Default Ash's Pikachu

Well, this has been discussed a lot, but I want to know what everyone here thinks. So...

Do you think that Ash's Pikachu is a male or female, Boy or Girl, etc...?

This is what I think...

It is a boy. You can tell because the Pokemon are usually male or female depending on the trainer, unless its a specific gender Pokemon like Happiny.

The one exception is the Aipom/Buizel thing, but seeing as they get traded to the others team, I don't believe that counts.

I also don't believe that Ash would call a female Pokemon, "Buddy."

And to top it off, in Pokemon: Lucario and the mystery of Mew, it was put in a jester costume, which means it was more than likely a male

Then there is when Dawn/May are in contests. Buneary gets in a cheerleading outfit and Pikachu is in a robe that looks like one Ash wears occasionally, which is worn usually by men in japan. You can tell its not a female robe because the female ones are thinner from head to toe.

And yes, Pikachu has dressed up in female clothing [was either forced by May or Misty or Dawn because they thought it was cute], but not more than HE has in male clothing. Not to mention, Ash and Pikachu both wore a matching female outfit in an episode.

I think a female Pokémon used Attract on it successfully in one of the episodes, so that makes it male. I'm not sure if the writers are consistent on its gender, though.

Yeah, a female Pokémon did use Attract on Pikachu successfully which would make it male.

If the writers aren't consistent on its gender, then this question could go unanswered for a long time which could annoy many who are dying to know the actual answer. That would definitely be problematic.

not necessarily....Ash's Chikorita/Bayleef is a female (it had a slight crush on Ash, just like Aipom)

Ash's Pikachu is a male; Dawn's Buneary, who has a crush on Pikachu, is a female.

...Didn't DPP's gender-specific sprites put this to rest? A female Pikachu would have a V-shaped indent on their tail. Male Pikachu lack this indent. Therefore, Ash's Pikachu's a dude.

As stated many times over by bulbapedia, Pikachu was introduced into the anime before gender specific pokemon, and cannot be determined in this way.

There haven't been any female Pikachus in the anime, though.

While that doesn't disprove it, it doesn't prove anything either.

Its clearly male because it fell in love with a togepi in one episode (unaired now) nearly everyone has there gender confirmed.

Here are the genders I believe for everyone
[spoiler:zjs5u3bw]Pikachu Male
Grotle Male (It's been referred to as he)
Staraptor Male (Gender Differences)
Buizel Male (Seems like based on his personality)
Monferno Male (It's also been referred to as he)
Gliscor Male (Gender differences)

Piplup Male (It'd mean that Pikachu is female because it fell in love with the same pokemon)
Buneary Female
Pachiresu Male (Gender Differences)
Mamoswine Female (Gender Difference)

Sudowodo Male (It's been referred to as a he)
Crogunk Male (Brock once wanted it to marry a Crogunk with a bow on it's head)
Happiny Female (It can only be female)[/spoiler:zjs5u3bw]

Well in the first season I was convinced it was a girl, but now they have seemed to have changed it to boy.

Pikachus gender has always been unknown until DP. I know another person that keeps saying there trying to change the gender of pikachu, but the writers intended to keep Pikachu's gender ambiguous so the fanbase can connect with him more easily. However it has been confirmed to be male since DP. He also doesn't have that dent in his tail like female pikachus have, and has fallen in love via the move "attract" several times before in the anime to a female pokemon before DP.
