Default PotW 4: Vespiquen

April 21, 2012

Pokemon of the week #4 is Vespiquen

Overview (From Smogon) :
Vespiquen is a rather unfortunate case. She was blessed with solid defensive stats, resistances to Fighting and Grass, and an immunity to Ground, but she also packs five unfortunate weaknesses. Rock, the most prominent of those weaknesses, is without a doubt the worst, causing the queen bee to lose half of her health if she switches in while Stealth Rock is up. Thankfully, Roost can make up for that loss of HP, and support options such as Toxic and the ability Pressure help her find a niche. She certainly demands all the respect that a queen would deserve, but keep in mind that she is ultimately just a bee, which is not the most threatening of foes.

Rules:
You can post as many movesets as you want. Just try to fit them into one post.
All movesets must be original. Meaning they must not be sets that are taken off a website.
Constructive Criticism is good, just no flaming or trolling.
Please try to be serious about the set and provide as much information as possible on how it works.

"What are your orders, m' lady?":
Vespiquen @ Bug Gem
Impish
Pressure
252 Def/200 Sp Def/52 Attack/4HP
-Attack Order
-Defend Order
-Heal Order
-Acrobatics

This set is built to utilize Vespiquen's signature moves. Defend Order makes Vespiquen even bulkier than it already is, Attack Order with the Bug Gem on it will do major damage (especially with its crit ratio being higher than normal), and Heal Order heals up the tank when the health gets low. After you've used up your Bug Gem, simply use Acrobatics if the enemy resists bug and watch that power be devastating to the opponent.

Don't speak too soon, Phantom

Venomous Sting

Vespiquen @Leftovers
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP/ 104 Spdef / 100 Def / 46 SpAtk
Ability: Pressure
Toxic
Venoshock
Roost
Swagger/Protect

This Vespiquen is a Toxic Staller with Venoshock. When the pokemon is poisoned, Vespiquen can use Venoshock to deal a ton of damage. Roost heals off the damage Vespiquen receives while setting up a Toxic. Swagger is used against Steel and Poison types, who are unaffected by Toxic. If you think Steel and Poison types won't be a problem, then you can substitute Swagger for Protect instead for more Toxic stall.
