Default Minecraft: Story Mode

So apparently we're going to be getting a plot-driven version of the amazing block-ish game some time next year.

Telltale news post

By the sound of it, it's going to be an independent, alternate version of Minecraft. I really hope those of us who have already bought the game don't have to do so a second time, at least not at full price.

Discuss.

I'd rather see a story mode added to the actual game as another mode (like Survival and Creative). This almost assuredly will be its own product and will cost episodically (paying for each episode). I had a feeling they were going to branch out into secondary Minecraft games, but I hope most of all that these secondary games do not eclipse the primary title.

Given the statistics-breaking success of Minecraft I doubt anything Microsoft can ever do will make Story Mode, or anything else, eclipse the main game.

But, yeah. This is what I was fearing would happen in the back of my head when I first heard Microsoft bought the thing, and they'll probably notice sooner or later that Minecraft can farm money like cobblestone. Commercialism at its finest.

Another thing, if they do sell each episode alone, I hope they also sell the whole thing as a single package. And they better keep silly DRM off of it or put it on GOG (like some of their classics).

This game is not Minecraft, it isn't going to be anything like Minecraft, it's just going to be sharing the same theme. (So expect to pay full price)

I'll use Borderlands as an example here, I've never really been the biggest fan of the series, I've played through the story of 1 and 2 a few times, was fun yes, but, I can't even be bothered buying the pre-sequal because I don't think it'll be that great, but when telltale managed to grab that world and now turn it into one of my favorite games of all time with just the first episode, I think they've done a pretty damn good job, it was money well spent.

So, pretty much, people are setting their expectations for the game to be a little too much like the original....just....please don't lmao.

oh, by the way Cat, I'll doubt they'll sell the episodes individually.
