Krabby/Kingler: Seafood
Miltank: Hamburgers, and dairy products Tauros: Steak Shaymin: Salad etc. I do recall them eating rice balls in the anime though, obviously they make crops and such, like us.(that, or considering how futuristic Pokemon is(well, 1969 - 1972 + super advanced technology)they might have things that make their specific food for them, without harming Pokemon.) |

yes, but as with many other shows, often things that happen or were present in a series' first season do not continue on into the later years. I always see examples from Pokemon's first (or every early) season(s) mentioned when this question is asked, as they did feature non-Pokemon animals (fish [when they were very few water types], a mongoose [before Zangoose], bunny-shaped dolls [before Buneary], etc), and as first season is usually the only one most people seem to remember, I see why it's still argued that non-Pokemon animals still exist in the Pokemon world. However, having kept up through all of the years of the anime, these visual (and verbal) references have disappeared, clearly indicating that such animals do not (or no longer) exist there, and that those earliest references were just the result of an unestablished series and world. Hm.
Well, they have to get their produce somewhere. Either "real" animals (animals like our own, normal cows and stuff, etc.) are farmed and hunted, or Pokemon are cultivated and caught for food. It's been established that Pokemon sport game is illegal, right? |

Yes it was stated by Gary's cheerleaders and Prof. Oak.
@RageOfInnocence In 'Arceus and the Jewel of Life' at the beginning scene we can see that there are many real life birds chirping and in the Japanese movie poster of 'Rise of Darkrai' we can see a real life dog in the corner. Last edited by TheRagingTyranitar; May 20, 2010 at 01:44:02 AM. |

I just checked the Arceus movie - I can hear the birds, but there is no way to see exactly what they are - and with so many bird Pokemon, there was no indication that they are not Pokemon. Background noises and blurry silhouettes are just not enough evidence. As for the Darkrai poster, I did see a poster with a dog going around, but I'm sure it was from the Kanto (don't remember if there were early Pokemon shown?) era (featured Ash and Misty, and Ash was wearing his earliest outfit)... Also, every Pokemon movie begins with the story of how humans share this world with Pokemon - no other creatures are seen or talked about. And as more Pokemon are introduced, their world becomes more complete and less likely to include or need these early 'mistakes'...... then again, I found it very out-of-place that in Pokemon Ranger, a Team Go-Rock grunt stutters and says something like "I like goat's milk...", so rarely things like that still slip by, but moreso in games than the anime these days.... It was from Sinnoh.Let me check again.
*Checks* Yes.There's been some real world animals in the show: fish, a worm, and I believe the Gastly in the Ghost of Maiden's Peak transformed into a giant mongoose at some point. Then there's the references in the pokemon descriptions and so on. That's what I found. |

...all of these episodes however are from first season (worm: "Ash Catches a Pokemon", mongoose, "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak", as stated)...some non-Pokemon fish in first and early second season eps like "The Misty Mermaid", "The Pi-Kahuna", etc...there are a few more from back in the Kanto era as well....again, the earlier they are, the more likely these ordinary animals are there to fill in the blanks (or fill up a tank or an ocean!)...I haven't seen or heard any clear references in the episodes or movies after the very latest third season, and I've seen them all... |

Well, in the game there is this myth were there was a guy killing Pokémon for food. Then Giratina came and said "Stop. This is wrong. And don't kill me or others. OR ELSE." The dude stopped killing Pokémon and Giratina left. It was the best story never told.
