Default Las Pegasus Unicon

It appears like another brony convention has sprung up, this one in Las Vegas, NV, and it will be at the Riviera Hotel and Casino.

Three-day tickets will run $85 at the door, but early birds can save up to 40%.

The official site can be found here:

I'm definitely going.

Time for a royal bump, courtesy of Princess Celestia. Tickets are currently 24% off until early January, so if anyone is interested, be sure to pick 'em up. I ordered mine already, though.

Has anybody else purchased tickets yet?

Too bad the discount ends on the 10th. I won't know if I'm able to go or not until at least after the 14th, when the new semester starts up. I'll need to find out my schedule for all my classes and see what I can manage. I've already got the plane tickets to use before Spring/Summer 2013 (As they are refunded tickets that I need to use ASAP or waste the pricey SW-Airline tickets). The ticket price at the door is rather expensive, either way I'll miss the discount dates. But if I DO get to go, I'll still try to buy them online so I can hopefully get a badge. I've never been to a Con before, so I REALLY hope I can go as St. Lois have absolutely NOTHING... which is crazy.
I'm nowhere near popular enough to get a music panel... but there is still time. It'd be interesting to see if I could conjure up such an opportunity like that.

Just a reminder to anyone actually going to Unicon. The 24% off sale ends in one week.

Actually, this year it's being held in Baltimore at the convention center, and therefore I have a MUCH greater chance of being able to go~! I even have a friend of mine that just became a brony a couple months ago that's "forcing" me to go with him.

Cat and I picked up our badges this evening. Already a bunch of other people there picking up theirs as well. It starts tomorrow, but Cat and I will be going on Saturday. We'll be sure to take lots of pictures for you all (my album will be here).

My excitement level is over 9000 and my body is ready.

Oh man, the convention was quite awesome! It's really cool to be surrounded by lots of other folks with similar interests as you. There were lots of booths selling goodies, cosplayers, and panels with celebrities. The only thing that was really annoying was that John de Lancie and Daniel Ingram had their panels at the exact same time, so I didn't get to see both during those.

I'm going to be uploading pictures tomorrow afternoon, but for now this lovely video of a fire alarm going off should tide you over. It's like BronyCon all over again! (Mild language warning for some audience members.)

To quote Pinky: FUN FUN FUN!

Man what an awesome day that was! Here's a brief summary of what Cat and I did (all links are to pics):

What's your favorite thing about walls of text? Mines walls of text

The doors open at 9:00, we got there around 8:40ish. Quite a few people waiting around in line to get their badges and just hanging out. There was a booth up front selling Unicon merchandise where Cat and I got some posters (and the world's smallest tubes to store them in).

Finally at 9, they opened the doors to the vender hall. This a very good place to lose all your money quickly. Walking in there was this booth which had a tech demo of a walking pony (that you can move with an Xbox controller) and these very beautiful plushies. Near that was a booth selling ears, horns, and wings. Near that was a table for the Bronies for Good charity which had this large sheet you could sign if you donated. Recognize anypony on it? Next one of the most popular Pony clothing distributers We Love Fine was there giving away very awesome (and large) bags with every purchase. Near that was a booth that was mostly selling official MLP merchandise (that is Cat standing on the left). I got a poster from there. Also, most of these booths were accepting Bits play money. Another booth had these custom Xbox 360s running custom firmware. The Twilight one actually had the RROD on it. Next Andy Price (artist of the MLP comic series) was there taking commissions, signing autographs, and selling comics. I picked up a copy of each of the three issues (man, good luck to anyone wanting to collect all the cover variants). Next was this booth was selling these very adorable chibi pony plushies for $60-80 each (man I wish I had more money). Moving along there were these booths which were selling figures, mousepads, and art. And on the other side was more art and plushies. That large Rainbow Dash plush will run you $550 if you want it. I like distractions.

After Cat and I circled around the vendor booths like 10 times, it was 11:00 which was the starting time of the first two major panels (that they conveniently had at the same time..... not helping). Since they did such a good job of scheduling, we decided to split up. Cat went to the discussion with musician Daniel Ingram while I went to the Q&A with John de Lancie. The room started to fill up pretty quick. The overview I linked to gave a good recap of what happened, but it was much more fun to see in person. There were quite a few times everyone exploded into laughter (Cat in the next room said he could hear us ). Most of the pictures I got of de Lancie on stage sucked, but I got a decent one of him as he was leaving.

