On a mission to make it easier for people to capture better photos, we’ve reinvented zoom by combining our next-gen 41-megapixel sensor, ZEISS optics with six lenses and OIS. The Lumia 1020 camera zooms into the details of every shot – over-sampling the results – making your photographs sharper and clearer than ever before.
Specifications for the camera alone?
  • 1/1.5" 41MP (up to 38MP effective) backside-illuminated camera sensor
  • f2.2 6-element 25/27mm-equivalent lens
  • The entire camera module is stabilized.
  • ISO range from 100-3200, as well as auto
  • Full shutter speed control from 1/16000 to 4 seconds, as well as auto. Uses a mechanical shutter.
  • PureView oversampling samples multiple pixels from the sensor to make one bigger, higher-quality pixel. (Usually shoots at 5 MP, will always keep the original image at maximum size.)

Oh, and you also get a perfectly functional Windows Phone 8 smartphone along with it.

It's expected to cost $299.99 starting July 26th on contract over at AT&T (US provider).

What'cha think of it?

Is that a camera attached to it? It runs both well?

Ehh... it almost makes me jealous... my phone is getting pretty old... But I can't replace it.
I have to watch out for this more. It interests me more than any other smartphone on the market.

If you're a WP8 user who enjoys crafting the best possible photographs, you need to make the jump, even if you are paying a premium for the camera.

The bad: A niche device, the Lumia 1020 is $100 pricier than most high-end smartphones. The lens makes it a little bulky. Multiple camera apps are confusing. It lacks manual f-stop control and presets for common shooting scenarios.

The bottom line: Avid mobile photographers will love the Nokia Lumia 1020's exact controls, but casual users should stick to cheaper camera phones.

From OIS to an even faster lens to that add-on camera grip that nearly had us convinced we were using a "real" camera, the Lumia 1020 seems to offer a lot of potential. Our initial trials with the device's auto mode don't explore the Lumia 1020 fully; we need to delve further into the camera's actual imaging capabilities: it's here that we'd like to see what this camera can do.

But a great camera wasn’t enough to sustain the 808 PureView, and even though Windows Phone 8 is a huge leap forward from Symbian it’s still a long way behind. There are plenty of compelling Windows Phone 8 options, from the gorgeous 925 to the feature-packed 1020, but they can’t change the fact that Windows Phone 8 itself just isn’t that compelling.

Let’s cut to the chase here folks, this is hand down, without question, the absolute best camera phone on the market. It’s undoubtedly a point and shoot replacement in every way imaginable, seeing that it delivers in its features set, quality, and precision control, to capture the utmost best photos. Unlike the 808, the Lumia 1020 greatly benefits with Windows Phone’s always sprawling ecosystem, which at times might put off power users, but heck, it’s still able to please a wide audience.
...all that makes me want to, like, save up a huge chunk of my money to get that.
