Just did this in Engie class, as I call it. Yay for substitute teachers...I guess.
James D 10/5/2010 Period 7 Chapter 11 – Manufacturing Processes Vocab 1. Casting: A metal object produced by pouring molten metal into a mold. 2. Forging: A metal shape produced by hammering heated bars or billets of metal between dies. 3. Welding: To join two pieces of metal by means of heat, with or without the application of pressure. 4. Pattern drawing: A drawing that gives only the information needed in the pattern shop 5. Pattern: A model, usually of wood, used in forming a casting. 6. Shrink rule: A rule used by a patternmaker. The units of a shrink rule are slightly oversized. 7. Lathe: A machine used to shape metal or other materials by rotating against a tool. 8. Turning: To produce, on a lathe, an external cylindrical surface. 9. Knurling: To impress a pattern of dents in a turned surface with a knurling tool to produce a better hand grip. 10. Drilling: To cut a cylindrical hole with a drill. 11. Reaming: To enlarge a finished hole slightly to give it a greater accuracy. 12. Counterboring: To enlarge an end of a hole cylindrically with a counterbore tool. 13. Spotfacing: To produce a round spot or baring surface around a hole, usually with a spotfacer. 14. Countersinking: To enlarge an end of a hole conically, usually with a countersink tool. 15. Shaper: A tool in which the stock is held in a vise. A single-pointed, non-rotating cutting tool similar to that used in the lathe cuts as it is forced forwards in a straight line past the stationary work. 16. Milling machine: A machine with rotating cutters. The workpeice (usually metal is fastened to the table and fed against the cutters. 17. Grinding machine: Removes a small amount of metal to create a very fine, accurate finish. 18. Surface broach: A tool that machines a surface by being forced through or across the work. Each succeeding tool bites deeper and deeper until the final teeth form the required hole or surface. 19. Heat treating: To change the properties of metals by heating then cooling. 20. Rapid prototyping: Any one of several processes by which a 3D CAD drawing is used to directly generate a physical model of an object. |

Ehe, well today I have to finish a story about my weekend for English class, and so I'm sneaking some stuff in to that paper about my favorite cars because I went to a car show. I can post the paper after we type it on Thursday and Friday.

Quote:
y - (-3) = 2 (x - 6) Now with this you'll see that it's a negative times a negative, making a positive, on the left side. The right side is easy distributing as well. You'll end up with this. y + 3 = 2x - 12 And now you just subtract 3. y = 2x - 15 So yeah, that's what answer I got before. The negative thingy was probably confusing. :u Really I'd need a picture of the actual problem in the book to confirm this or something. Can't you tell I'm bored? |

Heres A Fitness quizz and the study guide we used for it today!.............Thank God we Didn't have to run 5 miles again..
Lesson 1: Cardiovascular FitnessFor your body to make cardiovascular gains, you must take part in aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise increases your heart rate and increases the circulation of oxygen through the blood. In addition to promoting a healthy heart and circulatory system, aerobic exercise has other benefits. It increases lung power (by increasing the amount of oxygen being supplied to the heart and lungs). It increases bone strength. It even releases endorphins – brain chemicals that are natural mood-boosters. Certain aerobic exercises stimulate the cells that strengthen your bones. These include walking, running, tennis, climbing stairs, and aerobics. In general, if you’re standing up while working out, the activity helps with bone building. Aerobic exercise needs to be maintained for a minimum of 20-30 minutes to reap cardiovascular benefits. With all the different types of exercise, you need to know if you are working hard enough to make these gains. 1. How long should aerobic exercise be maintained? 2.Which aerobic exercises stimulate the cells that strengthen bones? 3.What increases Lung Power? 4.What are Endorphins? |

I did a lot of stuff today.
First of all, I have this Physics problem that I need to solve: If a faulty thermometer reads 5 degree Celsius when placed in pure melting ice, and 120 degree Celsius when placed in steam, (a) Calculate the correct temperature if this thermometer reads 90 degree Celsius. (b) Calculate the reading of the theremometer if the correct temperature is 40 degree Celsius. Now I answered part A as 73.9 and part B as 46. I am still not sure, so I have to ask my teacher tomorrow. If anyone who takes Physics or Maths and can solve it before tomorrow, then I am grateful. I also did a Chemistry homework about oxidation and reduction. I have some stupid art I did in the same business book of AnathemA because I am always bored at this period. |

