Default Anime/Manga Recommendations

I think I'll kick this board off by posting this topic. Just a general place where you can gush about Anime you like and recommend them to others. It should be a good way to learn about anime other than Pokemon, hopefully.

Anyway, I'd like to first recommend a series I love called "Baccano!"

Set in the early 1930s in america, Baccano follows a group of a group of 17 plus characters in three different storylines:

The 1930 story stars Firo Prochainezo, a rising member of the Martillo camorra family. Through a chance encounter with a mysterious young woman, he and several other characters are pulled into a plot involving a group of alchemists in a centuries-old conflict over the fabled elixir of life.

In 1931, disaster befalls the famed Flying Pussyfoot transcontinental train as it makes its journey from San Francisco to New York. A terrorists, a gang of killers, and a mysterious "monster" called the Rail Tracer all threaten the people riding the train. Caught in the middle is a group of delinquents originally attempting a train heist, who take it upon themselves to save the passengers.

1932 deals with Eve Genoard, searching for her older brother Dallas following his disappearance after the events of the 1930 story. She soon becomes entangled in the rivalry between the Runorata and Gandor families, both of which also have an interest in her brother.

There are also 3 episodes following the ending, making it a nice 16 episode anime. All of the episodes can be found subbed of Funimation.com, along with the first 2 episodes dubbed, and you can also buy the entire series on DVD.

It starts off confusing but by the end of the series they've neatly wrapped up all of the plot points leading to a wonderfully told story. The music is awesome, the characters are interesting, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good time.
It does have some blood and mature themes, but nothing to bad for a teenager to watch. It's got action, comedy, and intrigue and is a fun mystery to unravel. Please watch this anime.

Naruto Shippuden is very popular and I recommend it. The anime shows the actions and voice acting, but I favor the manga because there are no sub plots and it focuses on the main story, I read online legally at http://onemanga.com or http://mangafox.com

Bleach is also very popular. Ongoing anime and manga read on the above links.
Katekyo Hitman Reborn! (Sometimes shortened to Reborn!) same as above.
Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion is finished but has an anime and a manga.
Bokurano has an anime and manga though the two are slightly different.

Claymore, Afro Samurai, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and DBZ.

There's also the Gundam series, which is awesome.

I recommend Naruto Shippuden. Since there really isn't anymore DBZ going around, I must say that this is arguably one of the best Anime out at the moment.

I must also recommend Bleach and Death Note. Bleach, I believe was supposed to be made by the same person who created Naruto or some of the people who contributed their work to Naruto contributed to Bleach. [[s:3ejkpfl3]Hence, the fact that both series have female characters whom have huge chests[/s:3ejkpfl3]].

And Death Note, probably the best Anime to look at for people who like shows that make you think and makes sense. Did I mention it gets you mentally active?

Last but not least, I would like to recommend another Anime that I have been looking at lately called Soul Eater.

Trigun, yeah I've seen it and watched several episodes. Never really kept up with it though because it was on Adult Swim and would be sent to bed early. I think it all depends on the viewer and what kind of types of Anime the person likes or wants to get into. It was an alright Anime in my opinion and is worth watching. Or at least eighty percent of the episodes I saw were.

I must agree. It isn't one of those Anime's that you'd want to go around talking about consistently. I don't care much for it at all to be honest.

Well, It's pretty good, I like some of the characters, and I certainly don't dislike it, I just am not a huge fan of it, and it just isn't one of my favorites.

Okay, I've just finished (or rather, caught up with) Mahou Sensei Negima, and I'm looking for a new series. Currently I'm thinking Battle Royale, Fairy Tail, Azumanga Daioh, Ouran High School Host Club, or Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

Never been a dragon ball fan. I never watched it as a kid. I saw the abridged series recently, and realized that DBZ is a VERY slowly paced show. It doesn't look appealing to me.

One Piece is the best anime/manga ever. But you HAVE to watch it either undubbed with English subs, or the FUNi dub.

I'm reading through Fairy Tail right now. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes One Piece. It's got a very similar feel and artwork style, while still being it's own work. I'm really enjoying it, yet to see what the anime is like.

Many anime are good
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu -- Is good, very confusing. Many genres from School life to sci-fi

To Love ru, Rosario+Vampire, Green Green -- These are hardcore, more to grown up or mature-in-the-brain audience,y'know?

Haruhi Suzumiya is great. I can't pin down its genre either, but it's one of my all time favorites. It's a darling series. I love the original story, and the rest of the episodes are pretty good too. I even loved Endless Eight.

Other than the basic anime like Naruto or DBZ, I'd like to recommend School Rumble. It's a romantic comedy(sorta) that takes place within a Japanese highschool. Funny stuff, funny stuff.

I've recently been watching Seitokai no Ichizon, currently on episode 7, and I find it very hilarious. There's a lot of anime references within though, especially in the first episode, so you could get lost, or simply not "get" the jokes.

I say watch The Big O. With only 26 episodes it's not *MUCH* to watch but it's still pretty cool.

I never really watched any animes, but I am halfway through one that I recently started called Ouran High School Host Club. It's kinda bizarre, but I like it because it's kinda funny. You can watch all 26 episodes on Hulu; there was only one season of it. Just make sure to watch it in Japanese with English subtitles, because the American voices in the dubbed version are kind of annoying.