I'd like to interrupt this post to apologize for the next few pictures of the other panel events, my camera aint that great for moving objects.

Cat and I met back up again and circled the vender hall a few more times. Now that it was later in the day, a few more booths opened up now that people were awake. After that we walked in for the last few minutes of the Splitting Personalities starring Andrea Libman, Cathy Weseluck, Lee Tockar, Tabitha St. Germain talking about portraying multiple characters within a same episode. Following that we watched the next panel From Page to Personality featuring Amy Keating Rogers with Garry Chalk and Brenda Crichlow, Cindy Morrow with Michael Dangerfield and Maryke Hendrikse, Meghan McCarthy with Andrew Francis and Britt McKillip giving us some insight to how their characters changed from development to what we saw in the shows.

Following that, we stayed for the next panel with major voice actors Andrea Libman, Cathy Weseluck, Nicole Oliver, Tabitha St. Germain, and Tara Strong. Needless to say, it didn't take long for a line to form when they opened questions to the audience. About 15 minutes before the panel was supposed to end, the fire alarms went off (as shown in the video Cat posted) and we had to evacuate the building for a few minutes. Turns out someone decided to open the EMERGENCY EXIT ONLY - ALARM WILL SOUND doors. When we got back in most of the VAs left so we went back out to the vender hall where most people decided to have fun with that situation and have a fire sale (or is it sail?).

After seeing the goodies on sale, we sat for the second half of the charity raffle being held. Cat and I unfortunitally didn't get any tickets so we just watched other people win cool stuff. The "grand prize" was a custom made Element of Harmony for Derpy that was very shiny and even came with a nicely made box sporting the regular 6 elements.

By this point most of the venders starting closing up, so Cat and I took a little walk through the casino to see if there were any cheap food places (lolyeahright). We did see some nice old 60s-70s pinball machines and 80s arcade systems. On the way back to the convention hall, we passed John de Lancie in the hall and I got to say hi to him. It took Cat a few seconds to process who I said hi to .

We got back and sat in on the second half of the results from a research study conducted on over 24,000 bronies. Some pretty interesting stuff they found out.

Finally we went to the last event of the evening the Grand Ponylion Concert. They were still making some last-minute setups when we got there. Weren't that many people there honestly, guess most of them already had enough pony for the day. From there, many pony musicians and bands came out including The Beatle Bronies, Equestria Dude, and Pony1kenobi. Lots of people were up dancing like crazy.

All in all I had a great time. It was a long exhausting day, but it was fun and I look forward to doing it again next year.

*Oh dangit, I forgot to take a picture of all the stuff I got. I'll get a pic of that up later

Hmm, seems they are in a little financial trouble. Due to the lower then expected turnout, they are low on funds to pay off the convention and all the VAs, writers, etc who showed up.

I was a bit suspicious since it did seem a bit "empty" during the day compared to what I have seen from other events such as Brony Con. By the end of the day during the concert, there were maybe only like 40-50 people there.

One does wonder how many people didn't show up because of the recently ended season 3 and the cry-babies of OMG TWILIGHT IS AN ALICORN THE SHOW IS RUINED FOREVER I'M LEAVING THE FANDOM BLAHBLAHBLAH.

Oh dear, looks like it's even worse off than that:

Edit: Just in case Las Pegasus Unicon takes it down, here's a copy of the text from the page:

What follows are not excuses, but rather explanations for those who want to hear from ones who know.

We first wish to offer our apologies to those negatively affected by Las Pegasus Unicon. Unicon was started with the best of intentions, an attempt to provide a grand, fun event for the wonderful fandom of Bronies that we have come to know and appreciate. At no point was malice, negativity, or greed a part of our motivation. What we were guilty of was naivety. The short version of it all is that we acted upon bad advice from those we thought we had no reason to distrust, and were financially gouged by nearly every institution we dealt with. With any plan you make, allowances are made for the occasional mishap, and our plan was like this. However, we encountered not occasional, but constant negative changes throughout the stages of this convention. So many, that not only did our backups prove ineffective, but we doubt there could have been any effective backups to work, save perhaps a millionaire benefactor. Sadly, we did not have one, nor any sponsors at all for that matter. This convention was run out of our own shallow pockets, the only supplementation being the ticket sales.

