Default Zoroark: Master of Illusions discussion thread (SPOILERS)

WARNING
This thread contains spoilers.
Please do not view this thread if you do not wish to be spoiled.

For the first time in quite a while, I actually felt rather sad when Zoroark died with her young Zorua by her side crying for her. I'm glad they didn't pull an "oh, she's okay," and I knew Celebi would revive her anyway. Still, I will probably remember that scene for a while; it was rather magical in my opinion.

All-in-all, I thought it was actually a very good movie and now among my favorites. It seemed radically different than the last three and showed quite a bit of foreshadowing for the new season of the anime. Zorua calling his mother "Mima" was a cute addition, too.

Here are some screenies of good scenes.

Yeah I found it quite enjoyable, except for the fact that Zoroark died, Celebi revives FTW.

This is my most favorite Pokemon movie for now! It was so cool and the best one yet! Now we all just have to wait for Victini & the Dark Hero!

I am officially very much disappointed at Cartoon Network. I seriously am.

We all know they miff the credits with an ad and put in too many of the same commercials, but they really went overboard this time.

The entire beginning of the movie wasn't aired. I knew it seemed weird not to see the "Pikachu the Movie" logo, and it makes sense now. I mean, seriously, YOU HAVE THE RIGHTS TO PREMIERE A MOVIE IN THE UNITED STATES, AND YOU REMOVE PART OF IT? WHY?! I really hope they air that bit on the Sunday showing.

I hate you, CN.

I muster up the small amount of tolerance I have to watch the anime on Saturday mornings.
...Rather, Sunday nights because I have the magic of DVR recording.

..... WTF. I had a suspicion they cut something since they didn't do the Pikachu the Movie and they didn't do the "introduction" of what Pokemon are. And I still love how not only were the commercial breaks every 10 minutes, but they had to rush through the credits to show more ads of upcoming shows WHILE THERE WERE STILL 15 MINUTES LEFT IN THE TIME BLOCK! This clip from Family Guy basically sums it up (sorry, but the crappy quality one was all I could find). Seriously, the movie itself was about 80 minutes and the time block was 120, so they spent 1/3 of the time showing commercials. Who does complain to about this?

But on the topic of the movie itself, I really enjoyed it.

According to Bulbapedia:
Ending credits song

Quote:
Ice Cream Syndrome is replaced as the ending song by a new piece titled I Believe in You.
Which means we didn't get to hear that either.

Edit: Yep, they screwed us over again today. The whole beginning wasn't aired.

Man, (in terms of the anime)Ice Cream Syndrome is my favorite anime song!
EDIT: Also, on a side note, whenever I hear that title I think of Yu-Gi-Oh/Open you Heart.

I got home to catch the last 3/4. ^_^

I noticed something though: Is it just me, or does Zorua's giggle sound like Beavis and Butthead?

Hm, it does sound a little like them, but I still find it quite cute.

Speaking of sound bytes from other movies, the DP trilogy used lots of sounds from the Godzilla series, especially Mothra, for the legends.

Touching a Zorua's tail, while it's using it's Illusion ability of a human, is a win

Also, am I the only one who noticed that when Zorua is in a human form, it's butt twitches? O.o (maybe I just pay too much attention)

The real question is why are you wataching his butt? o.0

I did notice that once his tail is grabbed, that the person gets chubby for a split second before going back to Zuroa form. (which I though was funny.)

MIMA~!

Zorua's so cute in this movie...his voice just makes me want to CUDDLE WITH HIM~! But it was sad when Zoroark died...of course I knew Celebi would revive her somehow (I <3 CELEBI)

Some of Zorua's quotes are so cute...

"Then I was put on a flying boat!"
"Then, I fell off the boat."
"Mima's Mima!"

Also, like all Pokemon villains (save for Team Rocket, they;re just comic relief), Kodai was an a**. Pardon my language, but he choked Celebi to unconsciousness and threw Zorua on multiple occasions. He's a bad man! >:U (Quoting Zorua)

I also liked the animation for Zoroark's Night Burst. It was really cool.

I finally got to see the movie, and I gotta say that I love it.
Unlike other Pokemon movies I've seen, it didn't lose my attention halfway through the movie.
The plot was interesting and I loved seeing Zorua and Zoroark in it, :>

The one thing that bothered me was the way they pronounced Zoroark's name: Zoro-ork
I thought it would be Zo-rork.

Good movie, and the whole "mima" thing was cute. It showed a nice bond between a mother and her child. :>

Actually, their pronunciation was closer to the actual one, this time around (not like the utter failure that happened in Arceus and the Jewel of Life). Zoroark is pronounced exactly how it's written, Zoro-ARK. The "A" in the "ark" part isn't meant to be combined into an "O" sound with the O right before it, instead, the two remain as separate vowel sounds.

