: I actually really like this one, VERY few flaws and a nice structure. A
:Okay. This is not... My favorite. There were a few problems... And frankly wasn't happy with the ones you made. So you outlined with a pink that was lighter than the rest. Let me blow it up.
Here it is.
Another thing that is bad is the outline is the same as the color below. You can see that in the blow up. But all together... You get a B-. : This one is a little worse... You see the black. Well it just cuts off and it doesn't look good like that. So that's bad. Again you out lined with the light colors. Also... The left arm was off. There is space where it should have been arm and it was air. You should have put the arm farther back behind it. C+ Averaging your get a solidB. That isn't what I expected out of you I dont want to pass you with that. But I wish that you do better in the future. I think that you could. PASS So note that a C is not passing. I finally was able to find time to do these...and considering I was hard-pressed on figuring out what to do, I took my time.
Meowth Tabby Cat: Personally, I think this is the cleanest, and I personally had a little fun with the brushes. GL Magcargo: Probably the least clean one, but I couldn't think of anything creative, and I just couldn't find the right shade of green to use for the body... Earth Lunatone: It was incredibly hard, but it was fun to make. Probably my most detailed sprite so far. Last edited by Cat333Pokémon; August 21, 2012 at 05:54:40 PM. |

GRASSS!
So you came back Glad to have you back. Meowth Tabby Cat: You are right, this one is really clean. It has nice, clean, stripes. I can tell you didn't use a regular pencil for it XD The lines blend in because of that, that is how I tell. So that is good and wont be that bad. The thing that is a little bad, but not something that I should/can punish you for is that the lines are very abundant and close together. But like I said it is really good. A GL Magcargo: This one is less clean. The top of the bottle (I guess it is a bottle) is a little attached. That isn't that great because that means, like, it looks like you just pasted it on there and didn't even blend it more or make it look like it belongs there. Another thing is that this is just recoloring, so in the future use less of the attachments. But using small ones or ones that will be cleaner are okay. So this one gets a B for the unclean structure. Besides that it is pretty good. Earth Lunatone: When I look at this I think of the word "Grainy". It is really fuzzy and bitty. It is like you saved it to something bad! So if you can find a better version of this then that would be better to grade but if not than I will just do it now. The beak (or whatever it is XD) is really black and out of place. So that should have been fixed. The parts that are green look really good for land. And so does the blue water. If you wanted to get more into it you could have added icy terrain or clouds. The green is not that different from the light blue. It kinda blends in. But when I try to see it without the grains I see... A B-. Now my advice to you is; Use less add-ons; Make sure it is clean and well-spaced; Explore with more colors; Make sure that all outlines are good. Okay. Could you do a little better with this one? Recolor - Keldeo like any MLP. - Latias like the colors from LoZ. (So dull greys, bright and striking yellows, and forest greens.) - Drapion like a circus, which means the abstract and creative colors. And the arms like a Circus tent. (The red and white repeating colors) Yes, with the classes you have passed, you may go on to others. Last edited by Cat333Pokémon; August 21, 2012 at 05:53:50 PM. |

The basic gist of Advanced Recoloring is in this. There isn't many things that I can add to that. The same rules from recoloring (well most of them) apply in this too. Pikachu: This one's pretty easy to create your own shading with, since the shading's relatively scant in the old sprite. That being said, the shading on the bottom half of Pikachu's torso is a little off to me for some reason. It just doesn't seem entirely accurate. That's my only problem, though. III+ Chikorita: Excellently done. If you do the rest of these like this one, you'll be set. I- Teddiursa: ...Not quite the same here. The shading doesn't look like it would even fit for Gen II, to be brutally honest. You need to do some extra work on this one's body shading. IV Assignment #1.5 This mid-assignment has two tasks: 1.) Fix the Teddiursa task from the previous assignment. 2.) Growlithe Gen II --> Gen V |

I have a suggestion. Why don't you teach how to make badges? There are different types as well; one that looks like an object (raindrop) and another that kinda looks like a Pokémon. You can also teach how to add the sparkling effect on the badge.

Interesting... I honestly could improve on it too. So when I feel that I have mastered it even more than I will consider it a little more. Right now that will be something that wont happen too soon. But that reminds me that there are some other things that I wanted to be teaching here. Mugshots included in that group.

