I'm a little suspicious of the character roster from the leak. The characters are all lined up according to what game series they come from, like all the Mario characters (top row), Kid Icarus characters, and the Fire Emblem characters right next to them (row 3). And then in the middle of nowhere at the end of row 5, are Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina, just chilling out. Considering in Melee Dr. Mario was right next to Mario on the roster, I'm just a little skeptical of how this one is oriented. Unless that orientation is an inside joke with the devs that those 3 are the "clone" characters, of course.
Duck Hunt Dog: May be the most random character on the roster, but I can see why he's there. I'm sure a lot of 80's kids wanted to beat the crap out of that dog when they played Duck Hunt, so he's probably there as a joke character, kinda like Jiggles in the original. no Lucas makes me Last edited by ThePokeMan; August 29, 2014 at 12:53:34 AM. |

It appears like Nintendo has distributed some early access codes to those loyal Club Nintendo users who have acquired Platinum status last year. (I'm willing to bet that's a lot due to Wii U/3DS XL sales and because of the lack of physical rewards this year.) Sadly, there isn't a whole lot you can play with in the demo. Also, for some reason, when I closed the demo, my system crashed.
Anyway, I've attached a few images and a couple videos for those who did not get the demo. |

You needed to have Platinum status for the last year, have a registered 3DS, and be signed up to receive e-mail ads from Nintendo. I know this because I had to look up why I didn't get the demo in my inbox. It's really dumb that I needed to be opted in to e-mail ads to get in on this. Why would Nintendo assume that anyone would not want this kind of thing?

I've been playing a lot of Villager since I got the demo, and it could just be me, but to me, Villager just feels really good. Now, that's not saying he/she is good compared to other characters, but something feels so right. Villager as amazing edge-guarding game, and I have won multiple times due to limiting my opponents' recovery options via the slingshot, Lloid Rocket, bowling ball, the turnips (which can score meteor smashes if you land 3 turnips) and Villager's impressive recovery options. Now, his/her recovery is slow, which means that they don't necessarily increase his/her survivability, but they allow for all-out off-platform attacks.
Also, just throwing it out there, I'm noticing that, taking into consideration the fact that Villager's forward smash (bowling ball) is kinda slow with low range, when it does hit, it can KO at as little as 65%. Given the right time and situation, the bowling ball can really be deadly. |

I love terrorizing my friends with the Villager bowling ball, gyroid rocket, and the tree. He's also one of the best Megaman counters.
Also, did anyone else notice that Mario got a bit overpowered? Almost everything about him got an improvement. |

I've played the demo a bit now, and I've noticed the level 9 computers are different than Brawl's level 9s. They roll a lot more than Brawl's did, which I guess is trying to simulate higher-level play, but it just makes them frustrating to play against, since they just roll away from all your hits. On the bright side, three level 9s no longer all gang up on you like it's a team battle anymore.
Watching people stream the Japanese version of the game just makes me want it more at this point. I've actually figured out what characters I'm maining already, and I plan to be doing a lot of For Glory to get good at them.

Mario has improved vastly now, it's just a shame now since Dr. Mario is gonna be outclassing him once you unlock him since he follows similarly to his Melee moveset. (I suppose Mario will get his chance, another day) Personally, I'm split about wether I should even buy the game or not. I'm convinced because the handheld adaptation wasn't as bad as I originally thought it was going to be. On the other Master Hand tho, the game starts to lag like insane when you have 1v1v1v1 matches with other friends, especially when you're not playing on the Omega Form of a stage. (Can someone confirm if 2v2 is still in this version of Smash?) I'm leaning towards not buying the 3DS version, Smash Run isn't a seller for me. My other gripe is that I was always thinking about how the 3DS control scheme wasn't meant for Smash, and I was kinda correct. Smash never seemed like something that should be done on handheld. The shoulder L and R buttons just don't feel right for when you're trying to perform a grab attack. The game itself works alright, but if you're doing super competitive Smash matches, don't be surprised if your left analog stick breaks. (As it has for many others out when the game was brand new in JPN) |

I haven't been playing as a lot of players since I was entered in a tournament as Jigglypuff, so I had to get as good as possible with her before 2 PM. I did pretty good with her, even if I didn't win, beating a Rosalina and a ROB before losing to a Mega Man and a Bowser in the loser's bracket:
http://challonge.com/Hopefullylastattempt Now that the tournament is over, I should pick up more mains ;P It's the air control, so much air control. That and forcing people to use a laggy move and Resting them before they can move again >:D Last edited by ThePokeMan; October 4, 2014 at 01:06:56 PM. |