Yeah, but the reason it's spelled that way is because it's a direct romanization of the romaji of the original name, which is "Zoroaaku". The "Zoro" portion comes from the Spanish word for Fox, and "ark", is from "Dark". The "R" is added, while the extra "U" at the end is removed, in order to properly romanize it, since the romaji is essentially just the Japanese pronunciation written with English characters.

In regards to the romanization, it's kind of a similar situation to Arceus, since it's romaji is "Aruseusu", which means that's exactly how it's pronounced, for the most part. "Arceus", is a romanization of that, removing extra vowel sounds such as the "u" at the end since they're unwritten in English, and using a C to "streamline" the name, so to speak. The original creators also explicitly stated that they come up with the names of the Legendary Pokemon to be used worldwide, which is what makes them so difficult to create. This has been the trend except for Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf. Yet, they stilled messed up the "Official" North American pronunciation by using "Are-key-us" in the dub of the 12th Movie, which was a pain in the neck since I had like a billion people commenting on my videos saying that was the official pronunciation because TPCI says so, despite the actual facts and logic proving they made a mistake. Then they'd start arguing with me about it -_-

The bit about Zoroark that Aura talked about is correct: "ZOR-ro-ark."

The thing is, there is also a North American pronunciation of "AR-see-us" in Pokémon Battle Revolution, which was recorded years prior to the 12th movie.

Yeah, the North American Battle Revolution is one of the things I'd use to explain the fact simply to people who wouldn't believe me, but they just wasted time making excuses, like "TPCI didn't decide on it back then, since Arceus wasn't released, so it was just a placeholder pronunciation."
The sheer extent to which people can be stubborn sometimes is ridiculous.

Overall, I thought the movie was a bearable, slightly enjoyable experience.
I say that because of the entire opening being cut and the credits smashed and the commercials every 10 Arceus-damn minutes.
Oh well, if I can go to the B/W Mall Tour I'll be able to see the theatrical version.

Spoilers for the ending and introduction (along with my random ranting) follow below: Please consult a doctor before clicking Show Spoiler button.

You have been warned

I just watched the Japanese ending, and I must say I am now even more disappointed with CN for rushing through it. During the credits they showed everyone that Ash + co met along their journey, including all the gym leaders, members of the Elite Four, and Cynthia. Really made me think back though everything that has happened during the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum generation (both the anime and the games). I didn't really get the feeling of "Diamond/Pearl is over, onward to Black/White" from the last Sinnoh League Victors episode, but there was something about the ending credits for this movie that gave me that feeling. Thanks a lot for leaving us out of the last 4 years of Pokémon CN.

Oh, and I also watched the introduction as well. While I didn't understand what anyone was saying, it really does help explain the beginning events. Not only that, but it showed what the Pokémon Baccer tournament was (two teams of three Pokémon attempt to get a flying top into a goal) and that would have been good timing to show that considering this aired the day before the Super Bowl. Also remember that really cute scene where Zorua was reminiscing to when he was sleeping in Zoroark's hair? That was in the introduction also.

<raeg> *censored* </raeg>

Okay, I'm done ranting. My response is also in a spoiler tag (for the same reason, as it wasn't in the aired version for those who want to wait for the DVD or see it in theaters):

Spoiler Alert:
I assumed the Pokémon Baccer bit was in there, because I had seen mention of that. And I know that scene of Zorua escaping and falling from the airship was in there too. As for the ending, *sigh*...of course it was a good ending.

So THAT'S what that sport-looking thing was in the little commercial cap that CN used.

Default First ten minutes cut from Cartoon Network premier of movie 13

Cartoon Network cut the first ten minutes of "Zoroark: Master of Illusions" in the premier, much to the dismay of The Pokémon Company International, who did not give CN permission to do so. TPCi has since been in talks with Cartoon Network and future airings will have the first ten minutes in-tact.

Good. That pissed both me and my boyfriend off to find them doing that, especially when the first ten minutes held such detail to the actual BEGINNING of the movie itself!

TPCi weren't happy about the removal of the opening: http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wik...work_movie_cut

Darn straight! I'm glad to know that The Pokémon Company was not happy to see the actual premiere of a movie ruined like this. It's embarrassing enough for them to see it like that, but...wow. More reason to hate CN.

I can tell Cat's going to be happy to see this...

CN has been mistreaing Pokemon for years. Not too long ago, the new episodes aired at 7 AM, which is one reason why I've stopped watching the anime until just recently. Finally, TPCi is stepping up and doing something about it. Now I hope they'd stop fastforwarding the credits (they still do that right? I haven't seen a Pokemon movie in a while...). I hate that!

They still fast forward the credits, which is something I hate, as well.

GOOD. >:U

Oh, hold on. Does the first 10 minutes plus the real-speed credits show up when they show it on the mall tour?

Oh nice, even Pokemon themselves were even disappointed with CN. Hopefully they also show the actual credits (though I doubt it since they seem to do that to everyone).

