I'm stuck between Cyndaquil and Totodile, as well. Typhlosion has always been one of my favourite Johto Pokémon, but Feraligatr is Water-typed* and is strong(er).

I will SR for 1 day in order to get a shiny starter. If I fail, I will just pick up Cundaquil and then throw it in the box and start using my team which you can see in my signature. To navigate questions, I am going to get my team from my Platinum.

If people voted to jump off a cliff, would you do it Lite?
Lol j/k. I think the reason most people might not want Chicorita is based on the fact that the design for the other two is a bit more creative in certain respects and Hoppip tends to do its job as a grass Pokemon (causing status problems and acting as a supporter). Though because I do enjoy a good challenge and a decent defensive Pokemon, I think I will go with Chicorita. It will feel more realistic training an Arcanine and Gyrados then. Plus, you can usually go a few different ways with him, so that can make a difference. It can't really be a typical grass support, but it can do other things other grass types can't offensively. In a way, here's how you break it down: Cyntaquil has pure power with a slightly lackluster move pool. You can choose to power through Pokemon with Eruption and Hyper Beam if needed and resort to Flamethrower and Earthquake to finish the job. He can't do much else when you actually have him but he's a fine choice to beat opponents before they can do anything. Totodile has a good mix of power and moves. It won't outspeed everyone, but the decent balance of power in both main stats makes up for it speed. The moves it has suit both is special and physical needs and it has a better defense then both Cyntaquil and Chicorita. Chicorita can take hits well and ends up having well-rounded stats for both of its attack stats (although more stable than totodile and its superior physical attack but lacking special attack). It can dish out statuses (though not as often as other grass types) and has a better movepool then Cyntaquil but with less power. And this is just a quick analysis of each one. Different strategies and teams can mean a number of results on what each Pokemon is meant for in a team. |

Ive always been a fan of fire pokemon.
I dont necesarily ever use my starter because i feel they can be a bit overpowered. I like using pokemon i catch. I feel a stronger bond with them. Cyndaquil was always my favorite out of these for some reason. I really like him. I know i already said chikorita but i decided to change my mind. I wont use cyndaquil but i will pick him. |

Chikorita, purely for the nostalgia factor. For my original Silver team, I started out with Chikorita, being naive. By that, I mean that I thought that gym type order would be the same. Boy was I wrong XD. I like a challenge though. It'll be fun.

Haha me too XD. After I FINALLY beat the first gym, I was like, "Ok, I beat the flying gym and things can't get worse, can they?" They did. Bugsy. Then Whitney's Miltank afterwards didn't help. And the part poison ghosts immune to tackle and body slam? Just as bad.
