a corrupt official means that the country will only get worse but not all people that are elected are corrupt, right?

but being elected by the people must be better than someone just walking into leadership who knows nothing about ruling a country (in my opinion) but then again the government is not the best either and if she was doing her job she would have stepped in and done something, but as long as she gets what she wants why would she care.

I also agree with ningamer the queen doesn't have much power any more but really that just reinforces why we should get rid of the monarchy system because really all she is now is a figure head.

That's a decision between tyranny and mob tyranny. Republics have more function and better protections.

As an Englishman, I honestly don't mind our Constitutional Monarchy whatsoever- in fact, I support it.

Lot's people complain about it for the reasons already stated... but they only see one side of things- the political side, and neglect seeing the bigger picture. Sure, the Monarch doesn't affect policies or politics in general any more- there are elected officials for that, after all. But to those who say the monarchy doesn't have power, they'd be wrong. There is a difference between having no power, and choosing not to use it- our Monarchy is more so the latter. The royals control a vast quantity of land in our country even now, the banks, and hold claim in various businesses and operations that we may take for granted. If we simply dissolved them, these would be thrown into chaos, both short-term and potentially long-term if things cannot be agreed or settled.

And our Monarchy does, in fact, provide service to it's people and it's country despite what many claim of them merely sitting on their backsides. This being diplomatic missions- they visit other countries, boost morale in our lands, and generally become the face of Great Britain as they've always done. And with visits to other countries, this is ever more important as keeping good bonds and relations with other countries helps create and reaffirm trade links and political standings- things that are ever more important with the advent of globalization. We could send our Ministers of course, but they'd have nowhere near the amount of good standing and memorability to other countries as the Royal family.

Really, the United Kingdom's form of democracy is one of the longest standing, lasting for hundreds of years and still going pretty strong and well- so why change it? It's part of our history and culture, which is one of my favourite things about my homeland, so you're damn right I want it to stick around and prefer it to the ideas of replacing it with a more American or European democracy.

I am American, and I say neither. We need a Socialist leader who is smart and not quite tyrannical.

All the candidates in America these days are just terrible, and either way, quite frankly, we're going to all be under the rule of some wannabe fascist.

I think Obama is a screw up, and Romney is equally crappy, but in different ways.

I'd rather have a Communist Dictator for life (preferably myself, as I think I'd fit the role perfectly. I'm serious) than someone who has absolutely no idea as to what it is they're doing.

In short, I'm sitting out every election for the rest of my days, because I'm totally screwed no matter who wins or loses.

is this thread still being answered =3

I just have to say though, in concern to paradox's answer, if the monarch has the power yet wont use it the dont deserve the power, there is a new law coming into action in 2013 that allows certain countries to emigrate to the Uk without a visa, but after being in the same job for 6 years only to then be "let go" because there was someone who could do it for a cheaper price (and i am not being racist so dont get me wrong, but the person who replaced me was an immigrant).

Most of the people i used to work with have not been "replaced" by people who could do it for cheaper and passing this law will make even more people unemployed (I used to work in the construction industry but now in University because of lack of choice) so what i am saying is if the queen could stop this she should, and as you said if she has the power she should use it to stop this law from being passed.

anyone else think this is right or wrong??

ready, set . . . DEBATE! =3

That is a completely different topic though, as it doesn't concern monarchy or democracy, nor Britain itself. The problem you are discussing is nationalisation and invasion of expatriates to the work industry, which is a global concern. I suggest you create another debate thread regarding this topic; it is interesting and we can discuss it there.

Well, being who I am, I would say neither, as I have a hate for all forms of government. However, I will chose Monarchs. Why? Because I want to be a knight in the Royal Army of course. Knights are cool