I thought it was weird that the movie didn't have any sort if intro. I assumed it started ten minutes early and my DVR didn't pick it up, but clearly not. What was their reason to cut the intro, anyway?

I noticed this too and it made me mad. I saw the Japanese movie where I was able to see the beginning but I couldn't understand what they were saying because I don't speak Japanese, so I was hoping to see and hear it in the American movie.

I'm not too concerned about the credits, but I'm glad the omitted introduction is going to be re-added. There were some things in the movie which needed an explanation, and the introduction had information regarding that.

I watched the movie just now. It was a great movie actually, unlike what Pokébeach said. The movie was good, and since I never knew about the cut scenes, I didn't notice that much of holes in the plot. The characters were well developed, and showed a good amount of maturity. I have to say that the antagonist was quite evil, mistreating Pokémon in a way that he was going to kill them! However, I have one major disappointment; they made Celebi SO weak! Seriously, it couldn't defend itself, not even against a Shuppet.

That's wonderful to hear, now this way the first time I see it (since I sadly missed it), it'll be the whole movie!

Wow, Cartoon Network sound like they suck. Taking out the start of the movie is like taking sprinkles off an ice cream. It's just wrong. Fortunately in the UK TPCI have given the movie to CITV, and ITV are good with movies.

Well, it's good that they're correcting that. They probably should have aired it to begin with. I haven't seen the Japanese opening, so it'll be a pleasant surprise once I do see the full opening.

They had absolutely no reason to cut it. They've got 120 minutes to show an approx. 85-minute movie, so they'll shave off as much of it as possible, and take a long, dark crap on it that is advertising for their own asinine, $#!^based programming.
Cartoon Network, despite your reruns of the good shows (Billy and Mandy, KND, etc.) and weekend airings of the anime, I dub thee Unforgiven.
Points for whoever gets that reference

I recently watched the movie and thought that it was quite enjoyable. I was wondering what the Pokémon Baccer World Cup was, and how Zorua/Zoroark got captured by Kodai in the first place, until I read the posts over here. When I had a look at the summarized plot of the movie in Wikipedia, I understood why you guys were mad. I find no reason for CN to remove the introduction, as it's not long and actually has useful background information.

I'm not going to critique Pokémon movies as if they're 'normal' movies, since the former usually tend to be more... I don't know, predictable or redundant perhaps? I can't find a good word to perfectly describe what I think of them, but that hardly matters. The bottom line is: Pokémon movies are especially supposed to be enjoyed, not analyzed. And the 13th movie does exactly that, which is why I think it was great.

I completely agree with this. I think that Kodai is probably one of the most antagonistic characters ever to be created in the Pokémon world. I don't remember any villainous person or group who tried to kill Pokémon with his bare hands, so I really liked how dark and corrupted the character of Kodai was. This also emphasizes Cat's first post: the tone of this movie was quite different from any previous Pokémon movie, so I'm looking forward to watching more movies of this kind in the future.

Just watched it for myself a few days ago. If I hadn't heard about the cut scenes, I would have almost disliked this one, for the huge plot hole and lack of elaboration on events.

But other than that, awesome movie
I'm just wondering how a little Zorua can talk, but its matured mother cant. He HAD to have learnt to do that SOMEWHERE :S

edit: Also, relating to the cut bits. I just found out I missed out a scene that showed a player character (Ethan). /rage

I blame 4kids, they suck. They ruin every english dub you can possibly imagine. CN sucks, but 4kids really messed up.

4kids didn't do anything wrong this time; it was all Cartoon Network. As AnathemA said, 4kids left years ago.

It aired in the UK last weekend, and by the sounds of things our airing was far better than what CN did in America. The network that aired our one was CITV, and they didn't cut the introduction or the credits, and kept every part in the movie. Plus there were ad breaks every 30 minutes rather than every 15 minutes, which was nice. CITV are nice. Then the following day they showed the first two episodes of Pokémon Black/White, and then showed no new episodes of it this weekend... I wonder when it'll actually begin...

I'm going to a Mall Tour stop in Lawrenceville on Sunday. I heard they have the full movie intact, including end credits, without commercials. (You know, like any normal movie theater would)
I still haven't seen the full movie beyond the first 15 minutes first 5 minutes after the opening part that wasn't shown on CN to keep most of the plot a surprise to me.

All in all, I thought it was a VERY good movie. I loved how it was one of those ones that actually got you to feel sad as hell when Zoroark died, and anger at Kodai for what he did simply to look into the future. Loved the ending, though. One other complaint is how CN cut out ten minutes of the movie that explained a lot of gaps. I read that they would show the show again, unedited, but, of course, they didn't [as far as I know].

For those of you within the US, tomorrow (4/16) at 5:00 PM, Cartoon Network will be re-airing the movie. Hopefully after the complaints TPCi lodged, the entire introduction will be shown (and if we are lucky, the credits).