(This may sound redundant) This is good for a first one. I like the theme you picked. I think that is really went with it. What you could have done to improve is make sure that the outlines aren't too light. You did that in the hands and that looked really weird with the dark outline that was by it. Make sure the darks are dark enough. Also, make sure that the lights are light enough. Because you dont want them to be too close or they wont be that eye catching. So I see that I will have to work with you on palette making. And on the face, the lines were much too light. The original had those lines darker than the surrounding. So make sure that you stay true to things like that.
Okay. Do you have any questions? Recolor Stunky as a regular Skunk Ducklet recolored as any bird. (State the bird) Last edited by Cat333Pokémon; August 21, 2012 at 02:41:29 PM. |

Whoa, when did he post that?
tSoT : This is good. I like the cleanness of it all. The blending/merging pixels were well picked and went with it. The whole thing looked grey-scaled. So the colors are frankly bland, and you could have added a little more color. Another thing is that there was just one color that wasn't recolored. So that makes me cry. Seriously though it is good and you get a A- : I like the variation of colors and the neck thingy. I see it in the ducks here :3. I think the the feet need better outlines because the black again stands out more than anything and it doesn't seem nice like that. So darker darks. And I think that the tuft of hair that on the chest could be lighter. Because it is pretty close colored to the base. And the choice of olor for the head is a little strange but it is okay. I just noticed that there were about 0 oulines on the beak. So that is that. You get a... B Now a reminder would be to check the outlines and be sure that they aren't too light and aren't too far from black, because that is an issue. Dont be afraid to use shriller highs and lower lows. I wont be mad about that... But dont go to extremes like only using pure white and black. Now please do this and report back. Please redo the Ducklett and fix the problems. Recolor Whimsicott like ANY Flower. Last edited by Cat333Pokémon; August 21, 2012 at 02:42:33 PM. |

: Awesome improvement. The highs are higher and the low are lower. Good work. It is definitely cleaner than the last. A Honestly though, I would have made the one brown shade in the beak a little browner. : Strangely enough, the first thing I noticed is that you didn't recolor two colors in the eyes, and the mouth. That is a basic recolors thing. You have to recolor it all for it to be complete. I love the reds. They are very striking! The greens are a little too yellow. On the side of my house the roses are a little darker-stemmed. I like the ears as well. I am not going to make you do this again, as long you dont make this mistake. So I hand this B+ to you. So now I think what we need to work on is basic stuff. Recolor Aipom like Chimchar, without looking/using the actual colors of him. Recolor Voltorb to resemble a beach ball (Do NOT change its color patters. But still recolor its eyes and such.) Last edited by Cat333Pokémon; August 21, 2012 at 02:43:29 PM. |

Right-O, you're starting off in the most basic form of spriting, Basic Recolors Premise: This class is going to teach you how to recolor a pokemon's Generation V sprite with the colors of another. Purpose: To teach new spriting students the foundation on which the entire class will be based and to furthermore show how much simpler it is than it looks Prerequisite: None, really. However, you are going to want to download a new art program that will make these classes a LOT easier called paint.NET. If you go look it up, you can download it very easily. You can use MS Paint if you want, but the lack of a very useful tool will probably put you at a disadvantage. Now, basic recoloring introduces a concept that will be used quite a bit now, but not quite as much later on. This concept is know as the palette swap. As you can probably guess, the colors that make up a pokemon's sprite are called the palette. Most pokemon's palettes have between 2 and 5 colors, usually 3 or 4. The idea of palette swapping is to take a pokemon sprite's palette and replace it with another's. How do we do this? We use something in paint.NET called the color changer... STEP 1) Download the sprites of the pokemon you wish to color and the pokemon whose colors you wish to use STEP 2) Zoom your first pokemon's sprite in close enough that you can see the individual pixels. STEP 3) With your color picking dropper tool, grab the colors from this sprite and add them to your color palette (talk to me if you're not sure what that means) STEP 4) Do the same with the other pokemon's colors, but now you want to match these colors up with the first sprite's. Which colors do you want to replace with which? STEP 5) Take the color changing tool, set the Tolerance to 0%, disable Anti-aliasing, make your tool-size big enough that it envelops the whole sprite. STEP 6) Set the color you wish to replace as the secondary color, and set the color you wish to replace it WITH as the primary color. STEP 7) Just envelop the whole sprite with your tool and click, then ASODIFHAIOSYFGHA! You've changed that color on the whole sprite. STEP 8) Repeat these instructions for the rest of these colors, and you'll have it completely changed. If you have any extra questions on this, send me a VM at any time Assignment #1 This assignment contains 3 tasks 1.)First, I want you to take the colors of Dratini and replace them with the colors of Larvitar 2.)Color Yamask with Ghastly's colors 3.)Buizel <-- Pikachu Super Pichu62 Alright, seeing your experience with this, I'm going to go ahead and give you an exam to see if you can test out of Advanced Recolors. EXAM I gave this as an exam a while ago, but it's been long enough that I can probably regive it, and given your interest, I think you'll know how to handle this one.