Between last minute add-ons by the hotel/convention center employees, (on top of a 5 month swim through their lies and misdirections) equipment rental changes, un-authorized transportation charges, unmentioned union labor costs, and two dozen other unexpected last-week costs, our convention operations budget had been depleted. Now this is not to say that the voice actors and other MLP:FiM cast members had been overlooked. Contrary to some unfounded and untrue statements, the celebrities’ agents have all received monies from us - both prior to the convention and during. Exactly how much has been received by the agents is impossible to say with certainty. We have records of payments totalling in excess of $40,000 to the various agents. However, an unknown amount of cash was witnessed, on more than one occasion on Sunday, being directly removed by an agent of the stars from our cash box. Additionally, all monies raised by EFN’s fundraiser and all autograph sales went uncounted directly to the stars’ agents.

Clarification (2-26): When we say the money from EFN's fundraiser was uncounted, we mean to say that Las Pegasus Unicon has no record of it. This does not imply that EFN did not keep apropriate records themselves.

While at no point did we abandon Unicon, at about 2:00 AM Sunday we realized that events had escalated beyond what our experience and staff could manage, and thus effective management was transferred from us to EFNW. At this point, we were grateful for the willing assistance from our fellow Bronies and had long since discarded any thought of recouping our personal losses into a goal of giving the best time to the attendees there on Sunday. We did our best to help these more experienced folks salvage the convention, and many crises were averted with their guidance. However, when it came to monies, the hands of the stars’ agents were constantly being filled. Whether it be from autographs, auctions, or personally removing T-shirt sale money from the cash box. Due to the chaotic nature of the con at this stage of the game, and a complete and utter refusal of the agents to sign records, an exact ledger of what was received by the agents on Sunday is impossible to produce.

As some of you are aware, some attendees suffered from the questionable tactics employed, for whatever reason, by the Rivera Hotel upon their checkout - most notably, ignoring all payments made by Unicon towards their room comps and charging them full balance.

In regards to the generous Bronies who have been donating to fundraisers, we have never put our hand out requesting donations and have no association or awareness of how these fundraisers are operated or organized. They are not affiliated in any way with the staff of Las Pegasus Unicon. Thus, Unicon has no knowledge of the disbursement or organization behind these fundraisers. However, our suggestion for these generous donations would be first to go to the Bronies affected by the recent events, especially those forced by the Riviera to pay for their rooms out-of-pocket. Following this, helping the musicians who performed so admirably who may or may not be out funds. These recipients, rather than the voice actors, who have already received payment to their agents, should be preferentially compensated.

The reason that the vendor hall closed when it did was simply because the Riviera stated that, despite the convention space being paid in full until midnight well before the start of Unicon, they would be closing the doors at 6:00 PM. They then changed this to 7:00, and then finally admitted that we had paid in full for the event space. However, this confirmation from the Riviera came much too late to forestall the chaos instigated by their first proclamations. This matter we place on the shoulders of the unprofessional Riviera staff.

We are currently seeking legal counsel on how to proceed in an attempt to find closure with those financially impacted by the hotel situation, along with making our side of the story known to the community at large. The contact@laspegasusunicon.com email address will continue to be monitored and will respond to serious inquiries.

Sincerely,
The Las Pegasus Unicon Staff

Y'know, maybe this whole thing explains the purpose of the "vendor bits" here:
http://victoryroad.net/album.php?alb...pictureid=8980

Perhaps the Unicon organizers were urging vendors to use the bits as change (which ultimately forced you to either use them up by the end of the convention or keep them as a souvenir, kind of like gift cards with expiration dates) and forcing the vendors to accept them as payment as a way to pocket even more money. The conversion from bits to dollars apparently was supposed to occur at 5 pm on Sunday at the front desk, but from what I gather that had been closed before then, so many of the vendors had practically given away possibly hundreds of dollars of product for free.

Not to mention, the whole story on the Unicon website (reproduced in the previous post in case they take it down later) really looks like it's full of holes. There is no way a major Las Vegas casino would scam paying customers like that, and I seriously doubt Hasbro's agents would steal money like that. Neither of those companies would want to be in hot water, and the chances are practically zero for both of those to happen at the same event.

Some ponies didn't get paid, and some other ponies tried to do the laundry. It doesn't help that the organizers' names are the modern day equivalent of a duo being named Jesse and James.

Thanks for the spoiler bro.

What I want to know is who thought the city renowned for sin and vice(and actually proud of it) would be a good place to host an mlp con.

Here's the updated site for the donations and auctions:
http://www.laspegassist.com/

I'll chip in $10 using the direct donation thing on the left once it goes through.

Also, I believe the first wave of donations has successfully paid the VAs and other VIPs according to this video:
