I personally still use a mousepad with my desktop, even though my mouse that I use doesn't need it I feel that it still provides it with a nice surface to be used on and therefore I know it will work better. Plus there is a little resistance to moving the mouse around so it doesn't glide around uncontrollably. I have 2 mouse pads, one is a Nightmare before Christmas and the other is an old Bugs Bunny one with Bugs and Taz.

My mousepad
It just feels more comfortable to not have my mouse glide frictionlessly over a flat table. Plus, I'm sure it's easier to play FPS games with a mousepad. |

I've had this one since we used Windows 3.1. I have a few spares, though, and I sometimes bring one with me with the portable mouse. It feels much smoother in my opinion than just running it along a bare table. |