Uh, yes I did, actually, here it is again: Quote:
Okay, time to nickname these on the spur of the moment and wonder in hindsight what prank of fate led me down this path! 1.) Flarie Pie: You took this in the right direction, but this is the one matchup that I don't quite see fitting. Since she has the simplest coloring with basically multiple shades of pink, maybe vaporeon would have done better. The execution was flawless, mind you, but the choice is something that could have improved...that and I feel somewhat forced to find SOMETHING wrong with this assignment so I don't look and feel like I'm geeking out or anything... II- 2.) Appreon: Okay, this is a better matchup, but don't feel obligated to maintain the entire shading of the pokemon. Now, this is a concept that will be a little more stressed in the later stages of spriting called "Scratch creation". It would have been nice if you had tried to put a hat on this one, but it's still recognizable. II- 3.) Glacier Sparkle: Wellidunnowhatkindamagicyouwereusingbutapparentlyi tsworkingyknowatimsayinnilanusuhfkuayshfdliaygksdl ufygbasrg I 4.) Flutterleaf: Woah, bright colors. Now, again with this whole shading can be altered thing, but in this case, only the head and tail leaves necessarily needed to be colored pink. As for the rest of them, a darker color of cream would have sufficed. II 5.) Rareon: Hmm...The idea's good, and I understand the choice on this one, but how about this: of those four earflaps that you colored purple, perhaps if you had only colored the top two and one of the bottom ones, the hair effect would have looked more similar to the actual character design. II- 6.) Rainbow Jolt: There's what we need, you very effectively altered the shading on this one for the rainbow effect, and it turned out quite amazingly. I- FINAL SCORE: II+ = PASS Now, if I'm not mistaken, SP, you're going to want to take Basic Fusions now, once you confirm this, TP will get started on instructing you. = ) |

: Wow. Great creativity. You did awesome with making and using a bushel of colors! Awesome! I like how the eyes are green but the whites of them are actually yellow. There are little to no problems. A : This is just a little less good. It has great colors, but something went wrong on the eyes. For some reason you outlined it and that made the whole thing go off. Then you made the middle of the eye a yellow. I dont get it. It is weird. Though your intentions were good. But we aren't to the part were we change the colors patterns yet. That will be later. B This one I want to be more challenging. I want it to be so you can learn more off this one. I think you are about to the next lesson of the class. That will be pattern changing. But for now work on this. Recolor - Nidoqueen to make her look like she is made of Gold, Silver and Bronze. Recolor - Torkoal so that he looks like a regular turtle. Okay, well then, looks like you. are. mine.
plasma recommended I take you, since he doesn't know much about infernoes anymore and wants you to get the best experience, and I agree with him. Okay, so first off, Infernoes are a really, really, basic form of spriting. It's pretty much just creating different layers of colors on a sprite. Sure they're simple, but they are also time consuming, so it requires some patience. So yeah, first off I'm gonna want you to take a look at the tutorial, as it will explain everything. Dratini: I like it. You've grasped the concept pretty well. II+ Yamask: Great. Not much to say here, either. I- Pikachu: Now, here's where I just have something to say. First of all, I think you misread me here, but I probably didn't quite put it correctly. I was wanting you to do the assignment based off the same order as the other two tasks, which was color Buizel with Pikachu's colors. Looking at the sprite itself, though, there's one glaring problem: I see no orange. There's blue and there's tan, but there's also orange on Buizel. Pikachu may not have enough colors to account for this, but that's where we can work with the shading. Now, we're not altering the geometry of the shading, if it calls for two different colors on each sides of a line, we still have to give it that, but you can easily make Pikachu's body both Orange and Cream. IV Assignment 1.5 This assignment has 2 tasks. 1. First of all, I want you to try Pikachu recolored as Buizel again. 2. Then, do what the task actually asked for, and recolor Buizel as Pikachu. Talk to me if you have any concerns, and I'll see what kind of advice I can provide. |