Regarding the game in general: Regarding the game, I didn't really think I'd like Smash Run as much as I do now. Turns out Smash Run is a really addicting and fun way to help unlock the custom special moves. Classic Mode is really, really fun. The final boss is top-notch, and, surprisingly, actually challenging on the upper difficulties. I've only managed to get through the entire thing at 8.0 difficulty as my true main, Luigi. I have not played All-Star mode yet. I will once I unlock all the characters. I have not unlocked all of the characters because I have been too busy mastering the controls of characters I wanted to play. As a result, I still have Lucina, Dr. Mario, R.O.B, and Mr. Game & Watch to unlock. Unlike in Brawl, where I generally disliked almost every track they put into Pokémon stages, the themes that play at Unova Pokémon League/N's Castle are really good. In general, I like the music choices. (Magicant!!!) Regarding my mains: Luigi is as air-combo oriented as usual. Meaning that my skills with Luigi transferred over into this game. Villager is evil in one-on-one matches. While I have trouble with other Robin players (who I must say is quite strong, if I may say so) Villager eats them up. My one gripe with Villager is that if his/her grab misses, there is all of the lag. Bowser Jr./the Koopalings apparently have an interesting damage mechanic that reduces damage when the Clown Car is hit, but increases damage when Bowser Jr./the Koopaling is hit itself. That makes for some interesting matchups. Yoshi just feels better this game. I don't really know why, though, I need to play as him more. [EDIT: Yoshi has done well for me in online. Did not see the potential he has. Upgraded to primary main] Toon Link is pretty much the same. I never was too good with Toon Link, though. Link is the same as Toon Link but heavier and with faster projectiles. I don't play much with Link either, though I'm hoping to learn. However, I do feel like Link's dash attack has been buffed. Regarding other characters: Zero Suit Samus, Robin, Bowser, and Duck Hunt are particularly difficult for me to handle with most characters. This game feels more balanced overall; more characters can be used without being totally outclassed. The Meta Knight syndrome is no more in this game. I live in fear of Little Mac's KO uppercut. Rosalina looks like she has a huge learning curve. I have had little trouble with other players using Rosalina, but at the same time there are tons of potential combos waiting to happen. I reserve my judgment on Rosalina for now. Sonic feels faster, for some reason. Which is kind of hard considering that Sonic was already really fast. Ganondorf still appears to be incredibly slow and vulnerable, but he's gotten really heavy and hard to launch. If there's a difference between Pit and Dark Pit, I haven't noticed it yet. Olimar's Pikmin seem easier to kill, but that might just be me. Shulk's range is incredible. Marth seems pretty nerfed in this iteration. I'll add more observations once I get around to playing more, but so far I am loving this game. Last edited by GrassPokemonFTW; October 4, 2014 at 07:33:52 PM. |

So I started playing Ness, (after having recently played Earthbound) and.....he finally does not suck after being crap through 64 - Brawl. He's looking to be my main if I can learn how to use his PK Tether correctly. PK Fire is drastically better, allowing him to be the camping projectile character he should've been. |

The first 3 mains I've tried to pick up for online tournaments so far are Jigglypuff, Dark Pit, and Bowser Jr. If you've experimented with any of the characters yet, you know what the main problem with these guys are: they don't have any reliable kill moves, and what ones they do have leave you wide open for punishment if they miss (BJ's side smash, Jigglypuff's Rest). So yeah, my main problem has been learning to rack up enough damage and trying to learn how to bait people into running into my kill moves.

Yoshi has actually been working really well so far. A lot of his moves have, at the cost of doing a little less damage, a lot more combo potential. His dash attack is surprisingly good at starting up combos, and I've blasted many an opponent with dash + up air, or, at lower percentages, dash + up smash + down air + side smash. Still, I seem to have problems against opponents with fast ranged attacks, like Robin, Lucario, and Samus, and to a lesser extent Fox, Falco and Rosalina. One thing I do have to gripe about Yoshi is that he's so focused on combos that you don't want the opponent to take too much damage without getting KO'd, otherwise Yoshi no longer is able to get the combos to work because of increased knockback. This is extremely accentuated against Lucario, who ends up being one of Yoshi's biggest counters. As for Mr. Game & Watch, he doesn't appear much different than in Brawl. His down tilt is weaker, which is unfortunate, since it was one of his better combo starters back in Brawl. But his dash attack has somewhat filled that role. |

A new Nintendo Direct came out this afternoon titled Smash Bros for Wii U - 50 Fact Extravaganza.
Luckily it was mostly confirming stuff we already knew or returning features from Brawl, so nothing major spoilery here. Highlights:

Well, the rubber on my Circle Pad fell off while I was playing a Link on For Glory. A little bit of super glue fixed it, but I'm nowhere near the only one this has happened to. There are even some other people reporting cases of their entire Circle Pad coming off, leaving a nub where it was.
For once, it seems Nintendo hasn't thought of everything when designing their system, since on-and-off use for about 3 years forced the cover off of the pad, and the possibility still looms of the entire unit shearing itself off. |

After many good games of service, my Circle Pad has fallen off as well while playing For Glory on SSB3DS. I don't mind playing with the nub, so I'm perfectly fine without the Circle Pad. Although it's kind of sad that only a few months of using it has caused the padding to come off. Meh.
For those curious, I'm currently averaging about a 75% win rate with Yoshi right now. I'm still trying to get the hang of Luigi, though I'm slowly getting better. (Down throw into up-B is evil...if it works.) |

It just wasn't designed for the wear it receives from the quick, jerky movements Smash forces you to make. Casual games like Pokémon are perfect for it, but not action games, and I don't think Nintendo saw this one coming.

This is a bit wild. Apparently, they're bringing Cloud from Final Fantasy VII into SSB4. It almost sounds like an April Fools' Day joke with how out-of-left-field this is. Certainly a welcome character, though.

I think Bayonetta and Corrin are both going to be very powerful characters. It is odd to think that Bayonetta won the ballot considering the fact that Bayonetta 2 did not sale that well for the Wii U. All of the third party rep have been male characters, and Bayonetta honestly made the most sense for being a new female third party rep. I think Smash is going to be the first non M-Rated game that Bayonetta appear in, and that honestly why a lot of people thought she would not be added to the game. I been recently playing through Fire Emblem Awakening and I am planning on buying Fire Emblem Fates when it is released in the US. It just seems odd to add a sixth Fire Emblem rep, considering the franchise almost died prior to Awakening and it was not even localized until Smash bought the series into popularity worldwide. Honestly, if they wanted to hype a new game then they should of added the Inkling from Splatoon as an E3 2015 revealed. (I know the Inkling is a Mii Costume, but they should of been playable.) It would of help Splatoon sell even more copies. (Splatoon is doing extremely well for a Wii U game, but having the Inkling in Smash would of helped the game so much.) I have nothing against either of these characters being added to the game and they both look like they are going to sell very well.

So first, I'm going to say that this was my favorite Smash reveal, and it's still really sad that this has to be the last.
So Corrin. I'm not much of a Fire Emblem fan, but they seem to be the MOST unique character from that franchise. Another counter-using FE swordfighter, yes, but THEY TRANSFORM INTO A DRAGON. That's enough. That's all you really need. Boom. Enjoy it, you're gonna love it. Now. Get hype for Bayonetta. I can't say how happy I am when I learned about her being the ballot winner. I've been pushing for her since Smash Bros. 4 development was started. And oh my goodness, just look at her FANTASTIC newcomer art!
Mad Props to Eiji Funahashi
Believe it or not, this won't be the first non M-rated game Bayonetta is in (she appears in the Wonderful 101) and it's not Smash's first M-rated character either (that title belongs to Hideo Kojima's Solid Snake.) I mean, yeah, she's "sexy" but the game itself just has mature content floating all around it. Bayonetta herself only really has some of her clothing disappear when using hair magic, and they've already addressed that. I think if Zero Suit Samus can be the way she is, Bayonetta is fine. Now when that final video started up I can remember clearly how initially disappointed I was that the camera was focusing on Pit. I tried to get my hopes down, and I was thinking Viridi or Medusa. Then I hear this strange female voice, and I'm thinking definitely Medusa maybe? FORGET ALL THAT, IN SWOOPS BAYONETTA AND I MUST SCREAM. Another fighter joins the ranks of Smash's killer female army, and she's got snark to match Palutena~ I honestly couldn't have been happier, I was just melting and I can't wait for February. At first I was surprised that it came out to be Bayonetta, but then I realized that it makes perfect sense. She would be the most popular amongst Nintendo fans in all three regions. Bayonetta 2 was released around the time development for Smash 4 started, and I know that's when I first started clamoring for her, so it must've continued all through to the Smash Ballot. Other characters people would think to beat out Bayonetta aren't popular in more than one region (Many Japanese gamers don't know what a "Shovel Knight" is) or they're just not modern and aren't as popular anymore. The only thing I don't understand is how Inkling didn't win. That's the only character I could see easily beating out Bayonetta considering it's extremely popular in both the US and Japan, and maybe Europe? I don't know. Whatever the case, I'm really glad I could ride this hype train to the end. How in the hell can this Smash Bros. be topped? We'll just have to wait and see... |

Yeah, I had a similar reaction when I saw the Bayonetta trailer. I was first thinking Viridi, and then I was thinking Hades. After I heard the female voice, I was a bit confused and the voice sounds familiar but I could not piece who it belonged to. After that I saw Bayonetta and I was shocked that she was added to the game. |
