My adventures in Pokémon Platinum
This topic is for discussion of my playing of Pokémon Platinum. I will hopefully keep updating this first post each day.
15 September 2008 Today, I started up the game for the first time and was wowed by the new introduction screen. Pokémon Platinum Intro Sequence.mp4 I proceeded to press Start and was greeted by ナナカマドはかせ (Professor Rowan). He gave his spiel on how the world worked and asked who I was. I put in ブイゼル (Buizel) for my name. Then my Rival's name. Hmm...how about ヨッシー (Yoshi)? I started up and began my journey. The television screen came up and said something about Kanto. I didn't really bother reading it, so I jumped in and immediately went to find ヨッシー. He was dawdling on Route 201, so I went through the beginning part to find...the professor?! Instead of a pair of wild Starly attacking, ナナカマド introduced me to the three and let me pick one. I picked Piplup, of course. ヨッシー battled me, which I won. Soon after Dawn heeded me off to ナナカマド again and I left the name of ポッチャマ for Piplup. I proceeded to train my little penguin pal. I saved the game and reset to check out the new e-mail option on the main menu. Once I got there, I was greeted with this agreement: Quote:
Fast forward, I was given a package to deliver to ヨッシー, who skipped town. I also received some Poké Balls from ヒカリ (Dawn) and picked up some Potions from the Mart. I proceeded north of Sandgem and fought a few trainers. Once I got to Jubilife, I met ハンサム (Handsome?!), who started to act strange and run away. I'm guessing he is like Scott from Emerald. I entered the Trainer School and met the rival. Save game. 16 September 2008 I received a Town Map from a shipping error and headed up to the north and battled some more trainers. Time for some new Pokémon! Starly, Shinx, and Psyduck joined the team. To the west was ヨッシー again. Time for a battle, which I won. I headed even farther west through Oreburgh Gate and arrived in Oreburgh City. Someone directed me towards the gym, where I found...ヨッシー again! Sure enough, he didn't want to battle...yet. He told me ヒョウタ (Roark) was in the mine. I headed there, battled some trainers, and met him. He returned to the gym and Piplup evolved into Prinplup, but I wanted to try something out. I pulled out Pokémon Pearl and borrowed a friend's DS. I linked the two up, which occured flawlessly. A trade, battle, and record mix went through properly. In addition, I entered some Japanese text on a mail and sent it...which was translated to English on the other end! I battled Roark and won decisively then decided to head back to Jubilife to check out the GTS! It was very similar to before, but this time it allowed you to sort by country (the country names are in Japanese) and by level group (1-10, 11-20, and so on). It also somehow knew where I was already, and when I pulled up the globe, saw the blue mark on "America: Nevada". Then I started checking out the other machines. One was a Battle Recorder! I wondered how it worked, and I saw the description mention that you could watch videos of submitted battles! Of course, I started it up and was connected to Wi-Fi. I tried a few, which downloaded instantly, and watched other people duke it out! It even gave me a first glimpse of Shaymin's Sky Forme in my own game. You can even save a downloaded battle, which you can save up to three total, including your own. Save and quit for the night. 17 September 2008 Started up and obtained HM06 (Rock Smash). After returning to Oreburgh, I had to deal with this annoying random conversation from some Galactic Grunts (likely contains errors): Quote:
Of course I found some idiots on the GTS. Some guy ("Lloyd") in California wanted a Lv. 100 Raikou for a Lv. 2 Bidoof nickamed "I R 1337?". Or some other noob ("りんぺい") in Hokkaido that wanted any Dialga for a Lv. 2 Starly. I swear these people have some wild imaginations. I also performed another mail test with Yoshi648. Here's the transcribed message: Quote:
18 September 2008 I finally arived in Floaroma, so I did the usual. First, I stopped by the Pokémon Center to get healed up and then by the shop to get some items. Some grunts were blocking the northern exit. To the east, on Route 205, were more grunts blocking the bridge. I caught a new Buizel in the grass and evolved Shinx into Luxio. The grunt in front of Valley Windworks battled me, but didn't want to let me in, so he locked the door. I returned to the area north of Floaroma to find a salesman being robbed by the same two grunts. A quick pair of battle settled the two. As thanks, he gave me ten jars of Honey. Back at the Windworks, I found a couple grunts and マーズ (Mars). It was easy getting her to budge, even though she had the fat cat (Purugly). There was discussion of a new character, プルート (Pluto). As I stepped out the door, I saw ハンサム again, who ran in and, after several seconds, came back out and ran away. I took a stroll up north and battled some trainers and trained my Luxio. Eventually, I found the Eterna forest, with モミ (Cheryl) inside. She aided me by healing after every battle and assisting through the troublesome parts. Once I got out, I ran over to a Galactic building, where I was given HM01 Cut. It couldn't be used until I defeated the gym Leader, ナタネ (Gardenia). After numerous attempts, I gave up and quit for the night. 19 September 2008 I continued to attempt to defeat ナタネ and eventually won, after leveling Luxio up to 29 and even evolving it after the battle into Luxray. I went underground and found...ヒョウタ?! Quote:
20 September 2008 I was greeted by シロナ (Cynthia) on the way to the bicycle shop. She gave me a Pokémon egg and told me I had to keep it in my party and walk around for it to hatch. Quote:
21 September 2008 Not much happened today. I just took the bike south of Eternal City and battled all the trainers there, and a Togepi hatched. Seriously. 22 September 2008 More trading today. I took Route 208 to get to Hearthome City. A couple trainers were dotted along the path, all of which I battled. Oddly, one of the berry bushes along the way was not fully grown. It was kind of strange to see the message asking about watering it. I met ヨッシー again upon exit. Oh, I did some more trading. Somehow, I got Pokérus from an EGG! 23 September 2008 Gym Leader メリッサ (Fantina) was a piece of cake. (Side note: メリッサ actually means Melissa.) I passed along Route 209 (awesome music) and battled a few more trainers. The tower towards the end was also pretty interesting. I climbed it, only to find an pair of old women at the top. At least there were some free items and trainers along the way. A trainer in the Pokémon Center of Solaceon City wanted to battle, oddly enough. He only had a Pichu and a pair of Pikachu. (Yeah, it was a Pokéfan dressed as Pikachu.) I later realized that this happens every day in every Pokémon Center. A new trainer (or pair of trainers) will appear to battle. I passed through the ruins and collected a few items, like stones and HM05 (Defog ), but not ONE wild Unown battle! Also, the sign at the bottom says the exact same message as the one in the animé (the ENGLISH animé). I took Route 210 and 215 to the north and evolved Prinplup into Empoleon! 24 September 2008 I started the day off with some more training, leveling up Empoleon, Luxray, and the lowly Starly. I eventually arrived in Veilstone City and went on a shopping spree, buying lots of stuff from the galleria. I also obtained a Coin Case for usage in the Game Corner. (We all know it's a rigged casino!) Oddly, one guy in town spoke in English! Quote:
25 September 2008 I went back to Veilstone City and wandered to the gym. However, マキシ (Wake) was waiting at the door, along with ヒカリ! Anyway, I entered the gym. What a change it was! This time, it was an actual fighting dojo, complete with rings, punching bags, and weights. Navigating was a total maze, as you had to hit the bags in the right direction and weave your way through the trainers. スモモ (Maylene) was waiting at the end for me. The battle wasn't very difficult; even her Lucario was a cinch. As I left, I saw ヒカリ again. Anyway, I had to battle the Galactic grunts again by the warehouse. And I saw ハンサム again! He led me inside and pointed out HM02 (Fly) on the floor. I picked it up, taught it to Staravia, and flew off the Pastoria City. Yet another gym battle, this time with マキシ, who has a crazy-looking Floatzel. I flew back to Hearthome City and headed south this time. In the mansion, the woman on the east side wanted to battle. I had to battle five maids in a row, then I would get some kind of prize. A surprise guy came out and I had to battle him. The prize was a Soothe Bell. 26 September 2008 I received the SecretPotion from Cynthia to relieve the Psyduck of their headache. Of course, I headed straight there and pushed 'em out of the way. The area required Defog, so I taught it to Staravia and blew the fog away. The area was littered with trainers, but it wasn't any difficulty getting them to subside. Canalave City was ahead, along with Cynthia again, in front of the cave. But アカギ (Cyrus) was inside. Of course, I had to battle him. That was as simple as pie. I was then given HM03 (SURF!!) and sent out. I traveled west, battled a few trainers and saved. 27 September 2008 I had only about 10 minutes to play the game today, so I just battled a couple trainers. That was it. 28 September 2008 Again, not a very interesting day. I did download the key from Wi-Fi that allows access to the Rotom room. 29 September 2008 Much of today's feature was broadcast live through a webcast. I started out by teaching Surf to my new Buizel. (I traded the other one away.) I trained it up to level 26 to evolve it into a Floatzel. I then headed west from Jubilife into Canalave City, where I met my rival again. The battle wasn't too difficult, but his Torterra actually proved to be a pain, as I didn't have anything to really counter it. I met トウガン (Byron) in his gym of steel types. The gym was somewhat challenging. As some people pointed out on the webcast, I got stuck and couldn't think of what to use. 30 September 2008 Another simple day. I didn't get much accoomplished, but I managed to wander around for a little bit and go up north to Route 216. 1 October 2008 Today was a pretty basic day. Almost three hours were spent doing Wi-Fi battles. The rest of the day was spent going north through Snowpoint City and defeating スズナ (Candice), getting my my eigth badge. The lake now required Rock Climb to get up, which I had gotten just prior. Lots of goods were buried in the snow! I followed the Galactic grunts and bosses around until I finally broke into the Galactic Hideout in Veilstone City. 2 October 2008 I infiltrated the Galactic Hideout and watched a new "cutscene" in which アカギ gave a speech to a crowd of Galactic grunts about what the mission is. ハンサム was there to help me out. I eventually made it up to him, along with サターン (Saturn), winning both battles. I had to release the legendary trio from the lab. I headed up Mt. Coronet and saved halfway. 3 October 2008 http://cdn1.ustream.tv/swf/4/viewer.34.swf?vid=759721 Torn World, Giratina, and some Galactic battles. I'll let the video speak for itself. 4 October 2008 Today was the eighth gym, Sunyshore City, and the terribly annoying Victory Road. 6 October 2008 I fought the group of pushovers, the Elite Four. I noticed that all the rooms are new designs (much better than before). シロナ (Cynthia) was a real pain, but I managed to pull through. After the credits rolled, I flew over to Snowpoint City and took the boat to the Fight Area. The water on the way was filled with large ice plates. The new Battle Frontier looks quite nice, but that's all I really got to see. 7 October 2008 Today was TWO hours spent catching Uxie and Azelf. In one of the battles with Uxie, 65 turns passed, then Uxie used Struggle, knocking itself out. 10 October 2008 I completed the Sinnoh Pokédex and caught Rotom! Now, the new areas open up and I can access Route 225 and 230. I also played a around with the Battle Recorder some more. 21 October 2008 Today was an interesting day. This was the day I finally traversed Stark Mountain. Most of the time through the mountain, I kept Floatzel at the head of my team, flattening all the fire- and rock-type Pokémon. プルート and some other Galactic grunts were at the end, waiting. Sure enough, ハンサム was there to tell 'em off and act funny. I had to return to the Survival Area and meet with バク and his grandfather. He returned to Stark Mountain, and I followed him there. At the end was Heatran, who was a cinch to capture. 24 October 2008 I passed over Route 229 and got to the Resort Area, which was redesigned. Heck, there was even a building just for me! Some items were for sale, but they were even higher than real-world prices (in yen)! Some of the items included a high-definition television, an audio system, a personal computer, a night table, a plant, and a bookshelf. A list of the prices: Quote:
4 November 2008 As an Obama-McCain election special, I put up another broadcast, this time showing off the capturing of Dialga and Palkia! Before the battle, I used that key I obtained on the Eterna Rocket Hideout. Sure enough, there were five items back there, each of which transformed Rotom into one of its alternate formes. I finally decided on the Cut Forme, which looks like a lawnmower. It was actually a pretty interesting broadcast, as I caught both of them within a decent amount of time (about 20 minutes). People cheered during the whole thing, and it was actually loads of fun! In case you missed it, here it the highlight of the broadcast: After that, I released the three legendary Kanto birds. (Thanks, Oak!) FIVE runners were roaming around Sinnoh: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mesprit, and Cresselia. 7 November 2008 I caught three of the runners (Articuno, Mesprit, and Cresselia) today, all within a 20-minute time period! Lots of Quick Balls, many Super Repels, traded event Darkrai, and a new Dugtrio were used for it! Later in the day, I caught Moltres. 9 November 2008 I went to Toys 'Я' Us today to get the event Dragonite. It worked fine with Pearl and Diamond, but as you could guess, it did not work with Platinum. Last edited by Cat333Pokémon; August 27, 2013 at 04:22:58 PM. Reason: Updated |

Re: My adventures in Pokémon Platinum
Pssh, I like to think of Munchlax and Buizel as a team, both cute, one fast, one slow, one skinny, one fat. But both effective. See the connection there? Which is why my team has a Munchlax AND a Buizel.
Let me know when you catch(or hatch) a Munchlax, BTW. |

Here you go: (: Actually, I knew how to catch Rotom from when I caught it in Pearl. I later downloaded the key, read that little insert, and then found out where to use the key to get the various formes. |

*is excited*
Of course, if you choose to upload the videos later to YouTube, the commentary will make absolutely no sense without the chat as context. But that might make it more entertaining. |