You could have done it in the joints of the knees and arms, because those has separated parts. A : Pretty good, you did well making the cloud. Sir, I just meant that I didn't want the picture that you were to send me of Dialga to have a transparent background. Wowwza! You did good on this too. It is hard to do improvement on something take doesn't need it. I love how you made the heads coming out of the head. That is cool. Is change some of the small things a little more. Just because you were using both, doesn't mean you cant move around the winds to other places or even just a little lower/high on the sprite. So maybe that is something. A Do you have any questions? BLACK CHARIZARD
Rosekazam- I do not understand how you are so good, for someone who started yesterday. I like the long nose, that is creative. I thought the arms would be a little different and without the hands, but that doesn't matter. I like the coloring on the legs. The hair is nicely placed on it. But there was something by its chest plate and its arm that bothered me. There is a pixel outline that is gone and it completely connects the chest to the hand. That is a little less clean than it should be but, like I have been saying you are a beginner. A Jumpitelle- Gee wizz, I dont know what went wrong on this one. I am actually glad that this one isn't good, because now I can help you improve. The first thing is the recoloring. That is horrific to say the least (no thing against you, and dont feel bad!). You made the highligght a white when the rest of the body is uch much darker than that, so that is bad, and not what I should expect from someone who passed Recolors. The puffs are oddly colored and I dont understand that. The head is placed on there bad. It looks like Gothitelle is standing behind it, rather than on it. And the head spikes are oddly colored. The mustache is okay, it is strand though. D So, even though a D means it needs to be redone, that doesn't mean I will make you do it. You can if you want to prove something to me, but I dont care. If I could instruct you to do something differently, it is to make sure that you like it, and that it is recolored properly. AND recolor it all, the Jumpluff being blue is bad (unless the pokemon that you are fusing it with is blue). Fuse - Kecleon with - Politoed And use Politoed as the base. This is pretty good. I like the head thing again. It is neatly put on there. You actually didn't do much to it. You oddly placed a tongue on the head... I was confused. You should have switched the tails. That would be something. Something you could have done is make the head thing look like it was actually on the pokemon. You see? If you would have taken away the outline dividing it, it would have looked more "natural". B Also, please ONLY use the sprite sheet that I gave you. I am glad you decided to take this class. It is the hardest we currently have, I will tell you now. In Advanced Fusions you try to make a new pokemon (or sort of new) from other pokemon. It sounds like Fusions from that, but it isn't. This focuses on pokemon selection and scratching. And example would be for me to tell you to make a Dark - Horse pokemon. I will give the the species of this pokemon that you will make. And then you will make that with any # of pokemon. And then I will (about halfway into it) introduce the scratch concept. You also will need to come up with your own colors for each of your sprites. So that is why it requires Adv. Recolors. Since this is hard, I will sometimes tell you 1 or 2 pokemon to use in it. I do not have a tutorial for it, so do you have any questions? Here is what I will try first. Species: Blue Jay Pokemon Pokemon to use: The basic flying types (Pidove, Tailow, Starly). Use Scratch?: NO Extras: Try to make it resemble an actual Blue Jay, as much as possible. |

Hmm, pretty good. You did well with the general concept; Fuse and recolor. It took a little for me to notice, but you changed the whole body of Starly. I like the wings that you chose. The tuft on the head is cute. So good job. Like before, a small problem was the outlines. The outlines should be a little more prominent. And maybe even changing the eyes a little would do you some good. Because right now it has a pretty blank look. A- And I am sorry that you got such an easy species. It is only your first and I didn't want to give you a Fire Breathing Penguin or anything . Surely it will get harder when I start to get specific on what types I want the pokemon to be. Now, you can use this scratching now, if you want, but it wont be required yet. Scratch is when you make a body part, a pattern, a whole pokemon, (etc.) from scratch. Like you just use your skill to make one of your own on the spot. So you wouldn't have taken it from any other pokemon. Hopefully that explains enough for now, but I will tell you more when you get halfway through the course. Please do this... Species: Cloud Cat Pokemon Pokemon to use: Obviously any Cat pokemon, Mareep/Flaafy, and Altaria. Use Scratch?: If needed Extras: Make the cat standing like Meowth (with its feet showing), and the cloud making-up/engulfing his tail, torso, and any other place necessary. |