Now that I'm done with my most recent archive binge, I'm looking for a new one. I've created a list of future titles and would like to know what to do next:

Anime
Samurai Seven
Trigun
Ouran High School Host Club
Midori Days
Azaumanga Daioh
Welcome to the NHK

Manga
Hellsing
Battle Royale

I'm reading and watching Bleach right now. Thankfully, CN has started the series over so if you start watching now, you won't miss much.

I was also shown the many differences between Manga nad Anime.

There's a few filler seasons in the Bleach anime, most of which is best avoided with the exception of the Bount arc that takes place after Ichigo goes to the Soul Society.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is absolutely, without a doubt, undeniably the best anime ever.
You should check the movies too.
And the Parallel Works.
And the Parallel Works 2.
And the OVA's.
And Viral's Sweet Dream.
And the Director's Cut Ep. 6.

ALL OF IT!!

Having finally finished the second season of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, my priorities for the summer are Trigun, Kino's Journey, and Ouran High School Host Club, I'm not sure what order to watch them in, however.

Also, I would like to once again recommend that you people watch Baccano! It's a great series that doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves. I'm posting a link to it's Funimation page on youtube. All 16 episodes are on youtube subbed and the first two are on it dubbed. It won't take long to watch and it's worth your time.

I watched Azumanga Daioh and I love it.It is a slice of life genre and has humor in it.Watching it reminds my high school experiences. If you are looking to remember your high school experiences and remember the times back then things were simpler,I recommend this anime.

I am currently reading Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. The plot looks simple in the earlier volumes and the pace is slow, but on volume 16 and beyond the plot gets complex and dramatic.I like the series (it's also in anime too) and some of the references and characters from Clamp's work appear such as Cardcaptor Sakura,XXXHolic, and Chobits.

School Rumble is amazing! XD It is a very funny anime, and is really random and fun to watch. There are 2 seasons I believe, and I am currently half-way through the first season.

I just finished watching Ouran High School Host Club and Trigun.

Ouran High School Host Club is AMAZING. It's one of those shows that tugs on my heart strings. The characters get really well developed and you can't help but love them all. The comedy is slapsticky but funny. It does have a lot of manservice, and is shojo, but I really enjoyed it and would recommend it if you're looking for something light.

Trigun is... really boring. I feel like I just wasted part of my life. I expected this to be a great show, it's so well reviewed, but it's just not interesting. There are only about 3 good episodes in the series and 23 episodes of filler. Even the plot important episodes felt like filler. I kept hoping something good would come along, and occasionally something was, which lured me in causing me to hope more, only for more boring episodes to follow. By the time I realized I hated the show it was too late and I had to get to the end. This is the first anime series I DIDN'T like, it is not my style and I would not recommend it.

Next on my agenda: Kino's Journey, Welcome to the NHK, and Durarara!!

Hello Again! Sorry for the bump, but I've been going through a few series recently that I want to recommend.

I just finished the anime "Kino's Journey", and it's amazing. It stars Kino and her talking motorrad Hermes as they journey through countries. It's way out there from your usual anime affair, it's a dark, subtle satire. It's got some great dramatic emotional moments that will leave you silent. It's only 13 episodes long and I highly recommend it for anyone who's looking for something a bit more serious.

I'm also reading through the "Soul Eater" manga. I've only gotten about 25 chapters in, but I have a good feel for it. Soul Eater is basically your typical shonen manga. It's over the top, it's fun, and it's got good fights and characters, but it's pretty much like other shonen I've seen. Granted, that's not a bad thing, as I do enjoy this type of shonen, and it's different enough to make itself original, but I don't think you need to rush out to see it. If you like shonen like me and you've got some free time, then it's a fairly fun read.

Next on my agenda: Welcome to the NHK, Toradora, and Durarara!!

I recently watched Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood and I loved it. It has such an interesting story and kept me hooked the whole way through. I'm glad they decided to make this, as manga only characters such as Lin Yao and Mei finally got a chance to appear on screen (:

Other series I would highly recommend are: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Tenchi Muyo!, Clannad and Arakawa Under the Bridge.

I'm going to start watching Darker than Black tonight, it looks awesome, I can't wait.

Hello again. More anime opinions.

First, I read a manga known as Bakuman, and it's pretty good. It's a manga about two guys trying to write a manga. The whole thing gets very meta. I liked it, the characters are good, the plot is interesting, and it toys with your emotions fairly well. It's also informative about the inner workings of Shonen Jump. I suggest this title to anyone who likes a good shonen manga.

I started watching Welcome to the NHK, but I quit after about three episodes. It isn't my taste. That does not mean that I do not recommend it. From the few episodes I saw I can tell that it's a good anime, very well made. Just because it does not suit me does not mean it might not suit you, I suggest you at least take a look at it.

I watched Toradora all the way through, and now I have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. It's not a bad anime, but its not all that great either. The characters are all right, there's some good episodes, but a lot of it is disappointing, and i really didn't like the last few episodes. I would not really recommend this title unless you really love the genre, and even then you don't need to rush to see it.

Next on my agenda: Paranoia Agent, Kaiba and Durarara!!

You guys HAVE to watch "Katekyo Hitman Reborn!" It's about this kid named Tsuna who gets terrible grades and sucks at sports when this toddler walks into his house saying he's the world's greatest Hitman and Tsuna is the Heir to the most Powerful Mafia Tribe, The Vongola and the kid is going to be his tutor. They go through a bunch of adventures and stuff and at first it's a gag anime but by the 20th episode it gets really serious and Actiony really fast.