In ICT we've been planning out our course with a funky table. I have one extra space at the bottom, which would be the last entry right at the end of the course, but I have nothing to fill it. Instead of leaving it blank, I put this in the task column:
"Make the correct party escort submission position decision." And then this in the notes column: "There will be cake" |

Nothing much today. I answered a couple of questions regarding redox reactions in Chemistry, and I memorized some stuff for my Religion/Theology class. I still need to complete a good amount of write-up in Business, but that's for Sunday, so I do not need to worry. Also, I'm going to try my best not to think about the 4 tests which we have next week. =/

I need to make a poem for my English Literature class about the theme: "The loss of a beloved person". There should be four quatrains, and the rhyme scheme should be ABAB. I might use a poem which I wrote last year about the same topic, but I'm not sure about it.
Other than that, I need to study for the upcoming Literature test (on Sunday) and Business test (on Wednesday) during the weekend. Last edited by Shadow; October 7, 2010 at 08:32:20 AM. |

I currently have to write an essay on how a certain quote relates to me in a situation. The quote was, "Sometimes, It's better not to do something alone while doing something in a crowd that may endanger you."
It was from a book about War, isn't a surprise. |

I had to study for a test tomorrow, and it took me about 45 minutes-1 hour in total to finish. I also had to complete an essay in English Literature which compares two characters from different stories. Lastly, after doing an experiment on electrolysis today during Chemistry class, we were assigned to draw a diagram of the apparatus and describe any observations we made.

In Science class we're memorizing the Periodic Table of Elements... in French. It's not hard at all, I even enjoy it. I'm really good at memorizing their symbols, since they either go along with their English names, French names of Latin names, two of those languages I'm somewhat of an expert at.

I need to study for the upcoming Chemistry, Biology and Physics test next week. I'm already done with Physics, and since I find Chemistry the easiest, I'm only going to study Biology in the weekend. Besides all this, I have to make a somewhat hard essay for English Literature, explaining how the drama is developed in a certain passage of a short story called "The Taste of Watermelon" by Borden Deal.

I have to write a 6-10 page essay on a matter of improvement within my major. Everything stated must be cited, no personal opinion allowed. The essay is to be handed in with a memo of transmittal, executive summary, title page, table of contents, references (minimum of 10), and appropriate appendixes. Research must include a student survey, and interviews of professors are preferred.
It's due this Tuesday. I've got 3 1/2 pages, all 10 references (2 of which are professor interviews not yet completed) and all the fancy extra stuff except the executive summary and a finished TOC. I then am set up for December 2nd to give an oral presentation on it. A power point covering all the basics of my findings is required, plus an extra visual aid is also required. The presentation is supposed to be exactly 7-10 minutes long. No more, no less. Every um or uh is a dock in points as well... In total, it's about a 15 page research essay of regurgitated facts suggesting an idea to improve my major that is guaranteed not to happen, which I then have to present to a classroom full of students who couldn't care less about anything that I have to say. fun fun fun... Oh, and don't forget about all the other final projects I have to do on top of that. That one, however, is the worst. Last edited by Flare Soru; November 20, 2010 at 12:31:02 PM. |

I just remembered I had to do my after-school program homework too, which my math is actually a few months ahead of my school.
Here's some questions I had: 1. Find the roots of the quadratic equation and obtain their sum and product (α+β and αβ) x˛-2x-8=0 x˛-7x+5=0 3x˛+2x+5=0 ax˛+bx+c=0 2. Use the two given roots to obtain the quadratic equation. α=3+√5, β=3-√5 α=2+√3i, β=2-√3i α=2+3i, 2-3i 3. Given that the quadratic equation x˛-3x+1=0 has 2 different roots, create a quadratic equation, so that each of its roots will be 1 more than the corresponding root of the given quadratic equation. 4. Given that the quadratic equation x˛-12x+k=0 has the roots α and α˛, first determine the value of α and use that to find the value of k. We're doing quadratic equations in maths right now! I'm finding it fairly easy so far.
Factorising the first question there would give: (x+2)(x-4) That's the kind of stuff we've done. I don't care if the question asks something different, I'm factorizing the damn thing anyway. |

Ah, that is very easy. We reviewed on that and then learned more extensive ways to do things with them a couple weeks ago. And the answer is x(squared)-2x-8 of course

Here's how the first problem is actually done: x˛-2x-8 α+β = -b/a = -(-2)/1 = 2 αβ = c/a = -8/1 = -8 So the answer to the first problem would be: α+β = 2 αβ = -8 It's supposed to be helpful in graphing or something. >_> |

I've got a Science test tomorrow on some things about the Periodic Table of Elements and all about physical and chemical reactions.
Then I've an oral French test on some phrases (LOL they are so easy!) Here's an example: Mind your own business = Occupe-toi de tes oignons (If you use Google to translate that even though I just translated it, it literally means ''Take care of your own onions.'' Weird, eh?) Quote:

1- Since we recently started the Shakespearean play "Julius Caesar" in English Literature, we have an assignment to paraphrase a conversation between two characters named Brutus and Cassius.
2- As a practice for the mid-term English Language exam, we have to complete some answers for a past paper in our copybooks. This includes two, one-page long questions: the first is about language awareness, and the second is a summary of two different passages. 3- I need to complete my personal Physics revision for the mid-term exam which is just around the corner (next Sunday). |

Lets see...
-My Oral presentation on the paper I mentioned earlier (powerpoint is done, but I gotta practice) -Finish my Final Website for Web Design -Take a whole crap-load of 50 question practice tests I didn't get done earlier (did 14/18 today...it hurts your brain) (yea, I should've took them earlier...leave me alone ) On Top of that... Next Week is finals week I have 5 classes, so that's 5 finals. (1 is just a "last test" instead of a "final" ) Plus, I have 3 tests to take THIS week... 8 tests, 4 of which are comprehensive, for 5 classes. And I have to study for all of them. But oh boy, We'll be done for the year after that! if only the year took longer than a month to end... ._. Then back to classes straightaway on the 3rd. Wait...Sunday?!? That would cause an outrage here if we had to do any sort of school (aside from homework) on a Sunday. Last edited by Flare Soru; November 30, 2010 at 10:00:55 PM. |

Lately I've been completely overwhelmed with projects, tests and homework because our 2nd term reports have to be in soon. I had an English commercial due yesterday where we had to create a project then make a short fake ad to advertise it. My group did fairly well, but we're waiting to see our mark. In French class we're creating boardgames that have minimum requirement of 70 questions about the French language and conjugation, etc... That happens to be due Friday and we're almost done. For Science I have an overdue Power Point (that's what you get for not having PP at home and the teacher giving no in-class time) on space and stuff... It's not hard, I just have other priorities. Oh and I have a test tomorrow in Science which I haven't studied for, but I never study.

Have a look at OpenOffice.org. It's like Microsoft Office, except it's free. It's very similar, but a little different and I don't think there are quite as many features... It can also save files as Microsoft Office documents, so you can use them at school and stuff.

I have an ICT test on Sunday. It is about MS Access. It should be easy, except the formulas that are really confusing. On the same day, I have a Maths test. It shouldn't be hard as long as I revise properly. On Monday, I have Business and Biology tests. The Business test is about Marketing Mix: Place while the Biology test is about the Nervous System and the Eye. On Wednesday, I have a Chemistry test about Reversible Reactions and Metals. So yeah, it is going to be a week packed with tests.

Somehow, I feel like the things I'm doing in math at my after-school program are all variations of something incredibly simple, made more difficult. For example:
Determine the value of the proportion (bc+ca)/ab = (ca+ab)/bc = (ab+bc)/ca if a) ab+bc+ca ≠ 0 b) ab+bc+ca = 0 To work a... 1. Make (bc+ca)/ab = (ca+ab)/bc = (ab+bc)/ca = k 2. Create these 3 equations: bc+ca=abk ca+ab=bck ab+bc=ack 3. Add all three equations together: 2ab+2bc+2ca = abk + bck + ack 4. Simplify: 2(ab+bc+ca) = k(ab+bc+ca) 5. Divide both sides by (ab+bc+ca): 2 = k 6. Substitute the value of k into the proportion: (bc+ca)/ab = (ca+ab)/bc = (ab+bc)/ca = 2. To solve b... 1. Form three equations from ab+bc+ac = 0: bc+ca=-ab ab+bc=-ca ab+ac=-bc 2. Substitute them into the proportion: -ab/ab = -bc/bc = -ac/ac -1 = -1 = -1 3. Add to the equation: (bc+ca)/ab = (ca+ab)/bc = (ab+bc)/ca = -1. That's about the gist of it. I don't see how this helps me any. XD Last edited by GrassPokemonFTW; March 11, 2011 at 06:51:26 AM. |

I need to copy the work which I missed on Thursday due to the debate practice. Other than that, I need to revise for the Maths test tomorrow. I don't really have to do anything for the practical ICT test, which is also for tomorrow, but I might take a look at the formulas in queries/reports (Microsoft Access) to fully understand them. It shouldn't be too hard.
