Default PotW 1: Flareon

March 31st, 2012

Pokemon of the week #1 is Flareon!

Overview (From Smogon) :
Flareon is truly overdue some new toys to play with. Since RBY, the rest of the Eeveelutions have had their own roles to play (and dominate), whilst Flareon has been hindered by a few details. Flareon's low Speed is a major weakness, but it is also hindered by low Defense, and strange stat distribution in general. It suffers from a lack of good physical STAB attacks to take advantage of its relatively high Attack stat, and later generations only brought Flareon more trouble; the introduction of Stealth Rock made being a Fire-type unfavorable. What Flareon does have to work with, however, is Wish access, and a workable Special Defense stat that make it ideal for supporting its teammates.

Rules:
You can post as many movesets as you want. Just try to fit them into one post.
All movesets must be original. Meaning they must not be sets that are taken off a website.
Constructive Criticism is good, just no flaming or trolling.
Please try to be serious about the set and provide as much information as possible on how it works.

Guts
Flareon @ Toxic Orb
Adamant/Jolly
Guts
EVs: 252 Atk/4 SP.D/252 Spd
- Protect
- Facade
- Flame Charge
- Wish
This set utilizes Flareon's DW ability- Guts. The main idea of this set is to activate Poison status on the first turn without taking damage. Use protect, Toxic Orb Activates. Now, we have a boosted physical stat that brings Flareon's already great attack to an even greater potential. With status, Facade gains an unbelievably high power! Due to lack of speed, I gave Flareon access to Flame Charge. This way, we can boost his speed with a STAB move to add on to that. Wish is there as a recovery move that you can easily protect to activate.

Ticklish
Flareon @ Shuca Berry
Jolly
Flash Fire
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Speed
-Tickle
-Fire Fang/Flame Charge
-Body Slam/Flame Charge
-Wish

This set is designed to help Flareon in two ways. 1: Lowering opponents defense to leave them vulnerable to Flareon's nice attack stat. 2: Lowering opponents attack stat to keep Flareon from being taken down in one physical move. You start off by getting a Tickle on the foe to weaken them. From there, you can either continue to weaken them, go for a Body Slam and hope you paralyze the foe, or use Flame Charge to turn yourself into a sweeper. When your HP starts to get a little low, use Wish and live through a turn (just make sure not to wait until it's too late). The Fire Fang is useful for the burn effect and the flinch effect (and there isn't much of a substitute). On this set, it's recommended that Body Slam is on there somewhere so Flash Fire Pokemon don't get switched in and make it impossible for Flareon to attack. The Shuca Berry is essential to protect Flareon from Earthquake if an Earthquake user is present (because physical is more dangerous to Flareon than Special). With Flash Fire as the ability, you could use a Pokemon very weak to Fire (such as Ferrothorn) and use it as bait. When you think the opponent is going to use a fire move, switch into Flareon and watch the opponent be dumbstruck that you aren't using Heatran.

Derp since when was Flareon able to learn Flare Blitz?

Curses
Flareon @ Leftovers
Relaxed
4HP/252Att/252Def
Flash Fire

Curse
Wish
Fire Fang/Body Slam
Will O Wisp/Toxic

This is a basic set to mimic Umbreon as a defensive wall. Flareon with Flash Fire is good for switching out during an upcoming fire attack. Curse and Wish are good for just being a recovering wall. Fire Fang is a good stab move for Flareon while Body Slam has a higher
attack power. Will-O-Wisp or Toxic is also good for stalling.

Firefox
Flareon @ N/A
Timid
Guts
252 SP ATK/252 SPD/4 DEF

Lava Plume
Covet
Facade
Fake Tears

This Flareon is much less of a tank in any regard, and much more of a nuisance to deal with. Guts was chosen over Flash Fire because Guts is much better for Singles. While it lacks any item to benefit with, Flareon can steal one with the use of Covet. Just about any item will work well with Flareon, and even if it doesn't the opponent is still hindered without one. Other than that, Facade can be paired with Guts to create a true sweeper. Lava Plume is the ace in the hole for this Flareon. While Flamethrower has more power (95 to 80), Lava Plume has a 30% chance to burn, which can cripple opponents relying on physical firepower. It can also be strengthened with Fake Tears to become a powerhouse. Overall, if this Flareon is given a chance to set up (as it is fairly quick), it can be an oddball straight out of left field to any opponents you happen to face.
