Default PotW 2: Lopunny *Easter*

April 6, 2012

Pokemon of the week #2 is Lopunny! HAPPY EASTER!~

Overview (From Smogon) :
At first glance, Lopunny seems as bland a Pokemon as her Normal typing suggests. Her stats, while by no means shabby, are not outstanding; her only saving grace is her excellent base 105 Speed. Dig a little deeper, though, and you'll find that there's more to this bunny. Her immense support movepool is a pleasant surprise: among the services she can provide to your team include Baton Passing both offensive and Speed boosts, a fast Encore, paralysis support, as well as cleric support. However, her best niche lies in her Klutz ability, which lets her handicap walls and sweepers alike with hindering items. While she is somewhat restricted in a defensive support role due to the lack of resistances from her Normal typing, she is unique and very effective in what she does.

Lead
Lopunny @ Flame Orb
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Klutz
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
-Fake Out
-Switcheroo
-Thunder Wave
-Sweet Kiss
Lopunny has so much potential- If it doesn't get Taunted.. In this set, you use Fake Out first. Next, Switcheroo to burn the opponent. Or, if you want to make your opponent pull his/her's hair out Thunder Wave it! Then Sweet kiss and hope for Hax

Sub-Punch!
Lopunny @ Liechi Berry
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Cute Charm
EVs: 252 Speed / 252 Attack / 4 HP
-Substitute
-Focus Punch
-Flail
-Baton Pass/Work Up

This set revolves around using Substitute in order to make Flail stronger and to get the Liechi berry attack boost. Once behind a substitute, you can use Focus Punch to deal with Steel and Rock types. The one drawback to this set is that you can’t do anything to Ghost types! However, this is what Baton Pass is for. When a Ghost type battles with this Lopunny, you can set up a substitute possibly gaining the attack boost from the berry and then pass the boost and sub onto a waiting Dark type. Work Up is a viable option if you want to set up while behind a substitute, but I think Baton Pass works better and it won’t leave you helpless against Ghost types.

Baton Pass
Lopunny @ Leftovers
Jolly (I think it is agreeable that that is best suiting)
Limber (Paralysis is a constant threat to baton passers)
EVs: 252 HP / 6 SpDef / 252 Spd
- Baton Pass
- Agility
- Jump Kick/Dizzy Punch
- Encore/Fake Out

DESCRIPTION:
If you use this Lopunny you should use it for long. In other words use one or 2 attacks the Baton Pass it. Because of its mediocre stats you should be very cautious. That is why you have Encore, because if your opponent used an attack like swagger (Or an attack that would do as much damage because you did an 'out-of-the-blue' switch) You can just make it use it again so you can build up with less of a threat. You have Jump Kick/Dizzy Punch because it is a decent move and it will help you when and if you really need to attack. So really this isn't to be used if you dont have another pokemon to protect it once you use baton pass.

Crippling Lead
Lopunny @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Klutz
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
- Switcheroo
- Thunder Wave
- Baton Pass
- Encore

This set focuses on crippling opposing leads as best as possible, as the nasty combination of Switcheroo and Thunder Wave makes any number of Pokemon useless. Encore is as useful as ever, as it can easily force switches should your foe get locked into a status move. The main allure of Baton Pass on this set comes from the fact that if your foe switches as well, you will be able to see what they send in before you have to switch at all, allowing you to easily bring in a suitable counter.