Oooh. This is kind of fun. I like it for the most part. The end of a tail was a good idea, and the variation in the parts you used was likable. Don't venture too far from a cat, though, because the arms weren't very catlike. Another thing is it looks a little long. I sort of thought that it would look more like gatomon. Lol. Anyways. Another thing that is bad is that you duplicated the clouds. It has always been a big no-no in the school to duplicate a body part or something big, especially when it is really noticeable. So next time really avoid that. B Like I have said, eventually in Adv Fusions, the end result needs to look brand new. And I should not be able to tell which pokemon you have used (well, not that extreme). So that is something to work on. Next, do this. Species: Emotionless-Blunt Pokemon Pokemon to use: Ones you want, just remember what I said and want Types: Ghost Use Scratch?: If needed, but it would make me smile a little. Extras: Make it fairly simple. And it's body look like a draped cloth. |

PHANTOM Your warrior isn't too great. Your past assignments have been better. U didn't use any scratch like you have before. The hat and the legs confuse me. So I assume that it is a grass type. That is okay. I will start to become more specific with what you need to do. I think that you maybe could have changed it up a little more. But I do understand what happened, so I am not going to grade it. Just remember what we have done. And do what I just told you. Species: Sea Squirrel Pokemon to use: Pachirisu and anyone to make it more water like. And any other rodent pokemon. Types: Water - Normal Use Scratch?: YES Extras: Do like you did before. But dont get too scratchy. Also, remember all the things that I remind you of >>.<< Last edited by teamplasma; August 28, 2012 at 04:46:18 PM. |

You sprite is good. You should probably not make it so obvious what pokemon you used. The tail is also a bit unproportional. B Remember? I said to make it look like I cat even tell what pokemon it is from. To do that, you need to semi completely change the parts, you could even do it before you attach it. You can change the size (manually), you can change the shape, or direction. Those are the 3 basic things you that you can do to a part to make it look new. All of those require scratching. So when I say scratch and make it look new at the same time, you should do that. But scratching alone is something different. That is when you make you own part, design (color pattern), or figure with only using your own artistic skills. That is pretty basic, but hard. That is why if you aren't too great at it, you should just make that part to the side of the sprite then put it on later. You cant to that with the figure of the sprite. You must do that right on. You also cant really do that with the color pattern, but there are some ways. Anyways. That is what you need to know about those two. Next. Fill in the blanks with anything you want then do it. Species: _____ Pokemon Pokemon to use: Cottonee, _____, _____, And any fire type pokemon necessary. Use Scratch?:Yas. Especially on the ____ Extras: Completely scratch the ___ Last edited by teamplasma; August 30, 2012 at 12:51:17 PM. |

When I see the first one, the first thing I notice is the tan spot on its forehead. That would be incorrect and not right. You never put on a color in that isn't the same color surrounding. That is similar to someone recolor a green pokemon then splashing one section with pink. That looks bad :/. To fix it use this little rule: Recolor from darkest to lightest, then if you need another color to highlight a section, use the previous color. So in your assignment you would have just used that color surrounding the tan, rather than the tan. And the tail is a little strange. C The next one also breaks rules. You need to recolor EVERYTHING in a sprite. So nothing should be able to be traced back to the original pokemon, but the black and white spots. That is something major in this one, you broke that rule a few times. B To answer you question, no. You don't have to use EVERY color, but use ALL necessary, do you see what I mean? So now I want to see you do this. recolored with the colors of |

This is a huge improvement from what your last assignment was. You clearly did well! I didn't see any flaws. And good job on the color placement! A I am going to make it harder now, so tell me if it gets too hard. Shellos ---> Colored as ---> Budew Musharna ---> Colored as ---> Pansear Snubull ---> Colored as ---> Any water type. Sheldew Very good compared to that last assignment! I am pretty impressed with it, and only 2 flaws were found. The first on is that you use the same color to outline as you did on the main color of the sprite. That is okay for now and is sometimes used in normal sprites, but try to avoid it in the future if possible. The next thing is that on the line that divides the bottom from the top of Shellos, that is one coloring issue. It goes from a really dark to a really light color. That could have been avoided and was not. Though it is hard to notice that until it is pointed out, you still did good :d A Mushasear This one wasn't supposed to be that hard, just seeing if you could clearly identify and use the small colors that lay in this sprite. No flaws, no much you could have done better. A Snuking Here there is only one problem for me, that is the color selection. Most of this sprite is very good, and nothing quite wrong with it. But on the color and the spots on the body, the colors are white and dark grey. Those colors should be closer together, because it doesn't looked good when you are shading with light and dark colors, there are in betweens! B So apply what you need to fix to this assignment. - Herdier Recolored as - Servine - Alakazam Recolored as Any steel type. Last edited by teamplasma; September 24, 2012 at 02:10:57 PM. |
