Completely random, considering it failed. If the woman had not have moved when she was in the grass (she usually doesn't), I would have been in a situation where I was ON TOP OF Prof. Oak's Lab. The girl prevents the initial horizontal movement of the player when following Oak. This causes following Oak off-center, thus the player misses the door and becomes stuck next to it.
